What you can do to fight for progress this week (March 15)

Last week, a fellow member of Congress called on the House Ethics Committee to open an investigation into Rep. Lauren Boebert’s role in inciting the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. In her letter to the chair and ranking member of the committee, Rep. Pramila Jayapal says Rep. Boebert “endangered fellow Members’ lives and pursued a disinformation campaign related to the election results that resulted in an armed uprising.” [1]

It’s time for everyone in Colorado to say it loud: Lauren Boebert does not speak for us. Boebert’s incitement of her far-right supporters to violence in Washington in the weeks leading up to January 6th disqualifies her from representing our state in Congress. Over 17,000 have signed our petition calling on Reps. Lauren Boebert and Doug Lamborn to resign.

Action item #1 this week: call members of the House Ethics Committee and respectfully urge them to investigate Lauren Boebert.

In addition to Boebert’s actions surrounding the January 6th insurrection, Boebert faces questions on a variety of ethical issues including her mileage reimbursements from campaign funds, failure to file required personal financial disclosures (punishable by jail time), and proxy voting in Congress under knowingly false pretenses.Thanks for taking a few minutes to make these important phone calls to lawmakers on the Ethics Committee to hold Lauren Boebert accountable.

One Colorado Annual LGBTQ Lobby Day

While we may be unable to physically visit the Capitol like we normally would for Lobby Day, join us and learn how to remotely access the State Legislature to listen to hearings, submit testimony, follow the status of a bill, and more!

Conservation Colorado: Activist Workshop Training 3

Will you virtually join us on Wednesday, March 17th at 6:00pm MT for our third Community Activist Training? We have the power to encourage our elected officials to commit to climate action in 2021. To do this, we are asking everyone who cares about this issue to join us for the Commit to Climate Action campaign. We are continuing with the Community Activist Training Series that will be a critical aspect of keeping our grassroots momentum rolling for 2021.

9to5 Colorado: Keep Coloradans Housed Town Hall – Colorado Springs

This is a virtual, grassroots town hall to learn about one of our priority bills SB21-173: Rights in Residential Lease Agreements. This bill would: limit late fees on unpaid rent; give Colorado renters more time to come up with their rent and avoid eviction; prohibit tenant evictions solely for owning late fees; and establish a financial penalty for landlords who illegally lock out tenants. Coloradans need transparency and fairness when it comes to being charged late fees so they can plan accordingly. Right now, corporations are charging unreasonable late fees because there is no set limit to the amount they can charge. Even if families and individuals are up to date on rent, they can still be evicted for failing to pay late fees.

70% of Coloradans support the state creating a Prescription Drug Affordability Board, which means Big Pharma is spending BIG on lobbyists at the Capitol. Don’t let them overpower the voice of the people! Join us on March 22 for a safe, socially-distanced rally to support lower prescription drug costs. We will have pill bottle signs available for the first 30 people who sign up, where you can write your story or the message you’d like to send about why the legislature needs to take action lower prescription drug costs.

Legislative Advocacy Training: Making Sure Our Representatives Work for Us

We all came to the polls last November, but our role with our representatives can’t end there if we want to hold them accountable to stand up for issues we care about. Please join CIRC (Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition), Former Representative Joe Salazar, and the Arapahoe Young Democrats as we explore tactics and best practices to making sure our representatives make decisions on behalf of the people and not big money.
