Udall formally endorses Bennet for Senate

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

In perhaps the least unexpected announcement of the year, Sen. Mark Udall endorsed Sen. Michael Bennet’s 2010 candidacy. Here’s the text of the announcement.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 20, 2009

UDALL ENDORSES BENNET FOR SENATE IN 2010

Denver, CO — U.S. Senator Mark Udall issued the following statement through his campaign committee:

“Today, I am announcing my support for the election of my colleague, Michael Bennet, to the United States Senate in 2010. This may come as no or little surprise to those who have watched us working together over the past few months, but I wanted to make clear to my fellow Coloradans how much I have appreciated our partnership.

“I believe Colorado’s interests are best advanced in Washington when our two Senators work closely together. Unfortunately, that hasn’t always been the case, but in the very challenging times our country is facing, it can really make a difference when a state’s Senators aren’t cancelling each other’s voice, working at cross purposes or elbowing each other in the political game. It makes a difference when the two Senators are in harness together, and that’s how I feel about my friend, Michael Bennet.

“It’s been a real pleasure working with Michael to represent Colorado in the U.S. Senate. In only a matter of months, he’s making his mark. He has impressed colleagues from both parties for the depth of his intellect, his capacity for hard work and a reputation for effective leadership. He’s done so by choosing to look past the partisan fray and focus his energy and talent on the issues that affect Colorado’s working families in their daily lives.

“He has been able to achieve so much already – on job creation, on affordable health care for kids, on protecting Colorado’s land and water – because he understands that the most effective way to get things done in Washington is to reach across the aisle and find common ground. And he recognizes, as I do, that making health care affordable for all Americans, crafting a responsible energy policy, and getting America’s economy back on track must be our top priorities in Congress.

“Washington is a place in need of new thinking and new ideas. Simply put, Michael is the right guy for the right time. That’s why I support Michael Bennet’s candidacy in 2010, and will help any way I can to make sure he is elected and able serve the people of Colorado in the Senate for another six years.”
