(Freaks flock together — Promoted by Colorado Pols)

Later this month Energy Secretary Chris Wright will return home to Colorado to headline a far-right festival hosted by one election denier and featuring several others, including a QAnon promoter. The Trump cabinet member will be the final speaker at the Rocky Mountain Voice’s Freedom Fest, a two-day festival of conservative speakers that will take place at the Douglas County Fairgrounds later this month, according to the festival’s website.
This is the first multi-day event for Rocky Mountain Voice, which Heidi Ganahl founded in 2024 to help Colorado Republicans win elections. As CTR previously reported, the list of speakers features a variety of extremists and conspiracists, with election denialism being the most popular flavor. Speakers include Lara Logan, the discredited CBS reporter who moved to Newsmax, which then fired her for an on-air antisemitic QAnon-inspired rant in which she claimed that the world’s elites “dine on the blood of children.” Joining Logan in the Friday lineup is Seth Keshel, an election denier who has turned conspiracy promotion into a full-time speaking career.
Lee Habeeb, vice president of content at Salem Media Group, oversaw numerous shows on his network that promoted false claims about Dominion Voting Systems rigging the 2020 election. Salem Media apologized and issued a retraction last year. Lesser-known election deniers Mark Cook and Jennica Pounds are also appearing at the festival.
Wright has embraced right-wing politics and championed far-right positions for years prior to his appointment to the Trump administration, but he’s previously focused largely on climate change denialism. Speaking to the Colorado Chamber of Commerce in 2019, Wright dismissed the scientific consensus on global warming by comparing climate change to eugenics and the Holocaust.
Last year Secretary Wright convened a handpicked group of climate denying scientists to meet in secret to issue an official report that became the basis for rolling back federal climate pollution regulations. Environmental groups sued, and in January a Reagan-appointed judge ruled that he had violated the law.
Two Colorado district attorneys will also speak at the event. El Paso County District Attorney Michael Allen, who is also running for attorney general, and George Brauchler, DA for Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln Counties are up Friday evening as part of the Back the Blue event.
Neither of the DAs will headline, however, as the top slot is reserved for convicted murderer and former reality TV star Duane Chapman, aka Dog the Bounty Hunter. The Saturday schedule also features a “Candidate Meet & Greet” from 5-7 P.M., but does not list any names. The weekend also features unnamed workshop sessions, country music, a rodeo and a drone show.
The Department of Energy press office did not respond to an email inquiry as to whether Secretary Wright knew with whom he will be sharing a stage, and if not, whether he will still appear.
A voicemail left on the Freedom Fest media line asking whether Wright is aware of the other speakers and whether he is receiving any speaking fee was likewise not returned. This article will be updated with any responses received.
