Colorado Springs Republican Rep. Scott “Rock” Bottoms is finishing out what will be his last legislative session, which should shave literally hours off of the time lawmakers spend on the House Floor waiting for his inane speechifying to conclude. Bottoms won’t be back at the State Capitol next year because he is pursuing a no-hope bid for Governor instead of seeking re-election; and because he has been unable to raise money for his gubernatorial campaign, he’s trying to squeeze every bit of messaging he can out of his time at the legislature.
Even if he actually opposed the very thing he is ranting about.

Bottoms is pretending here to be very concerned about affordable housing in Colorado, blasting fellow lawmakers for not passing two particular pieces of related legislation. What Bottoms fails to mention is that he himself did nothing to help this particular cause. Let’s take a look at Bottoms’s record on the two bills he is complaining about above…
♦ HB26-1114 (Allowed Minimum Lot Size for Subject Jurisdictions) passed out of the House but was eventually killed in the Senate. When the final vote was taken in the House on February 25, Bottoms wasn’t even there; he’s marked as “Excused” on the roll call.
♦ HB26-1308 (Lot Splitting Approval by Subject Jurisdictions) also passed out of the House before being killed in the Senate, with no thanks to Bottoms. When the bill had its final vote in the House on March 24, Bottoms actually voted ‘NO.’
Whether he is making baseless claims about uncovering “pedophile rings” at the State Capitol or pretending to support affordable housing initiatives that he literally voted against, Scott Bottoms continually demonstrates that he only cares about the theatrical part of politics.
In that way, Bottoms is no different than every other Colorado Republican. They are simply not serious people interested in doing serious things.
