At Least He's Not Your Candidate For Governor, Doesn't Tina Peters Just Wish Edition

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols
Former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters with “MyPillow Guy” Mike Lindell.

As the Minnesota Star Tribune’s Ryan Faircloth reports, a name well-known in Colorado politics after his years of involvement in the Tina Peters election fraud felony fiasco and close association with various fringe-right locals–also apparently notorious for not paying back money he’s borrowed from fellow Colorado election conspiracy theorists–is set to shake up the race for governor in Minnesota:

The Mike Lindell for Governor committee was registered with the state’s Campaign Finance Board on Wednesday. In an interview Wednesday morning, Lindell told the Minnesota Star Tribune that his run for governor “isn’t 100% yet,” but he intends to announce his decision at a news conference next week.

“I am going to announce either way on Dec. 11,” Lindell said.

Lindell’s possible entrance into the race would shake up what’s become a crowded field of Republicans who are seeking to challenge DFL Gov. Tim Walz. His close proximity to President Donald Trump and prominence in the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement could make him a top contender for the GOP nomination, despite concerns about his electability and promotion of debunked election fraud theories.

Lindell told the Star Tribune in October that he had polled hypothetical matchups against Walz and other Republicans running for governor.
“If there was someone to win, it would be me,” Lindell said of the GOP field.

After flushing untold amounts of “MyPillow” profits down the drain in support of Tina Peters’ legal defense, Mike Lindell’s welcome has reportedly worn thin locally, with “America’s Hangman” Joe Oltmann now suing Lindell for some $3 million that Oltmann was dumb enough to loan to a guy whose second claim to fame after selling overpriced pillows is skipping out on his financial obligations. Running for governor is a cheap way to keep Lindell in the self-promoting spotlight, though, which is good for all of his various hustles. We can all agree it’s preferable to selling pillows for the special price of $14.88.

There’s little danger of Lindell actually becoming governor of Minnesota, but his name recognition and enduring popularity with a certain segment of gullible voters could be enough to put him over the top in a Republican primary. That’s the limit of Lindell’s visible horizon, except for the chance to sell a few extra pillows.

As for Tina Peters? Unfortunately, her would-be savior is running for governor in the wrong state.
