Democrats Uncontroversially Elect Normal Human Chairman

In a contrast so telling it really does speak for itself, Colorado Public Radio’s Andrew Kenney reports on the election yesterday of veteran local political strategist Shad Murib to succeed outgoing chair Morgan Carroll as the head of the Colorado Democratic Party:

A longtime political professional, the 35-year-old is a native of Littleton and a first-generation American of Lebanese descent.

Murib said his job will be to protect and expand the state’s Democratic majorities in the statehouse and Congress, including defeating Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert. But he also promised a focus on rural and local politics, saying the “next frontier” was to win more elections for sheriff and county commissioner offices…

Saturday marked the end of a successful run for former chair Morgan Carroll, who oversaw the party’s dramatic political gains in recent years.

Many in the room seemed relieved by the sedate transfer of power. [Pols emphasis] A similar leadership election in Nevada turned into a Democratic power struggle. Meanwhile, Colorado Republicans dove deeper into debunked election conspiracy theories in their own recent leadership election.

Colorado Democratic Party chairman Shad Murib.

With Democrats at the pinnacle of historic dominance of Colorado politics, Murib’s biggest challenge will be to hold on to the huge gains made by the party in the last two election cycles. Seats in the General Assembly narrowly picked up by Democrats last year will need to be defended in 2024, in addition to holding Rep. Yadira Caraveo’s swing CD-8 seat and the now-central objective of taking down vulnerable Rep. Lauren Boebert.

Fortunately for Democrats, this important job has gone to a professional and not a gaggle of unqualified crackpots. In the Colorado Democratic Party, winning elections is the ticket to upward career mobility, not losing them–as appears to be the opposite for Colorado Republicans, who chose 2022 primary election losers Dave Williams and by proxy Tina Peters to lead them. We’re going to go out on a limb and suggest that Murib probably doesn’t have an indicted felon to thank for his job.

We could go on and on, but again–the overwhelming qualitative contrast speaks for itself.

Colorado Democrats elected professionals to lead their party, and Colorado Republicans chose a clown show.
