Oh, The "Misogyny!"

As the Craig Daily Press reports:

Jean White and Randy Baumgardner have their sights set on the Senate District 8 seat.

White, the Hayden Republican who was appointed to the state Senate seat a year ago to fill the vacancy left by her husband’s resignation, announced early Wednesday that she will seek election to a full term in November 2012. Just a few hours later, Baumgardner, a Hot Sulphur Springs Republican who is the state representative for House District 57, publicly announced his intention to run for the same Senate seat.

“I’m disappointed that he chose to run against me, especially after he gave me his word that he wouldn’t,” White said, recalling a conversation she said she had with Baumgardner a couple of weeks ago. “He looked me in the eye and told me he wasn’t going to run a primary against me.”

Well, looks can be deceiving, folks. Rep. Randy Baumgardner should get plenty of support from the conservative wing of the Republican Party in a bid to unseat the moderate Sen. Jean White, but we’d by no means call this a safe bet for him–despite the lingering hurt feelings among the “Tea Party” over Sen. White’s appointment to her husband’s former seat.

But we couldn’t help but take note of yet another case of a male Republican looking to rub out a female fellow Republican in a primary, after the caterwauling from that side of the aisle about the “misogynist” reapportionment maps favored by Democrats recently upheld by the Colorado Supreme Court. Much like the Dave Schultheis-backed retired general who wants to end both Rep. Marsha Looper and Majority Leader Amy Stephens’ legislative careers, or Ken Buck’s 2010 U.S. Senate primary victory over Jane Norton (“because I don’t wear high heels“)…the facts make any GOP sob story about “Democrat misogyny” hard to retell with a straight face.
