Since 2004, interested parties have relied on Colorado Pols for news and insight on Colorado politics and policy matters. Proposition 103 is an education funding initiative on the statewide ballot this November. If passed, Proposition 103 would restore the income and sales tax rates that were in effect in 1999 in Colorado: increasing from 4.63% to 5%, and 2.9% to 3% respectively for five years.

But that’s not all!

The horror.

If Proposition 103 passes, the “crushing burden” of about $2.50 a week in combined higher sales and income taxes per median Colorado family will force the Denver Broncos to leave the Mile High City for a more favorable locale. One of the nation’s biggest media markets, Los Angeles, currently has an opening for an NFL franchise, and the specter of the additional cost of a cup of Starbucks’ coffee for this state’s greedy and avaricious children will be the tipping point for an organization already plagued by lackluster and severely overhyped quarterbacking. Homes along the Front Range painted orange and blue will fall into foreclosure. Oakland Raiders fans, suddenly liberated from their years of secret, forbidden love, will flood the streets of Denver, displaying their usual bad manners and declaring final victory in their long rivalry against Broncos fans…and all because Proposition 103 passed.

What’s that? California’s taxes will still be far higher than Colorado after Proposition 103 passes?
