CSU board meets Tuesday on chancellor, president

( – promoted by Colorado Pols) The CSU Board of Governors just posted an agenda for a special meeting Tuesday to consider appointing a chancellor and president. The naming of Tony Frank, the current interim president, to the permanent position on the Fort Collins campus, likely won’t generate much controversy. He has a lot of […]

Opportunities for Economic Growth in Colorado

. Months ago, chatter about Yucca Mountain and long-term storage of high-level nuclear wastes was getting pretty silly, with some people assuming that storage at Yucca Mountain posed a danger to human life (not demonstrably true,) and me replying that I’d love to have the $10 Billion investment and 4,000 jobs here in Colorado (the […]

Michael Riley Delivers: Udall Credit Card Reform Story

We did not want the day to end without an acknowledgment of Denver Post reporter Michael Riley’s superb (if belated) story on Sen. Mark Udall’s credit card reform efforts. With the bill now on its way to President Obama’s desk, Udall might finally start to see those long years of thankless effort pay off in […]

SD 31 Vacancy Election Redux

( – promoted by Colorado Pols) There are nine people running for the vacancy in Colorado Senate District 31 (replacing Jennifer Veiga) at the Democracy Party vacancy committee meeting at Morey Middle School in Denver this evening starting at six and probably lasting until ten, if all three rounds of voting are necessary for one […]

Ritter Vetoes (Another) Labor Union Bill

Just announced today from the Governor’s office: I am filing with the Secretary of State House Bill 09-1170, “Concerning unemployment insurance benefits for locked-out employees.”  I vetoed this bill as of 4:55 p.m. today, and this letter sets forth my reasons for doing so. There are currently ongoing contract negotiations between the United Food and […]

Big Line Updated

We’ve updated The Big Line, and here’s a quick rundown of how we see things shaping up at this point… GOVERNOR Make no mistake – this is still Gov. Bill Ritter’s race to lose. But that doesn’t mean he won’t lose it, because his base isn’t exactly energized to help him in 2010. Ritter’s biggest […]

The Performance Difference between the Public & Private Sector

The conventional wisdom is that the private sector is much more efficient than the public sector. Everyone has horror stories of public sector employees that don’t work, that do as little as possible, etc. (Of course, we all see this in the private sphere too.) And this is true that there is more of this […]

JeffCo Human Services caught in lies?

Would you believe anything out of the mouth of a Jefferson County Department of Human services? Jeffco pols in very clear that there is no mud slinging unless you have the stuff to back it up. Well its been compiled over a long time. We just now can show actual documents.

These are at www.Marchforthefamily.com

You will be shocked.

It makes you wonder, what makes leadership or those in positions of trust, get to that point that lying is the way the county does business. We have spent years trying to help the department come clean about many things.

Often the local government is given the benefit of the doubt. We all have been conditoned to think good and the best about the local government especially Social services. I mean think about it. The very name gives the illusion servants of society.

This often is far from it. They should be helping those that need it,backing off those who don’t and be about the work of the people.

What happens is this becomes stepping stones for either personal recognition, insecurity, busy work or funding.

Is there any consequence? When a person stands up for their rights sometimes they are punished. The county can make  then very aware, “it’s OUR way no matter what you think or believe”.

How does this change?

Does this not reflect on the people of Jefferson County!

Is this not done in their name?

Rights have been violated, Laws not being made known, signatures FORGED and things fraudulently being presented as truth. What are the people going to do?

Elected officials are made aware? Nothing changes.

The truth is now being put out there and its been a long time coming.

So much money is spent on personal vendetta’s and peope trusting in the way they have designed well manipulated the system.

Its a good way to create busy work and appear to really about the people.

You will see exactly what has been going on.

There is NO room for “he said she said” The evidence is in black and white, even in color.

Would you believe anything that comes out of Jefferson County Department of Human Services mouth?

We learned a long time ago not to.

All this is done in the name of the people of Jefferson County or people in the state of colorado

Republicans, Oil Industry Messing With Salazar

As the Denver Post reports, it was good to be a Senator, but: Senate Republicans blocked an end-run attempt to confirm David Hayes as Deputy Secretary of Interior in a contentious vote this morning, handing his potential future boss, Ken Salazar, a significant political defeat. Salazar called the vote “the height of cynicism” and testily […]

Colorado Pols Legislative Session Awards – Part Deuce

You’ve seen the big awards in Part I, so now it’s on to the second and final half of the Colorado Pols Legislative Session Awards: 2009. Click below to read the results and offer your own input… MR. IRRELEVANT Republican Rep. Mark Waller Here’s how we classify Mr. Irrelevant: You could have removed them from […]

On End-of-Life Care

I don’t believe in political third rails. If we go through life treating bad public policy like it’s taboo, eventually those bad policies will become so expensive that they’ll bring the whole system crashing down. I am half English and half American. So was Winston Churchill, who was simultaneously the most prolific historian and the […]

Denver Post Belatedly Gives One Line Half-Nod to Udall on Credit Card Reform

We got a little impatient with our friends over at the Denver Post a couple of weeks ago, noting their obsessive coverage on a series of questionable polls about Colorado officials while completely ignoring a huge story on Sen. Mark Udall’s longsuffering credit card reform efforts. For one thing, we think that responsibly reporting on […]

Boldly Following…Lundberg?

Why in the world would anyone oppose telecommuting? After all, it reduces road congestion, highway and car maintenance costs, fuel consumption, improves employee morale, and all kinds of other good stuff–there’s really no downside. About as uncontroversial a idea as you could possibly propose to the General Assembly, especially in the form of a symbolic […]

Equal Rights for the GLBT Community

So what’s my position on gay marriage/civil unions/domestic partnerships?  It’s very simple: Get the government out of the marriage business, once and for all.  Period. The GLBT community is truly the last segment of our society who are still judged because of their biology rather than the content of their character. I don’t think it’s […]

On Republicans…

I work every day with people who represent the very best of what the GOP has to offer.  They are not ideological, are not culture warriors, and care passionately about our state’s infrastructure and about making sure that all Coloradans can travel conveniently and safely. In my opinion, there are currently four types of Republicans. […]

Colorado Pols Legislative Session Awards

Your votes have been cast and considered, and after much deliberating, here are our choices in the first annual Colorado Pols Legislative Session Awards: 2009: BEST LEGISLATOR Republican Rep. Don Marostica As a member of the bipartisan Joint Budget Committee, Marostica has spent the last year poring over the state budget and trying to come […]

David Harsanyi – The Un-Conservative

Below the fold is an email exchange I had with the Denver Post columnist David Harsanyi in regards to his column about the GOP and Arlen Specter. Change the GOP should believe in http://www.denverpost.com/hars… The Denver Post editorial section has gotten decidedly more conservative with the additions of Mike Rosen and Vincent Carroll and my […]

Bennet Suddenly Everywhere

Don’t know if you’ve noticed in the last 72 hours or so–but junior Sen. Michael Bennet, fresh off pointed criticism from liberals over a recent vote on foreclosure prevention, has sprung into action on a broad array of issues. Earned media all over the place, we’ll start in Grand Junction where KJCT-TV reports on Bennet’s […]

Please stop propagandizing my mother!

I have really great parents who live in the southern part of Colorado Springs. I love my mom and dad very much, they’re good hardworking people who have earned the retirement Dad is just about to start. And they’re very sincere conservative Republicans. Who get duped constantly by right-wing propaganda. I can’t tell you how […]

Patrick’s Plan for a Successor to Referendum C

It’s clear that many of the problems in state and local Government in Colorado stem from the arbitrary and competing provisions of the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) and the Gallagher Amendment to the Colorado Constitution. For almost twenty years now, the combined impacts of TABOR and Gallagher have pushed more and more of the […]

Patrick’s Plan for Property Taxes

I need to let you in on a secret: There is a flaw in the Gallagher Amendment that causes most of you to pay too much in property taxes (or rent), to the benefit of wealthy people whose lifestyle choices are subsidized through your property, sales, and income taxes. When you pay your property tax […]

Blending Liberty and Leviathan: The Role of “Community” (short versions now posted in comments)

This is the first, revised, installment of what I’ll call my virtual chautauqua series, in which I’ll introduce what I hope are novel and thought-provoking ideas concerning political and social innovations that might serve our collective welfare, or topics that focus the mind on something beyond “business-as-usual,” and then leave it to others to discuss […]

McInnis In Serious Trouble Over Pinon Canyon

As the Pueblo Chieftain reports: For 12 years, Scott McInnis was the Republican congressman who represented the vast 3rd Congressional District, so it took some Democrats and Republicans by surprise this week when McInnis urged Gov. Bill Ritter to veto legislation that could hobble the Army’s long-contested plan to expand the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site. […]

Rep. Hodge and her death penalty vote

The death penalty in Colorado has survived by a single vote, One by one, senators at last revealed their views Wednesday on the complicated and controversial topic of the death penalty with simple ayes and nays during a roll-call vote in the waning hours of the legislative session. The verdict, by a single vote, came […]
