GOP Chairman Job Pays Well, Apply Within

A potentially changing field in the newly energized race for the next chairman of the Colorado Republican Party–as the Colorado Statesman’s Ernest Luning reports: Jefferson County GOP Chairman Don Ytterberg, his Larimer County counterpart Larry Carillo, and Cleve Tidwell, the international businessman who failed to make the ballot in last year’s U.S. Senate Primary, all […]

Udall takes on fight to end jobless benefits to millionaires

( – promoted by Colorado Pols) Sen. Mark Udall (D-CO) joined three of his colleagues in a bi-partisan effort to end the payment of jobless benefits to millionaires. Senators Udall,  Coburn (R-OK),  Tester (D-MT), and Representative James Lankford (R-OK) announced the introduction of a bill that would no longer allow for the payment of federal […]

Ryan Call Mulling State Chair Run

Denver GOP Chair Ryan Call is reportedly weighing a run at becoming the next Colorado Republican Party Chair. Call became the head of the Denver Republicans after Mary Smith stepped down in 2008.

Call has been involved with GOP politics in the state for over a decade. An attorney, Call served as legal counsel for the Colorado Republicans under outgoing State Chair Dick Wadhams, and was the Denver County Chair of the 2008 presidential campaign of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

If Call does end up running, he will face a field of candidates that includes State Senator Ted Harvey of Highlands Ranch among others. The Republicans will pick their new state leadership on March 26th in the conservative stronghold of Castle Rock.

BREAKING: Wadhams Abandons GOP Chair Race

UPDATE: Stokols: Wadhams had announced last month that he would be seeking another term, but told FOX 31 that he decided over the weekend to pull out of the race… “I was going to win,” Wadhams said. “I’ve made a lot of phone calls. My support is very strong. I just decided this is the […]

Colorado Democratic Party Chair Election

( – promoted by Colorado Pols) I will be very sorry to see Pat Waak go. In my contacts with her, she has always been extremely generous with her knowledge and time, sharing her wisdom and expertise on all kinds of state and national Democratic issues. She is kind yet assertive, down-to-earth yet highly skilled […]

Pat Waak stepping down as State Dem. Chair

(Promoted with minor link edit. – promoted by redstateblues) Pat Waak sent out a letter announcing her decision to not seek a 4th term as the State Dem’s Chairperson. Full story I have enjoyed having Pat as our party’s state chair. I have worked on several projects with the state party and have found her […]

Festivus: The Airing of the Grievances

(All in good fun, folks – promoted by Colorado Pols) Today, December 23, is Festivus for the Rest of Us.  I have my aluminum Festivus pole proudly reaching for the sky behind my garage.  The rest of the year it doubles as a quarter-wave 20-meter vertical antenna. It’s traditional to start with The Airing of […]

Post should take public responsibility for fair-use enforcement

UPDATE: This post was corrected Dec. 16 after a reader pointed out that Stephens Media, which is connected to Righthaven, does not own the Las Vegas Sun, which has been reporting extensively on the Righthaven lawsuits. Since March, Righthaven has been suing entities that post content from Las Vegas Review-Journal, not the Las Vegas Sun. […]

Will Colorado Republicans Support Steele for RNC Chair?

As our friends at “The Fix” explain: Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele’s announcement Monday that he will seek a second term as chairman of the committee stunned the political world and left strategists scrambling to assess the impact he could have on the contest. Steele, in a detailed statement released last night announcing his […]

Hick Picks Owens For Transition Co-Chair

FOX 31’s Eli Stokols reports: Former Gov. Bill Owens, Colorado’s last Republican governor, will be named as a co-chair of Gov.-Elect John Hickenlooper’s transition team, FOX 31 has learned… Naming Owens as part of his transition team continues Hickenlooper’s campaign effort to reach out to members of both parties and is the first big symbolic […]

9News Pulls Frazier Attack Ad Off the Air

An attack ad by Republican Ryan Frazier that goes after Rep. Ed Perlmutter for “allowing convicted rapists to receive Viagra” — a claim that has repeatedly been found to be untrue — has been pulled by 9News and will no longer run on the station. According to a press release from Perlmutter’s campaign: In a […]

Was CBS4 moderator being unfair when she told Buck that voters like her care about social issues?

Tough follow-up questioning is so much more fun to watch than the wimpy kind-and it makes for better informed voters besides (as long as it’s fair). Case in point: CBS4’s Gloria Neal’s exchange Saturday night with Ken Buck over the question, “Will you really make a raped woman carry a child to full term?” Fair […]

“Buyer’s Remorse” Hits the Airwaves

We told you this was coming. That’s the new ad on the air in Colorado Senate race, to our knowledge the first TV spot to invoke the recent scandal involving GOP candidate Ken Buck’s refusal to prosecute a case of alleged date rape in 2005. Sponsored by Women’s Voices Women Vote Action Fund, we’re awaiting […]

Cary Kennedy’s On The Air

Colorado Treasurer Cary Kennedy’s new ad, announced yesterday, is quite good–basic resonant issues (education), a solid positive message on fiscal responsibility, and–every political spectator’s favorite part–a nice, hard shot on GOP opponent Walker Stapleton. When we saw reports last February that Stapleton had actually said “it’s time education ‘competes’ for funds” against prisons, our first […]

Does the new Buck ad meet Post’s fairness standards?

(Either way, so much for that pledge to “stay positive”–six days, folks – promoted by Colorado Pols) The Denver Post over the weekend ran an editorial stating that a Michael Bennet ad was unfair. Now Buck is using the editorial in a commercial. You have to wonder if The Post, since it has yet to […]

Perlmutter: Questions About Connection Between Bennet’s PAC Money & Votes Are Fair

On the AM760 morning show today, I interviewed Democratic Rep. Ed Perlmutter about the state of Colorado politics. In our discussion about the Senate Democratic primary, I asked Perlmutter whether he believed the questions about the connection between Sen. Michael Bennet’s (D) massive corporate PAC fundraising and Sen. Bennet’s votes on key issues were legitimate […]

Arap Cty chair trying to stop Tancredo who responds in kind

Looks like the fight between Tom Tancredo and county chairs is getting personal and vicious. David Kerber, chair of the Arapahoe Cty Republicans has emailed his list for help in stopping Tom Tancredo. Tancredo doesn’t seem to think much of the attack. http://www.businessword.com.

Romanoff finally hits the airwaves

( – promoted by ClubTwitty) Former House Speaker Andrew Romanoff is finally joining Michael Bennet up on TV in the democratic primary. I don’t know how much money he has to spend on it, but the production value of the ad (which looks like it could have been done in the Wayne’s World basement) probably […]

Peter Boyles, with King and Tancredo on air with him, rips Cory Gardner

(A few swift kicks to the groin of Cory Gardner – promoted by Colorado Pols) Emotions have been building all week since congressional candidate Cory Gardner canceled a fundraiser that would have featured Iowa Rep. Steve King, and the subsequent decision by the Northern Colorado Tea Party to disinvite King from a rally. But things […]

At Least He’s Not Your State GOP Chairman

( – promoted by Colorado Pols) Our own Dick Wadhams provides plenty of fodder for you members of the pinko blogosphere but he hasn’t given you anything like this yet: Jim Greer, former head of the Republican Party of Florida, was arrested this morning, according to law enforcement officials… Greer is charged with six separate […]

Pinnacol Chairman Ken Ross Explodes on Camera

You’ve got to see this report from 7NEWS’ Tony Kovaleski to believe it, folks: Gov. Bill Ritter called a trip by three Pinnacol Assurance board members “ill-advised,” and there is now a bipartisan call for board resignations after a CALL7 investigation exposed a five-day luxury trip by Pinnacol staff and members of the governor-appointed board. […]

ColoradoPols: Less “Fair and Balanced” than Faux News

This morning’s diary attacking Romanoff on immigration made me start thinking about Colorado Pols coverage of the senate race.  I know the usual response is that Pols simply reposts relevant news stories and isn’t a news source, etc, but it’s a pretty bad argument.  Pols proudly touts that more people read their site than the […]

Frontier Airlines Slaps GOP for Slimy Anti-Hickenlooper Ads

Frontier airlines is having none of the opportunist Republican Governors Association ads attacking Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Hickenlooper. The company actually sent out a release saying that the ads were a low blow even in politics. The Colorado Independent: The ads claim that Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper cost the city more than 39,000 jobs as […]

Post should explain why GOP sees draft election bill as unfair

( – promoted by Colorado Pols) In its coverage yesterday of House Speaker Terrance Carroll’s draft plan to modernize election registration rules, The Denver Post stated that “Capitol Republicans have cast the legislation as an attempt by Democrats to skew elections in their favor, and one that could endanger the integrity of elections.” The Post […]

Actually, We Like You In “The Crosshairs”

Nothing but game face from Rep. John Salazar’s Republican challengers over Sarah Palin placing him in her now-infamous “crosshairs,” the Grand Junction Sentinel reports: Sarah Palin’s targeting of Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District will backfire on the two Republicans vying to run against Democrat incumbent John Salazar,  according to Salazar’s campaign. Campaign spokesman Ronnie Carleton also […]
