Pork projects may reach $29 billion
Report critical of Congress’ requests

GANNETT NEWS SERVICE
WASHINGTON — Congressional lawmakers could spend a record $29 billion on nearly 10,000 so-called pork projects tucked into this year’s federal spending bills, according to a government watchdog group.
The annual report released Wednesday by Citizens Against Government Waste highlights 375 of what it calls the worst cases of wasteful spending, including $1.3 million for berry research in Alaska and $500,000 for the Sparta Teapot Museum in Sparta, N.C.
Holtzman tougher foe?
Written by Guerin Green
Saturday, 08 April 2006
Watching the Republican race for Governor is an interesting story in contrasts.
The Beauprez campaign is professional, establishmentarian, a bit like the Coors campaign of two years ago, without the charisma or quirkiness of the beer magnate candidate.
The Holtzman campaign is constantly moving, feinting, adjusting, using issues to leverage red-meat conservatives and their passions. Right now it is immigration. After beating Beauprez about the head and shoulders with Referendum C last year, Holtzman is like a saavy NBA defender, with sharp elbows dealt furtively while the feet never stop moving. And that is high praise, particularly given the history of both basketball and Colorado politics.
Just watch out if Beauprez has to take a vote on a compromise immigration bill this spring. Back the president or anger the base back in Colordo?
Holtzman even deftly paints recent polls by Rasmussen and Zogby to his advantage, and uses a blogger named Mt. Virtus to salt away his somewhat wacky case. But if Holtzman runs only slightly behind Beauprez in the match-ups with Ritter, why not take the chance? Holtzman seems today the better campaigner, and why not bet that horse in November.
Democrats, by and large, have been wishing to see Holtzman win, knowing that Beauprez would be more formidable, better funded. As the campaign matures, that wisdom may be changing. With national events putting a stiff breeze at the back of Bill Ritter, it will be shifty, not stolid, that would give Republicans their best shot. Holtzman, as the moving sands sit today, will give Ritter the larger share of trouble.
Democrats be warned. This year, with the tables turned on the Republicans, a break the mold (and the china) underdog like Holtzman is far more likely to catch fire.

And don’t forget: Holtzman is Six-foot-Five!
I just had a conversation with a RIGHT WING CONSERVATIVE, that said, “look, President Bush can do anything he wants, he is the BOSS.”
THIS is what is wrong with CONSERVATIVES, they think the President of the United States is a dictator. Well, the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights says otherwise. The definition of DEMOCRACY states otherwise.
The PEOPLE of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are the BOSS … REMEMBER THAT IN NOVEMBER !!!
Unless, you want to lose your democracy in America.
Well, I talked to a left-wing liberal, Patriot, and he reminded me that the People of the United States of America elected George Bush as President! You might remember that, too. As for the constitution, you’re the one who posted yesterday that if we impeach the president we’ll have a new election. You’ve never read the constitution, boy, and maybe you ought to before sounding off as an authority on it.
The problem with Sir Robin, now posting as Serf T, and his ilk is that their hatred of Bush is so overwhelming they post anything negative they can find they think will make him look bad. In the above example, Citizens Against Government Waste is a perfect case. These guys swallow the elephant and choke on the gnat. Eighty percent of federal spending is in mandates or defense. The budget is so huge that their alleged $29 billion in waste is barely 1 percent of the total. The only way to balance the budget is to raise taxes and cut military spending, like Clinton did, though repealing that awful senior drug benefit would help too. CAGW NEVER would do that and by echoing their misdirection campaign uncritically, Sir Robin is falling for the right-wing smokescreen that says we can have even bigger tax cuts if we only stop spending money on teapots. It can’t happen and serious analysts know that.
Voyageur,
In respect of your opinion, I really don’t conclude that President Bush was elected as you suggest. Al Gore actually won the popular vote in 2000, and in 2004, we had some voter fraud and a conclusion that it is possible that voter machines in several states may have been tampered with. In any case, President Bush couldn’t win a vote for President of the glee club or as head cheerleader.
In my suggestion of having a “new” election, it was my aim to carry a “debate” over that process. I understand the process, yet the idea of having a replacement “President” for two years does not sound too great either. In a best circumstance, it would be almost better to “Impeach” President Bush, and then immediately have a new Presidential election. If the “people” were to want some type of one time change, we could vote on such an Amendment, and do it. It is not an impossible idea, unless we are not a Democracy anymore.
The Supreme Court selected Mr. Bush as President, and now he barely hits 50% approval ratings in 8% of the states, and below 50% in the other 92% of the states. Bush is a failure. Everything he has done has been a nightmare. What about fiscal conservatism? What about strengthening emergency response and REAL homeland security, rather than over extending our forces in a losing situation spiraling toward civil war? Remember the lies, or call it incompetence. Either way the Bush Administation is no longer fit to govern.
Voyageur,
Speaking about Amending the US Constitution with the voice of the “people.” I have a crazy thought. Yes, call me nuts for suggesting it.
The Euro has been very successful in Europe. What is the possibility of creating a similar dollar on our side of the globe? Why not solve the border issue with Mexico, with the creation of a “Americo” dollar, which is a blend of the economic productivity between the US and Mexico. Since we have such an open border with Mexico and the fact that President Bush worries about a direction toward “Isolated” commerce and trade (ie. his promotion of the Ports deal), maybe we could solve some of our national debt concerns with a replacement dollar with Mexico?
I would be in favor of such a study, that aims at bringing the two nations closer together, creating a more democratic and improved government with Mexico. I still think we should be encouraging greater levels of economic investment with Mexico, but I think it is possible that Mexico’s reluctance is because of the disadvantage of “Capital” between the two nations. If we created a new North American dollar, that could solve some of the issues and potentially solve the debate over immigration as well.
I apologize in advance for my imaginative thinking, certainly if the idea has no merit and seems to be too forward thinking. But then again, Democrats tend to look at everybody’s ideas, and not just from one person or leader. Hmmm.
Don’t forget Canada, then maybe we could get the Queen on our bills.
stick a dick in it, you twat.
In the Queen. My God man, she’s ancient!
and what, pray tell, is your infatuation with feminine hygine?
Patriot, you only prove once again you have never read the constitution. Read the part about the electoral college and you will understand We the Real People did elect Bush president, twice. We even kicked your ass in the popular vote in 2004 and you have been whining about it ever since. Oh, but I forgot, those black helicopters stole the Kerry ballots! Your notion of ignoring the constitution and hijacking the presidency with a coup d-etat would indeed mean we were not a Democracy any more, still less the Republic that the constitution guarantees us. We would be a mobocracy, similar to Germany in the 1930s, where goons in the street battled to rule the country. You need to move to Britain or someplace where the parliament does elect the chief executive, of course, even there you will have to live under the rule of law you so detest. Until you actually read the constitution, I will continue to laugh at your nitwit notions of how to avoid its strict mandates.
Right … the Queen of England and the President of Mexico are not interested in creating Democracy worldwide, like what President Bush has suggested (at least not peacefully). The only way to create peace around the world, is through “CONTROL” and “RELIGION” and conservative folks who don’t want democracy everywhere without their right to tell everyone how to live, how to speak and who is their KING GEORGE, with the removal of Democracy in the process. *wink*
Ha ha ha ha. The ‘rule of law’ as if this administration and its Republican yes men in Congress live under the “rule of law.” Go Duke Cummingham! Go Claude Allen! Go Scooter! Go Jack! Go Tom TOm “the hammered” DeLay! Yee-Haw, Alberto Gonzales got your ‘rule of law’ hanging right here buddy!
I would be happy with impeachment, but certainly prefer indictment and conviction. We will see, we will see. Fact is…”we the people” disapprove of the Prezpuppet by a margin of 2:1 (except in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and Alabama, those bastions of enlighted thought).
I never suggested that the idea could not be ratified by the “people” … which in the strick terms of what a Democracy IS, accounts for a debate that the “people” deem (voted) as what they want.
I guess, in America, through freedom of speech, you cannot make a suggestion, or talk about “solutions” or crazy ideas.
Sorry for my “Democratic right.” Uh hmmmm, (swallow … gulp).
Spending money on weapons and war sounds like a much better solution for another 2000 years, (from the desk of the conservatives) rather than giving up their “CONTROL” and disrespect for other people and societies around the world. YOU”RE RIGHT, it is better to follow KING GEORGE’S PLAN, and not truly follow what a DEMOCRACY is all about — with what HE SAY’S everyday, repeated over and over … *wink*
Must stick to taking points in spite of facts…
Iraq stand up, we stand down. We are winning. Massive increases in discretionary federal spending, tax cuts for the wealthiest 1/10 of 1% of Americans, war, war, war, illegal wiretaps, misleading the American p[eople about war, wiretaps, revenge-motivated ‘leaks,’ are all necessary in the (nver-to-end) War on Terror…
Iraq stands up we stand down. We are winning…
We apparently won again, patriot. have a good weekend.
In the end, from a philosophical anaylsis, over time, either the CONSERVATIVES relinquish their ROMAN EMPIRE control, (for peace around the world) in exchange for DEMOCRACY, or the cycle of war will no doubt continue for mankind, I gather that is a better solution in your minds. *wink*
I would rather place my support in the voice of the “people” ahead of any dictator … no matter if they liked or disliked my CRAZY suggestion or not.
You have a good weekend as well.
Sir Drunk just gets wierder and wierder. Look at this long chain of posts in which Serf T, Sir Drunk’s latest name, and Patriot post endlessly a few minutes apart, always stroking each other and equally stupid. Clearly, Sir Drunk and Patriot are one and the same. Sir Drunk posts as Surf T, then as Patriot saying what a great guy Sir Drunk is, and Sir Drunk then posts as Serf T saying how Brillian Sir Drunk, posting as Patriot, is. It’s either that or two imbeciles just accidentally trading posts moments apart. And frankly, I don’t think the law of averages allows for two people that stupid to be on the same blog at the same time. Patriot demands we have an unscheduled election in defiance of the constitution and Sir Drunk thinks thats a wonderful idea, etc. Lord, Sir Drunk just gets wierder and wierder.
Voyaguer,
*wink* You’re right … I’m Sir Drunk (laugh) … because, you say so! Ah, those CONSERVATIVES once again. This is why we need to VOTE democratic in November. Yes, lets take the CONSERVATIVE approach to the arugument (that I’m Sir Drunk) and spin away from the original perspectives of my assertion that a true Democracy will “consider” the objective elements of a discussion from all the citizens of the country, (USA) rather than just from one person, (salute!) KING GEORGE! 🙂
I confess. Really, I am Voyaguer, and I cannot spell even my own user name correctly. I like to post inane-defend the GOP no matter their transgressions-comments and then repond to them under one of my many user names, let’s see Serf T, Sir Robin, patriot… Who else have you, er I mean, I, accused?
Do any of you know the location for the CO Dem State Convention in Greeley on 5/20?
Don’t even pretend to be me, Sir Drunk/Serf T/Patriot/Club Twitty and whatever else you post in today. You’re far too stupid and nobody would ever mistake your inchoate and insensate eructations for my thoughts.
Thanks for correcting the misspelling in your user name, non-inchoate (???) and non-insensate (??) non-eructationer (??) that you are, and clearly my intellectual superior.
And I love your formless burps too!
Have you ever noticed in life that persons who need to use big words–when clearly a more common word would both suffice and add the same level of precision, but often is more accurate–are often quite insecure intellectually. But that’s cool. Your problems don’t bother me, so go forth and spout your homilies. Meanwhile, a little teaser for you-
Name three things Bush has not screwed up. Only three, in five years, shouldn;t be hard, especially for somone as verbose as yourself.
I wouldn’t necessarily say that posting with articulation and more demonstrative diction is really a bad thing . . . why bash people for attempting to employ language to its fullest? I get a little riled when I hear people decrying the use of “big words.” Most of the leaders and successful people in this world don’t consider a good vocabulary to be a blight on stature.
I’m a Democrat and no great fan of Bush, but that’s a bit of a loaded question. If you don’t like his policies, of course you think he hasn’t done anything good. If you’re a Bush supporter, you could list many things. He won another term, he’s had his way with foreign policy, the economy hasn’t stagnated (hasn’t really taken off either, but when it comes to that sort of thing the president doesn’t have as much control as we all seem to assume), he’s maintained a majority in Congress, he has ‘stayed the course,’ etc.
So, if you’re a fan of the president, he has done many things well. If you’re not, he’s screwed up frequently. Sorry to be so critical, but political discussions tend to end poorly when the comments are just generalized “this person or these people are bad” statements.
Gray in the Mountains:
According to the Weld County Dems website, the state assembly will be a thte Island Groves Event Center in Island Groves Park. If you type “island grove” and Greely CO into mapquest it will give you a map. Appears to be on hte north west side of Greely just off of I-85
FYI, Pat riot, we are not a democracy. In fact, we are a constitutional republic. Unfortunately, your ignorance on what type of system of government we have limits your credibility.
Voyageur posts like Bush governs. He guesses and then prays he’s right. If Bush wasn’t so tragically wrong, and expensive and and dangerous, I might laugh.
This is my first post today.
Sir Robin-
Amazing that the only charge Voy BMR et al can make is that 1-I am you and 2-we are drunk.
Actually, I am currently sipping a Fat Tire, but where is the substance–so Voy can use a thesaurus, but can he address the issues–
Soesn’t seem like it. So, Voyeur, besides non-tangible goals like ‘staying the course’ name 3 Bush accomplishments…
Mission Accomplished-Iraq, greeted as liberators.. no insurgency (just a few ‘deadendders.’–score ZERO
Fiscal accountabiity–increased discretionary spending MORE in 5 years than the GOP-Bogey-Man Sr. Clinton diod in 8… THat’s the one they kept labeling a tax and spend sopcialist. Bush tax-cut and spend… socre-ZERO
Manned mission to Mars–ZERO
Social Security reform–ZERO
Democracy (or constiturional republic) in Afghanistan–sure if exiling xtians is a sign of democracy, otherwise, score-ZERO
Accountaibility, ethics back in the WH-score, ZERO
So I am waiting, VOY, anyone, name three tangible accomplishments.
US leak of Zarqawi letter riles Israelis
ISRAELI military intelligence officials have accused President George W Bush’s administration of undermining their attempts to infiltrate Al-Qaeda’s operations in Iraq by revealing the contents of a secret letter written by Osama Bin Laden’s second-in-command, writes Uzi Mahnaimi.
Israel passed the letter — in which Ayman al-Zawahiri outlined his Middle East strategy to Abu Musab al- Zarqawi, the Al-Qaeda leader in Iraq — to Washington last October on condition of strict anonymity.
Israeli officials were dismayed, however, when John Negroponte, the US director of national intelligence, made it available in both English and its original Arabic on his office web site.
Bush then referred to it during his weekly address. “The Al-Qaeda letter points to Vietnam as a model,” the president declared. “Al-Qaeda believes that America can be made to run again. They are gravely mistaken. America will not run and we will not forget our responsibilities.”
Israeli intelligence sources said officials who had worked on “Operation Tiramisu” inside Iraq took emergency steps to protect their sources, but it was not clear how successful they had been in averting the damage to their intelligence network.
They said Bush’s indiscretion had undone months of painstaking effort.
Sorry, Surf T, but unless there is a nincompoop convention in town, there is no possibility that three people as you, Sir Robin and Patriot would all stumble onto a single blog at exactly the same time. Sir Robin’s hateful posts have made him so persona non grata (oops, another word you didn’t find in your weekly reader, sorry) on this board that he uses many aliases … but they can’t hide the diseased mind at the keyboard.
then, my friend, you have shown you have no sense. i suspected it all along. but you make things up. i am neither this person you call Sir Robin, nor patriot, but whether you continue in your delusions or not, I don’t care. Just pointing out that you are–in spite of whatever cooked up “intelligence” you wish to use to justify your beliefs–wrong. Perhaps Patriot and Sir Robin are the same, since I am neither, I wouldn’t know. But I have no reason to believe that. Face it 2-1 Americans no longer approve of Bushit, the puppet. Talk about someone in need of a weekly reader, but I digress. Thus it is in fact likely that many folks (go Harry Taylor!) agree with sentiments expressed by SR, P, and myself, and that less and less and less and less with each passing day and each new lie and/or failure, agree with you. We’ll see what happens in Co and the USA this November.
Still waiting for those three tangible acheivements by the Preznitwit. Only three in 5 years, surely it cannot be THAT hard. Let’s see…oh yeah the PATRIOT ACT. (Assuming you agree with this anti-American legislation, then you now only need to list two). I, predictably, consider the PATRIOT ACT a severe transgression against what this nation stands for, what my father fought for, what I pay my taxes for, what I believe in, what I have studied, what I know. I am not a Democrat and I am not a Republican. I am an American very distressed about the ditch this administration and the rubber-stamp Congress, have driven our nation into. It will take decades to recover, if we can, from the damge wrought by Bush and his cronies.(It is probably more accurate to say The Cronies and their Bush-puppet, but you get the point).
Dissent is the cornerstone of democracy (or a Constitutional Republic) especially when those in power are shredding the Constitution and wiping their asses with our laws. Indeed, given the criminal element that has seized control of our institutions, dissent is not merely a right it is a fundemental responsibility.
I am a citizen, I am a patriot, I read, I vote and I organize. I personally hung over 500 doorhangers blasting Greg–steal the water–Walcher, and he went down BIG TIME. Can’t wait until \November! Praying to take out Tancredo, Musgrave, help the Dem’s (the better of two bad parties) take the 7th. B.O.’s failed legacy replaced by Ritter. Then there is 2008–bye bye 98%-Bush-sycophant Allard!
\
1. No more buildings in New York have been hit by commercial airline planes since 2001.
2. On more commercial airline planes have smashed into the Pentagon since 2001.
3. All acts of terrorism since 2001 have seemed to occure in places other than the Unites States of America.
So there you go Serf… Everything else is just eye candy. Do I win a bet or something?
God I’m an idiot…
How about…
2. “No more commercial airline planes…”
Sorry, I will admit to having a Paulaner… Or two.
Hard to prove a negative. No spaceships have blown up the WH either.
Oh sure, and there was that big new agency created by the Federal Governent in the last 6 years, even had a cabinet post, devoted to making sure space ships didn’t blow up the White House…
Or was that in France?
Crazy threads. So what’s up with the Repukes? Can’t they defend their man?
Dear “RandyFrickefor Governor”…
Which man pray tell.
Pres. Bush, the commander-in-theif
Oh yeah, deep logic man…
Anyone up for a littel Clinton bashing? I know it is so 90s, but hey! Always fun!
Come on there Serf… Snappy rejoiner for all your fans…
Fact: The Bush Adminsitration has pissed a boat load of folks off.
Fact: Terrorism in the US is a non-issue because of said policies that have pissed people off.
Fact: In 100 years, dispite Plessy vs. Furgeson, the history books will say that the Supreme Court saved American when they ruled about the vote in Florida and George Bush became President of the US.
But hey, what do I know, I’m drinking German beer tonight.
Not really knowing what Plessy v. Furgeson has to do with the argument at hand, it appears there’s something in German beer that trips (short circuits) the spelling and logic areas of the brain…a kind of engramic misfire that actually gives one (Iron Mike) the impression that Dubya is actually protecting us all. Rose-colored glasses come with the German beer?
See, now I feel like an idiot…
Alas George, you cut me to the quick sir.
I just spent the last three days trying to reconcile the hearts of my fellow GOPers to our minds. Today we had a nice pay off.
Is it the German beer? No. It is the zeal of knowing Americans in this part of the map are not stupid. And yeah, I am an idiot and forgot to run the spell check before punching it through.
I believe you had a similar experience a few weeks ago when a certain church group (of anti-American, false-prophet followers) were in town.
I’m sure my brother, you know from whence I speak.
like bush or hate him, if you look at history (an ugly thing i know) presidents elected to a second term generally have a great downfall in popularity during this time. as far bush is concerned, i cant stand several of his policies (the fast-tracking of energy acquisition on federal land, for one), but he has certainly done a good job with his farm plan (although we shall see how the new farm bill comes out).
i also admire that he had the guts to try changing social security, something clinton never even attempted (theres some clinton bashing for you iron mike!). ok time to go back outside!
Bush wants to NUKE Iran! This madman needs to be removed from office!!
From a senior Pentagon adviser on the war on terror. “This White House believes that the only way to solve the problem is to change the power structure in Iran, and that means war,” he said.
Yes, Bush has already decided that diplomacy won’t work. He’s already decided that the only way to solve the problem is to declare war on Iran. Just like the way the White House had already decided to attack Iraq the day after September 11, to hell with the evidence, to hell with the wisdom of it.
And one of the options the White House is considering, is using tactical nukes against Iran. Yes, nukes.
Yes, nukes.
One of the military’s initial option plans, as presented to the White House by the Pentagon this winter, calls for the use of a bunker-buster tactical nuclear weapon, such as the B61-11, against underground nuclear sites.
And while the military is trying to take the nuclear option off the table, the White House is refusing to budge, they want the nukes:
Late this winter, the Joint Chiefs of Staff sought to remove the nuclear option from the evolving war plans for Iran—without success, the former intelligence official said. “The White House said, вЂWhy are you challenging this? The option came from you.’
If Bush uses nukes against Iran, kiss every high-rise in America good-bye. Kiss our relationship with every country in the world good-bye. Not to mention, as Seymour Hersh notes, imagine the reaction from the world’s 1.2 billion Muslims if we nuke their brothers. I’m not one to shy away from a confrontation, but going nuclear? And against a country that has decades of experience with international terror? Is he mad?
(From Americablog.com)
You apologists better get a grip. Is this what you want?
IMPEACH NOW!
All this talk of a two party system, and we in Colorado have
a third party of independent unaffiliated people, and growing. Why do we not recognize that, until it smacks us into reality, come November 7. Find your candidate and work for them, whoever they be.

Justin donated to the empty suit (Beauprez). His job is to appear conservative and split the vote in the primary away from Kopp for the benefit of the The Kink.
Franklin, you mind tightening up that non sequitur.
Bush can’t even keep himself safe.
Whenever the president travels, security is a prime consideration. Motorcade routes are kept secret, and premature release of information about a presidential trip aboard one of the twin Air Force One planes can result in the Secret Service canceling a visit.
Thus, the Air Force reacted with alarm last week after The Chronicle told the Secret Service that a government document containing specific information about the anti-missile defenses on Air Force One and detailed interior maps of the two planes — including the location of Secret Service agents within the planes — was posted on the Web site of an Air Force base.
The document also shows the location where a terrorist armed with a high-caliber sniper rifle could detonate the tanks that supply oxygen to Air Force One’s medical facility.
As of Friday, the document was still posted online. The Secret Service refused to comment on the document’s release.
“It is not a good thing” for that information to be in the public domain, said Lt. Col Bruce Alexander, director of public affairs for the Air Mobility Command’s 89th Airlift Wing, Andrews Air Force Base, which operates the presidential air transport fleet. “We are concerned with how it got there and how we can get it out. This affects operational security.”
Information about Air Force One’s anti-missile systems is considered particularly sensitive.
“Having information about a target’s countermeasures does two things,” said Daniel Goure of the Lexington Institute. “It gives you an opportunity to choose a different weapon and to choose a different attack style … perhaps choosing to launch a salvo attack, or choose a missile that uses an active beam.”
“It is tough enough for the Secret Service to do its job without this,” said Leon Panetta, former chief of staff to President Bill Clinton, who now runs a public policy study center at California State University at Monterey Bay. “If I were still chief of staff, I would order the damned site (to) pull it down.”
Well, for what it’s worth, Serf T, I do believe you’re not sir Robin or Patriot either. Robin logged in after I left and said it was his first post. He’s a very strange man, but he’s no liar. Patriot, on reading his post about Reagan, shows a substantially different writing style than Robin’s, or your’s. While many of his other posts were as inchoate as Robin”s or your’s (sorry, I know you hate big words, that means essentially unclear, disorganized, murky) that one about Reagan showed at reasonable writing skills.
And you obviously know the Western Slope, which is proof enough that you’re not Sir Robin. I really just couldn’t believe three do-whacky-doo leftos would stumble in here and engage in the mutual admiration society you and patriot did, but stranger things have happened. Not often, but they have happened! And I’m sorry about the line about a nincompoop’s convention. Sometimes my exasperation gets the better of me. If you and Robin and Patriot reach orgasm by shrieking ridiculous things about George Bush, more power to do. It’s better than watching you turn to Jesus!
Sir–Excellent piece. Culture of weakness in the White House…also culture of the Emperor’s New Clothes.
Dear Sirrah Rocbin,
Dude, I wanted to nuke Iran. I had a tee-shirt that said so, and I bet you did too. So get off that tired old arguement and find something new and original…
Something like Clinton sucks…
Oh wait, he’s not the one that was sucking. My bad.
There’s nothing wrong with Bush, except that he’s Bush. He’s not exactly Eisenhower…or Reagan…or TR…or Ford…or Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. By the way, isn’t that Justin Everett pitching for the Rockies. Is there anything he doesn’t do?
Achievements of Bush:
An unsurprassed record of appointing women and minorities to crucial posts — indeed, he is the only president never to have appointed a white man as Secretary of State. Clinton is the only one who even comes close to Bush on this point.
A stalwart fight against the nativist hordes rallying behind the banner of Democrats like Dick Lamm and Republican renegades like Tom Tancredo. By standing up for Hispanics, he has fortified American ideals.
Naming and winning confirmation of two U.S. Supreme Court Justices who know that the constitution means more than whatever the latest really stupid editorial in the New York Times thinks it means.
Rallying the nation after the 9-11 villainy and leading the overthrow of the gangster Taliban regime that nurtured it.
Winning approval of CAFTA and continuing the push for free trade backed by every president since Harry Truman.
Not humiliating his wife by sleeping with every zaftig slut in Washington. (Sorry about another big word, Serf T. Look it up, it’ll do you good. By the way, I never use a thesaurus, haven’t since high school. You should try reading something besides “high times” yourself.)
Promoting the peace process between Israel and the Palestinians.
REALLY pissing off Michael Moore, thus bringing mirth and satisfaction to every real American.
and many more…
Failures of George Bush.
Bollixed the economy, turning Clinton’s copious (sorry, another big word. it means abundant) surpluses into unsustainable deficits.
That, by the way, is the reason I voted for John Kerry in 2004. I voted for Bush in 2000 and would certainly do so again if he was again facing Al Gore.
You see, SerfandTurf, you automatically assume anyone who doesn’t share your psychotic views is a right-wing zealot. Hardly the case.
Anyway, I could go on about Bush’s achievements but the fact is that they are, in my view, overshadowed by his economic failures. Now, I’ll let you go back to rueing your lost water. Hey, relax. I love that stuff! It’s not our fault God put the water west of the mountains and most of the people on this side! 😉
Voyageur—Anyone who can rationalize voting for Bush then Kerry is schizophrenic. That’s a big word that means more or less psychotic in a nice way, sort of like MPD.
The headline below is from CNN. Can you say background check? What kind of a cluster-fuck is Chertoff running over there? Is this guy another crony?
Co-workers: DHS official had previous pornography incident
WASHINGTON (CNN) — A Department of Homeland Security spokesman charged with soliciting a minor over the Internet was disciplined in a previous job after an incident in which pornographic images were seen on an office computer, his friends and former co-workers said.

Having met and done the hail fellow well met thing several times with both candidates in several get-togethers, I can say Holtzman is the PE major. His grip is firm. His greeting is warm. You meet him and want to buy him a beer. Beauprez dosn’t like to touch. His grip is weak. I felt I was squeezing his hand out of shape like in those old cartoons where the fingers bulge out. When I pump his arm, his whole body seems to travel up and down. He’s luke warm, avoidant, and has never connected with this aging athlete. These two are precisely opposite their public personae.
No rationalizations needed , Romefalling, to explin voting for bush the first time and Kerry the second. Bush seemed much the better of the two in 2000. By 2004, his economic policies were clear failures. I do not believe in rewarding failure. Whgat I want to know is how you can look at Clinton’s $300 billion surpluses, then at Bush’s $400 billion deficits, and not understand that we’re eating our seed corn. Fiscal responsibility was the reason I became a Republican 30 years ago. I like Bush, he’s a good and decent man. But his economy policy has demonstrably failed.
Voyageur—Okay, I understand you, aside fromt he fact that you must be drinking the same typo mixture as myself, say a dry red? To answer you is easy. If you’re going to borrow money, do so when rates are low. Lend when rates are high. That’s the set up. Elder Republicans need a secure income stream, Treasury bonds are the ticket. It took 30 years to pay off WWII. Now here’s the really evil part. Soak up capacity in military programs. Any further Democrat funny business, must be funded with a tax increase. By the way, the Laffer Curve is real.
In talking with my RIGHT WING CONSERVATIVE friend again, he quipped and scratched at his chin, wondering what the fall from grace (President Bush) trully means for his IRS taxes in two years. He outlined the fact that his greatest concern, with the control of the House and Senate to the Democrats, means that he will have to sell one of his four homes, which he was hoping for another opportunity at gaining a fifth. “WIth a raise in taxes for the wealthy, they will have to take the pinch of not living the high lifestyle, then they will live more a likened to those who don’t have so much.” I just laughed. Then I cried, for those who can’t even afford a multi-million dollar home (even one).
Golly, will someone please remind our “wealthly” conservatives, “that paying our fair share is not a question over ‘not paying anything’ and having to pay something for the free ride in America.” Ops, then I realized, that President Bush was mostly interested in providing the people of Mexico free health care, no taxes, free education, and to do all the busy stuff that no American would want to do.
Basically, I think I have been able to surmise President Bush’s “keep voter campaign” with the thought that he “milks” and I mean “rips to the highest degree” the middle class with “their responsibility” to pay all the taxes. But for those who are immigrants, those who are ultra rich, we can expect them to worry about losing ONE of those multi-million dollar houses, while even though they are empty, because we don’t want any unfriendlys living in our homes, especially if they are from the Southern US, where those poor folks had to deal with HURRICANES, losing their moble homes and everything they own.
It is such a sad thing for those people, who never applied themselves (spoken by my CONSERVATIVE FRIEND) because their situation is all their fault, since if they would have invested into Texas Oil, they would be sitting on a mountain of wealth, just like me. And EXXON MOBLE has every right to make BIG BUCKS at the pump, because President Bush allowed them to have a monopoly on energy.
Aahhhhh, I was just driving through town this morning, smelling the wonderful arroma of burned fossil fuel from behind the tailpipe of one of those “MULTI-MILLIONAIRES” and it was so pleasant, that I had to remind myself that we have lost 2,348 American service men and women for those who love the “burning of oil” concept for our children and childrens children children, since we have no other choice at the pump. AND besides, whoever would go up and tap on the window of one of those very very wealthy Americans, who are so worried about losing the comforts of ONE of those multi-million dollar homes, when we have the GREATEST President in the history of the United States in office, since he can figure out how to lie to the American pulbic, attack a soverign nation under the banner of the mysterious bringing down of TOWER #7, and NEVER saying one truthful item, including his thoughts that I’m no dictator. I’m President of the greatest country in the world.
RomeFell: You are right on the money with the Holtzman/Beauprez comparisons. That has been my experience with the two. Beauprez stands or sits in one spot waiting for people to come to him, Holtzman makes the rounds and works the room. Holtzman has a much warmer, next door neighbor persona, someone who would help you fix a flat tire. The Beauprez supporters I know say they are supporting him because they think he can beat Ritter, but they never speak of him in glowing terms. It will be interesting to see what happens at the state assembly.
Hmmm. I gather from watching the Sunday news programs, that we are poised to attack Iran with the dropping of several nuclear missiles. I gather that bunker bombs will not do the job completely enough, even though “CIA Intelligence” foretells that the Iranians are at least 8 to 10 years from the creation of one nuclear weapon. And, CNN.com this morning reported that inside the Oval office, President Bush has stated that “he is the only person” that would do what is necessary in a nuclear bombing of Iran,” and that senior Adminnistration officials are angry that the idea of using several nuclear bombing devises aganist Iran for their own nuclear program, has not been tabled, since they are 8 to 10 years from even creating such a nuclear bomb. AND, that many senior Administration officials are on the verge of resigning from President Bush’s cabnet, since the President is not willing to “table” a nuclear attack against Iran.
I watched the CNN program at earnest, especially when CNN stated that the President is not concerned about the 2006 election, but is more concerned about “not” using a nuclear weapon against Iran during his term, since he said that no other President will be willing do so in the future. The un-named senior Administration officials also noted the fact that President and his highest-level Administration have done little to nothing in creating a dialogue of talking “diplomacy” with the Iranian government, to not even consider other alternatives.
It seems that the President “wants” a nuclear war with Iran. This is SCARY and brings to mind,
“Why does a dog wag its tail? Because a dog is smarter than its tail. If the tail was smarter, the tail would wag the dog.” Interpretations differ as to the meaning of this metaphor. Some suggest the dog is public opinion, and the tail represents the media; the dog is the media, and the tail is political campaigns; or the dog is the people, and the tail is the government.
Moreover, the expression “the tail wagging the dog” refers to any case where something of greater significance (such as a war) is driven by something lesser (such as a sex scandal or political survival, or to coverup other issues in the Oval office).
Becky—I will cast my ballot at state unabashedly for Hotlzman. I never consider the one I think could win. I’m not built that way. Holtzman’s IQ is at least 20 points higher than the Empty Suit. Hope to see you at the State Assembly in the Spgs.
Gosh, if Holtzman’s IQ is 20 points higher than Beauprez’s, that must put it somewhere in the mid-50s, right?
Just so all of you know that what I said above was true … this is written from CNN.com
Nuclear option
Hersh’s report says the administration has stepped up clandestine activities in Iran and has initiated a series of talks on its plans with “a few key senators and members of Congress.”
A former senior defense official is cited as saying the planning was based on the belief that a bombing campaign against Iran would humiliate the leadership and lead the Iranian public to overthrow it, adding that he was shocked to hear the strategy.
The report also said the administration is seriously considering using “bunker buster” tactical nuclear weapons against Iran to ensure the destruction of Iran’s main centrifuge plant at Natanz.
The Pentagon adviser is quoted as saying some senior officers and officials were considering quitting over the plans to use nuclear weapons.

Patriot—And the problem is?
IS the decision to drop nuclear bombs on Iraq, a decision that the majority of Americans (the people) wish to undertake, (considering loss of innocent life in the Middle East in the process) or the “majority” of either the President’s staff or other key high ranking officalas, or is the President presenting his argument with a truthful discussion with alternatives that could/may include embargo, “worldwide UN support, (with presentation of the argument to the world) with truthful transparent information, that assures that we have no other option, other than to drop nuclear devises on several key Iranian locations?
Are we a bit anxious in assuming that we need to drop nuclear weapons in the very near future with Iran, when the 8 – 10 year time frame is so far removed from our calandars, and with such a strike, we set into stone, a level of terrorism around the globe that could lead toward a response against Israel?
“Where is the great communication? Where is the truth (what is the truth)? Where is the diplomacy? Where are the lists of alternatives that should be discussed in concert with a nuclear attack option? Where is the debate over such a massive scale attack (and very dangerous) that holds the possibility of “restraint” over an escalation of tensions? What will be the response from Russia, China?
Many, many questions … and much not being discussed openly with the American public.
Rome Fell – Justin Everett has conservative credentials by working for conservative causes and candidates. Dana Mike K. who just moved into the district by the way, hasn’t earned his conservative stripes. He only courts conservatives and claims to be conservative to serve his own self-interest.
Voters will decide who the best candidate is in the District, and my money is on Justin.
Primaries are more about name ID vs. who’s conservative. Schaffer – Coors was a good example of this. Yet to see an candidate do a mail piece that says, “Hey I’m the biggest conservative Nut in this race, vote for me”.
KT, if she decideds to petition on is claiming to be a conservative as well. That’s laughable, but smart.
Where did that Rockies reference come from? Is there a Justin Everett on the roster?
Has a worldwide “leadership” meeting or “conference” (somewhere in the world, like in a nice set of Islands, like Seychelles, in the Indiana ocean) to discuss (in secret) worldwide “struggles” and a discussion over “peaceful” worldwide living, that includes “govenment” around the world, that lives in “transparency,” as President Bush mentioned “once,” to outline the future thoughts from all of the world’s experts and politicians, that aims at solving problems, rather than creating more of them? Why can’t we work on removing the idea of building nuclear capacity to do harm, and instead use nuclear energy as the process to remove our need for the damages from the “burning of fossil fuel?”
Ops, I forgot, I can’t ask these questions, since I’m not a wealthy self-interested person, that wishes to see the world deliver itself from such an unreasonable idea of using the repeated pattern of war, peace, war, peace, war ……
It all reminds me of a “relationship” between a man and woman over “differences” that leads to either a loving conversation, or a hateful one. Are we assuming that the Iranian leadership wants nuclear war as well? Are they unwilling to discuss the options?
Humm. I wonder.
Fact Check–The only fact we have on Justin Everett is he gave money to Beauprez, the empty suit, a man who’d be a Democrat if the farm was in Oregon. Kopp did not give money to Beauprez.
Voyageur,
I may not agree with your all of your reasoning on Bush (I voted against him for your reason and then some) but may I just say, I do love the fact that you can make your case in less than 1,000 words and with well stated, thought provoking comments.
Patriot, please take a lesson from him. Brevity is the soul of wit (and more than likely, intelligence.)
Scooter McLawyer-Lobbyist endorsed bro-in-law Matti Smith over boy-wonder Joshbert, and Matti won at assembly. Poor Josh. Please remember him in your prayers.
Voy-
I’ll concede your first point on Bush, diversity in the cabinet. Otherwise I think: WORSE EVER. I do not think history will be kind on him.
JoshPenryisGOD-you are so damn funny, oh my God. Please stop everything and become a comedian right now. Oh I know you could warm up the crowd with your comedy routine, Scott could follow with his football analogies; the Geritol crowd (Matt’s supporters) would love it!!
Why Iraq Was a Mistake
A military insider sounds off against the war and the “zealots” who pushed it
By LIEUT. GENERAL GREG NEWBOLD (RET.)
Posted Sunday, Apr. 09, 2006
Two senior military officers are known to have challenged Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on the planning of the Iraq war. Army General Eric Shinseki publicly dissented and found himself marginalized. Marine Lieut. General Greg Newbold, the Pentagon’s top operations officer, voiced his objections internally and then retired, in part out of opposition to the war. Here, for the first time, Newbold goes public with a full-throated critique:

RomeFell: I’ll be there. Will you be wearing a tunic or the more formal toga?
Two items:
First, where is the “Indiana Ocean” that Patriot proposed? Does that surround the country of Oblivion where the right wing economists reside?
Second, I have to disagree with Serf T – I think Bush will not be the worst president ever – just third worst.
Back in the day when Scooter was boss and Joshbert was a mere lad, QB and all that (GO MAVS!), I use to watch McLawyer-Lobbyist rally the blue hairs to a fervor, red-faced scooter talking of the injustice…sputter…the injustice…sputter…of a WILDERNESS BILL for HIS district that HE didn’t introduce…sputter (blue hairs in frenzy…), introduced by a…gasp!…Congresswoman from…hold on friends…DENVER. (Some blue hairs are fainting at this point, fancy Republican Women hats all a titter).
Now Scooter’s a shill for a Calagary oil and gas company come to extract natural gas owned by the American public, and ship it off to Chicago and Malibu, profits funneled off to Canada…
But at least he got a National Conservation Area named after him…
that’s interesting david, but he’s still got 3 yrs. so we’ll see. at the rate he’s going…
Becky—Yes, I’ll be recognizable because I are one.
Many in the military HATE Rummy and his chicken-hawk neocon cronies. Look what Rummy/Bush have done. A shame really. Lost respect with our friends and allies, over-estended military, stuck in a civil war. I feel bad for our troops.
David —
If you don’t know where Seychelles IS, then you have missed out on knowing one of the heavenly places in the world. However, in my fast typing, I added an unintentional “a” at the end. Seychelles is located in the southern hemisphere, in the Indian Ocean.
GaryHarmonsBaby —
I agree, it is yet another sad testimony with a world that cannot find “peaceful” alternatives to war and the mass murder of innocent civilians. We all should be ashamed that we have not found the cure for such animalistic behavior. Frankly, it causes a wonder to the civil minds, to watch those who are so filled with hatred, that they revel at the beheadings and in explosions that mame and kill without any conscience, all for the sake of “winning?” I fail to understand where anyone wins in war. War only begets more war, more hatred, more revenge.
Our next door neighbors are in Iraq, sometimes we forget that fact.
Looks like Bobby B didn’t stick around for the Pueblo County GOP Assembly–not even after getting their central committee to move the site of the assembly from East High School to CSU-Pueblo so he could land his heli.
