Remember when GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz called Donald Trump “an horrific choice for this country,” a “pathological liar,” and “utterly amoral?”
As CNN reports today, forget all that!
Ted Cruz endorsed Donald Trump for the presidency Friday afternoon, a stunning turn of events after a contentious primary filled with nasty personal attacks and a dramatic snub at the Republican National Convention.
“After many months of careful consideration, of prayer and searching my own conscience, I have decided that on Election Day, I will vote for the Republican nominee, Donald Trump,” Cruz wrote in a Facebook post.
“A year ago, I pledged to endorse the Republican nominee, and I am honoring that commitment. And if you don’t want to see a Hillary Clinton presidency, I encourage you to vote for him.”
Cruz’s highly belated endorsement of Donald Trump is raising eyebrows among his supporters and the larger “NeverTrump” movement within the Republican Party, with many calling it a sacrifice of principle for political expediency. On the other hand, Cruz’s endorsement of Trump could do much to calm the lingering discord within the Colorado Republican Party, which has been riven with infighting ever since Cruz swept Colorado’s RNC delegates in the GOP state assembly process.
But above all, Cruz boarding the Trump Train robs Trump triangulator Rep. Mike Coffman of his cover. There’s no question that Cruz’s problems with Trump, both personal and on a policy level, were far greater than anything Coffman has cited. Coffman has also promised to back the GOP nominee. Will rank-and-file Republicans in CD-6 tolerate Coffman’s Trump temporization until Election Day, or is a backfire now much more likely?
Either way, we’re pretty sure Coffman didn’t plan for this development.

It's true that Coffman miscalculated. I think we all expected Trump to flame out, and now that he has a second wind Coffman is in trouble.
Coffman is not in trouble.
He is running against a light weight and it will not be close just like 2 years ago.
Morgan Carroll is a formidable foe. But it is foolish to think voters will vote for or against Coffman because of Donald Trump. Taking on Coffman for his birtherism makes much more sense, as well as his horrible bungling on the VA hospital.
Perhaps Ted will sit down with his dad for an interview by the National Enquirer (the newspaper of record for the deplorables) and explain how he made his decision to support Trump.
I think it is moot for Coffman.
He needs the national GOP way less than Rafael (I am running for POTUS in 2020, starting now) Cruz.
The Koch Brothers™ hate Drumpf™. Mike owes his soul to the company store.
If Mike loses, then he won't need the national GOP.
If Mike wins, then he won't need the national GOP.
Dave:
Cruz's problem is not so much with the national GOP. He is trailing Rick Perry in polling for his Senate seat up in 2018. The anti-Trumpsters are wilting as they see Hillary wilting and they don't want to be left behind.
I actually believed Cruz had too much integrity to endorse a sociopath who smeared his father and his wife. Wrong again. Potomac fever is a terrible thing. My West Point years branded "Duty, Honor, Country" into my soul. The honor part seems expendable to Cruz.
When he opined about "on bended knee" Rafael didn't realize it would also entail kissing a ring…
I've never considered Cruz to have much integrity at all, at least as a national politician. He follows in the footsteps of his father, a far right wing fundamentalist Christian preacher.
Hate to say it; especially as much as I dislike corrupt Donald; Trump is far preferable to Cruz as the nominee.
The apple didn't fall far from the tree…
It's worth remembering that only some of the Colorado GOP rejected Trump because he was a bigot or a con man; the rest rejected Trump because they thought he was too liberal, not socially conservative enough, a closet Democrat.
As long as Cruz agonized over his decision to support a bigoted, sexist racist, homophobe, who has made comments offensive to Jews, the disabled, veterans, who has been accused of raping a 13 year old while attending a party at the home of a convicted pedophile I shouldn't lose any respect for Cruz.
Note the triple negative in that quote. I don't think that remark means what Mr. Cruz thinks it means.
I read it to mean exactly the opposite of his apparent intent….
