After reviewing a recent diary that has since been removed, I wanted to follow up the discussion with a revamped posting, keeping with Pols’ policies.
A local blogging team has been busy working for Joe Whitcomb, a candidate running against Sen. Shawn Mitchell. Not surprisingly, each blogger has his/her own vapor trail of other postings that can be embarrasing for his/her candidate.
Take Whitcomb’s law school buddy and campaign staffer Nuriel Heckler. In a recent rant…er posting, Heckler, a confessed white male, states, “Many groups have the right to feel enraged by discrimination. White men are not one of them. We should feel responsible.” To view all of his comments click here.
White males should be responsible? Are Whitcomb and his staff going to tell the vast majority of voters in the Northern Suburbs and southwest Weld County that they should feel responsible for discrimination? In fairness, earlier in that same posting, Heckler doesn’t necessarily blame the white males because, “White people have been surrounded by privilege for so long that they don’t even realize that they are privileged anymore.” Fascinating.
Heckler further elaborated on his extreme views in his blog rightbedone.blogspot.com. At last view, his blog had since been removed. Clearly, he’s not ashamed of his postings? Is this a recognition that his written views could hurt Whitcomb? I would assume the answer is yes.
That’s the fun of the internet and someone with a unique name. These postings are still out there and easy to find. In probably one of Heckler’s proudest moments, he was quoted in the New York Post saying,
“‘We don’t feel military action will stop terrorism, but it will lead
to racism and hate,’ said sophomore Nuriel Heckler.” Didn’t Whitcomb serve in the military? Was he one of the ones spreading racism and hate or was that other people?
In reality, these beliefs don’t seem to be far off from Whitcomb’s own views. In shopping for a district to move into, Whitcomb found one where some have labeled Mitchell as too conservative. Apparently, Whitcomb is looking to counteract that by being ultra-liberal. Problem is, the district leans conservative, and family oriented. While the district voted down the marijuana initaitive with over 65% of the vote, Whitcomb decided to cozy up to Mason Tvert (see Whitcomb’s latest campaign finance report). While close to half the district is comprised of white males, Whitcomb decided to bring on the white male haters.
As Whitcomb continues to mature during the campaign, will it be enough for a victory in November?
