Rep. Jason Crow Slams Trump For Calling J6 Insurrectionists "Warriors," "Victims"

Rep. Jason Crow comforts a fellow House Member during the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th.

HuffPost’s Igor Bobic reports, though by now you might have already seen the video:

Former President Donald Trump heaped praise on Jan. 6 insurrectionists as “warriors” over the weekend and falsely stated that police officers welcomed them into the U.S. Capitol during the 2021 riot.

“They were warriors but they were really more than anything else — they’re victims of what happened,” Trump, who is now a convicted felon, said at a rally in Las Vegas on Sunday…

Trump also falsely claimed police officers urged hundreds of his supporters to storm the Capitol by telling them, “Go in, go in, go in, go in.”

“What a setup that was,” he added.

Key to rehabilitating ex-President Donald Trump to run for President again has been the steadily escalating campaign to rewrite the history of the January 6th, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol that sought by design to disrupt the certification of Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election. Republicans like Mitch McConnell who once had the backbone to state otherwise have meekly folded and endorsed Trump’s re-election, and every Republican running for office in 2024 either has had to or soon will have to adopt their own version of the whitewashing of January 6th: from Trump’s complete fictionalization of those events to Rep. Gabe Evans’ whataboutism, morally equating the 2020 civil rights protests with the attempt to overturn a legitimate presidential election by force.

One Democrat who’s not having this intensifying campaign of revisionist history is Colorado’s Rep. Jason Crow, who was on MSNBC yesterday discussing newly disclosed footage from January 6th that includes congressional leadership trying desperately to get National Guard support to regain control of the U.S. Capitol Building:

CROW: It’s just a stark reminder for everybody about the chaos, the brutality, the violence of that day. You know we can’t forget what happened, we can’t forget the fragility sometimes of our our system. You know, we were very close to having a full-blown overturning of the election, this was an insurrection, there was no other way to classify it, that mob of insurrectionists trying to overturn a legitimate lawful election. They did so at the request of Donald Trump, and we cannot forget that. I know there’s a lot of things competing for people’s attention right now, people are raising families, building businesses, doing really important stuff across the entire country, but again let’s not forget that there are moments when our democracy is at risk. And we’re in one of those moments still.

The January 6th Select Committee investigation was carried out over the objections of most Republicans for the express purpose of establishing the historical record of what happened, fully anticipating that this history would be challenged not just by Trump but every Republican who was complicit in helping Trump contest the results of the 2020 presidential election. With Trump back in total control of the Republican Party, the November 2024 election is the last chance to ensure that the violence of January 6th, 2021 is not rewarded with another term in the White House. A Trump victory in November would normalize what happened that day more powerfully than any disagreement over the facts.

And that’s why Rep. Jason Crow is so animated. This presidential election is a referendum on truth itself, and it’s a truth Jason Crow experienced firsthand.

  1. This post didn't get the attention it deserved. Crow is an awesome elected representative who was in Congress on January 6th and is a first hand witness to the events. Good for him to call out the language that Republicans use to describe these thugs and brown shirts.

    1. This is what the election is all about. If you know the truth about January 6th you understand that Trump can never be allowed near the levers of power again. That's why rewriting the history of January 6th is so important to them.
