Lauren Boebert's Stunning January 6th Denialism: Roll Tape

  • by: Colorado Pols

We took note yesterday of an interview conducted by far-right pseudonews talking head Grant Stinchfield of Colorado’s foremost MAGA cheerleader Rep. Lauren Boebert following ex-President Donald Trump’s indictment on criminal charges related to the attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election and the January 6th, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol to disrupt the certification of Joe Biden’s victory. A clip from this interview featured Boebert reciting the same thoroughly discredited case that Trump should still be President she was making in the days leading up to January 6th.

Then the subject in this interview inevitably turned to the events of January 6th with Stinchfield making no secret of his laudatory views of both Trump and the rioters. In this friendly environment, Rep. Boebert let her true feelings be known–and they’re nothing short of jaw-dropping:

BOEBERT: Well really it was more of an escorted tour into the Capitol, [Pols emphasis] um, we saw these January 6th tapes that were released once Speaker McCarthy became Speaker, and released those, and we see Capitol Police that are, um, allowing people um access to the Capitol, uh to the Senate chambers, uh and so this is (giggling) more of an escorted tour than anything…

Boebert is of course referring to cherrypicked footage from January 6th assembled by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson in his discredited and at least partially career-ending attempt to whitewash the violence that occurred that day. Once the estimated 2,000 rioters had flooding the U.S. Capitol, it’s true some police worked to redirect the rioters peacefully–but the idea that those anecdotal moments somehow cancel out the violence committed smashing their way into the building is beyond ludicrous.

The best way to illustrate this is with the video that Tucker Carlson didn’t cherrypick:

We joke about Boebert’s tenuous-at-best grasp of the issues she was elected to advocate for on behalf of her constituents, but this is not a story of Boebert’s incompetence or inability to understand the basic facts. Boebert was in the building on January 6th, actually Tweeting about being locked in the House chambers–and knows perfectly well that her characterization of the violence on January 6th, 2021 as an “escorted tour” is a lie of the highest order.

Boebert is not the only Republican trying to rewrite the history of Trump’s attempt to remain in power despite losing the 2020 election, but she could be the most electorally vulnerable Republican not just publicly stanning for Trump but still reciting 2020’s discredited conspiracy theories.

Trump is going to trial over the 2020 election in part to ensure the historical record accurately reflects the terrible events that Trump was responsible for while trying to pull one over on American democracy. The fragility of our democratic institutions revealed by Trump’s coup attempt makes it of central importance to our country’s future that there be real accountability for what happened.

And if that’s true for Trump, it must be true for his lying enablers. There can be no more presumption of ignorance. Beating the “Big Lie,” now more than ever, means beating Lauren Boebert.

  1. Boebert was quoting Trump. Trump called for the January 6th protest to be peaceful.

That may not fit with the Official Party History but it happens to be true. Nothing is as simple as it seems.

    1. Yes, that's how I interpret "We fight like hell. And if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore" as well! Almost like Gandhi.

    2. Nothing says peaceful like browbeating your VP into doing your bidding and having a mob chanting "Hang Mike Pence" when he doesn't.

Thanks nutlid.  I ALMOST forgot how stupid and pathetic you are.  Now, you just have to make another prediction that ages terribly.

      1. I'm old enough to remember when Moderatus was freaking out about Trump and was supporting Jeb!

        No, make that Marco Rubio.

        No, make that Ted Cruz.

        No, make that John Kasich.

And finally, acceptance was the answer, he made his peace, drank the Kool-aid, and became a full fledged MAGAdonian.

        1. He should be freaked out about all of these guys now.  The of the top two, one is thrice indicted and arraigned, the other is letting his Nazi Freak Flag Fly, being all-around weird and tanking his own campaign.  The remainder of them can't get any oxygen.

    3. Moddy…Boobert wasn't quoting Trump, but if she was quoting Trump, she's a confirmed liar, because Trump is a pathological liar, and she quoted him knowing full-well of his hourly stream of bull butter.  Boobert's still facing the impending hammer set to drop Nov 2024 or before.  The looming question is clear…who got the BJ that caused her to miss the debt ceiling vote.

  2. These wingnut morons gotta come up with a consistent narrative.

Was it brave patriots risking their live to save the nation they love?

Was it a sightseeing excursion that featured a few irrepressible scamps who got a little out of hand?

Was it an Antifa/BLM false flag?

    Was it a floor wax?

    Was it a dessert topping?

All or some combination of the above?

  3. Does she actually think America doesn’t remember what happened on 1/6/21? I know there’s playing to your base, but even most of her base surely knows this was no “guided tour.” (They think it was an FBI staged event.)

  4. Step back from the indefensible (and wearisome) denial for a moment and consider this question — Is this a winning strategy to re-election in this district now? Basically Boebert has put all her chips on one draw —  running as a single issue candidate: Vote for me because I will always have Trump's back.

CD3 went to Trump by 5.5% in 2020.  We also have a re-drawn district map.  Do we know where that stands now? Or where Trump support is polling there? It seems that Dems have been successful focusing on local issues rather than partisan rhetoric. Boebert is leaving that path wide open.

But maybe none of that matters – maybe this is really her audition for post-election media personality job. All of us have to endure the noise, and  Dems have to stay on task to win the election.

        1. I dunno'?  I think given the choice even Moddy would still choose his Kleenex box. (Fluffy's gotta' get something right sometime.)

    1. At the conclusion of the Congressional reapportionment, my recollection was the commission's analysis said the eight state-wide races would have had an something over a 9 point lean to Republicans.  Roll Call, looking at the prospects for the 2022 midterm, said Donald Trump would have carried the new seat by 8 points.
