Even More Felony Charges For Colorado Coup Plotters Jenna Ellis, John Eastman

Jenna Ellis, John Eastman.

As the Washington Post’s Yvonne Wingett Sanchez reports, a grand jury in our neighboring state of Arizona has returned felony indictments against a number of members of former President Donald Trump’s “Elite Strike Force” legal team, which plotted the overturning of the 2020 elections in multiple states including in Georgia where felony convictions in a broad racketeering case that includes Trump personally have already been meted out.

The indictments issued yesterday in Arizona don’t include Trump personally, but the subordinates now in the hot seat are names our readers know very, very well:

An Arizona grand jury on Wednesday indicted seven attorneys or aides affiliated with Donald Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign as well as 11 Arizona Republicans on felony charges related to their alleged efforts to subvert Joe Biden’s 2020 victory in the state, according to an announcement by the state attorney general.

Those indicted include former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, attorneys Rudy Giuliani, Jenna Ellis, John Eastman and Christina Bobb, top campaign adviser Boris Epshteyn and former campaign aide Mike Roman. They are accused of allegedly aiding an unsuccessful strategy to award the state’s electoral votes to Trump instead of Biden after the 2020 election. Also charged are the Republicans who signed paperwork on Dec. 14, 2020, that falsely purported Trump was the rightful winner, including former state party chair Kelli Ward, two state senators and Tyler Bowyer, a GOP national committeeman and chief operating officer of Turning Point Action, the campaign arm of the pro-Trump conservative group Turning Point USA.

Trump was not charged, but he is described in the indictment as an unindicted co-conspirator…

Former Weld County traffic attorney and ex-Colorado Christian University law professor Jenna Ellis is already facing a renewed threat to her Colorado law license under a complaint filed with state attorney regulators after Ellis’ guilty plea to a felony charge in the Georgia election interference case last October. Ellis has already been censured by the state for her “at least reckless” false statements while on the clock as an attorney for Trump. Fellow Trump coup plotter and ex-University of Colorado conservative scholar John Eastman, in the latter stages of being disbarred by the state of California, has less to lose now notwithstanding possible jail time–but unlike Ellis has remained totally unrepentant while his career has been steadily dismantled since January 6th, 2021.

But the Colorado connections to these indictments don’t end there! Readers will recall that now-indicted Trump lawyer Boris Epshteyn served as an advisor to Heidi Ganahl’s campaign for governor in 2022. And Trump attorney Christina Bobb, recently hired by the Republican National Committee to be their “election integrity” lawyer, was a keynote speaker at the Colorado Republican Party’s state assembly earlier this month, enthusiastically spreading the “Big Lie” as the Colorado Times Recorder’s Heidi Beedle reported from the scene:

“It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to realize the election was stolen in 2020,” said Bobb, to enthusiastic cheers from the Colorado delegates and party members. “Donald Trump won that.”

Well folks, now Bobb gets to, as they say, tell it to the judge. Although the “Big Lie” plays well at Republican assemblies with no fact-checking present, as former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters can tell you, in a court of law it holds up like a snowball in a blast furnace.

Ellis has already learned this lesson the hard way, and unlike the rest of these defendants has no loyalty remaining to Trump. That’s why we’ll be watching for her swift plea deal, even if Rudy Giuliani, Eastman and the rest of the Trump loyalists go down with the ship.

And then…maybe more charges in more states. Each state line marks a chance to do a new crime.
