  1. Speaking of easy things, as the daily quote from Mr. Buffett does:

    [Mike] Johnston made big promises to turn Denver into the best city in the United States. He pledges to end homelessness in his first term by building 1,400 tiny homes and converting motels to shelters. He says he will build 25,000 units of new housing, focusing on the missing middle. To address public safety, he will hire more cops and social workers and provide young people with more after-school programs.

    He has touted that each of his campaign promises are specific and that he has a way to pay for them.

    1. It's fairly predictable based on historical evidence that campaign promises run into buzzsaws of reality at some point. This for Johnston might include finite budgets for hiring, land availability for housing, and community opposition to given projects. But I think he'll make advances on a lot of what he mentioned in the paragraph you posted.

      But, please do wake me on that day when any of our zealots ever stumble upon that god/child of god who wants us to move things forward, improve conditions for our fellow humans, and temper our actions with care, decency, humility, and respect (instead of dragging us back to some imagined rose-colored halcyon era of dominations, slaveries, and burnt offerings).

      I spose' I'd be OK if she owned a (free range) chicken restaurant . . . 

      2. My favorite parable that is apparently missing from the American evangelical bible:

        “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

    3. I didn’t watch the canned video but I did make the mistake of watching part of his speech in Iowa while eating lunch.

      He name dropped quite a bit:  Trump, Biden, Biden, Trump.

      So he’s coming out swinging. At least per the written word in the Gospel According to Mother.

      PS I almost didn’t recognize him without his black fly on his white hair.

  3. Anti Woke Centrism. Perry Bacon at WaPo.

    Interesting editorial on CNN’s efforts to distance itself from “wokism”.

    Licht’s comments embody an anti-woke centrism that is increasingly prominent in American media and politics today, particularly among powerful White men who live on the coasts and don’t identify as Republicans or conservatives. It’s deeply flawed, and it’s pushing some important U.S. institutions to make bad decisions.

    There can and should be open debate about police reform, diversity, covid-19 policies and other issues — both between the two parties and among progressives and other non-Republicans. But when we have a left that is pushing America to finish the work of the 1960s and create a true multicultural democracy and a right that is banning Black intellectual ideas from public schools, it’s a huge mistake for powerful non-Republicans in society to spend so much time bashing the left. This anti-woke centrism often sounds as though people are auditioning to be today’s version of the “white moderates” the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. castigated six decades ago.

    1. That means it's time for another yuge and bigley fundraising pitch directed at the MAGAdorians.

      I hope the feds require him to wear an ankle monitor if he is released on bail.

  5. At least Magadonia’s Mistress of Defense didn’t confuse D-Day with the Great Battle of Lake Travis Dumbkirk.

      1. There oughta’ be a law banning numbering world wars (and all the christian books in the holy American bible) with those woke foreign Roman numerals, instead of our great American 1s, 2s, and 3s.

        PS — Love the twisted sense of humor (i.e., extolling selflessness) of whoever ghostwrote that tweet for Dimbert.

    2. "It is understood" …. by who? 

      The anonymously sourced prediction apparently is only an "understanding".  I guess that makes it a tacit implication from an unnamed person (or two) willing to communicate with the reporter.
