Sweet Irony: The Snob Productions "Coverup"

  • by: Colorado Pols

As the Grand Junction Sentinel’s Charles Ashby reports deadpan:

Snob Productions in Grand Junction has worked numerous political events in the region for years.

But former Gov. Mitt Romney’s town hall event Tuesday was the first time a candidate’s campaign had asked owner David Wall to shield his company’s logo from public view. [Pols emphasis]

As a result, logos on the company’s trucks were masked and company workers wore something other than their company-issued T-shirts…

“I wouldn’t say it was because they didn’t like the name, it had more to do with proper media coverage staying focused on the right place,” said Wall, who formed the company at 2511 Filmore Ave. in 2000.

…Wall wasn’t directly told why the company was asked to cover its name, he suspected it might have been either because the campaign doesn’t want to appear to be endorsing any company or because of criticism Romney has received for being wealthy, having numerous homes and riding dressage horses.

The fact is, Snob Productions really is one of the best event stage service outfits available, and a great choice for A/V for any event in the Grand Valley. All things being equal, we agree it’s a memorable business name and a witty description of what they by all accounts do very well. Click the logo above to visit their site. Owner David Wall tells the Sentinel that it was no problem to comply with the Romney campaign’s request, because they aim to please.

And yes, folks, Romney’s the one who looks silly here. It’s of course not Romney’s fault that the best stage company in Grand Junction is named “Snob Productions,” but once he makes the decision to have them cover it up, he creates a punchline where there was none.

Or maybe the punchline was inevitable, but he definitely made it worse.

  1. than it would have been if someone snapped a pic of Rmoney with that logo visible anywhere in the photo. That would be another great internet meme doing him no good whatsoever.

OTOH, I don’t see this story biting him at all. It won’t have any legs.

    1. Along with the ‘dog on the car’, ‘outsourcing’, ‘Romney hates firefighters’, and ‘Ann Romney is a loser for owning horses’ memes, you guys have been ON FIRE lately.

            1. I’m sure they would if they could.  It’s just so wrong of some people to have the unmitigated gaul to earn more money than others.

              You guys should fix that!

              1. The unfair way in which he (and most wealthy) people earn their money is very much an issue. But the dressage thing is more about how the Romneys are unable to relate to real working Americans. It may not be fair, but then again neither was swiftboating Kerry.

                1. I’m sure he doesn’t brag about that these days.  Maybe it helps him check up on his Swiss accounts.  French is one of their languages.

          1. which is that all of these wounds are self-inflicted not Dem inflicted. Republicans take advantage of every self inflicted Dem wound, don’t they? So why the smug self righteousness?

You can skip the high horse routine and I mean that as no insult to Ann Romney or the sport of dressage. Although it would be nice if the Romney’s showed any concern for helping others access any level of decent health care at all, much less dressage, which I’m perfectly prepared to admit should not be considered a God given right, so please don’t bother to remount.

            1. under an Rmoney Administration US citizens will finally be guaranteed unfettered access to all of the full range of dressage treatments they can afford.”

Rmoney, a man for all the people . . .

        1. Ashby also writes that Snob worked at the Obama campaign event at Cross Orchards in 2008 and was asked to move the truck away from television cameras. However, no one asked that the logo be covered up.

I can see how the word “snob” would send chills down the spines of any campaign staff, regardless of candidate or party.

        1. It’s actually pretty accurate, IMO, you just happen to disagree.

Do you have evidence that any of these attacks are moving any polling significantly?  I guess that would have been a less “trolly” way to put it forth, if that helps you.

ALso – I seem to be missing my handbook – could you give me the chapter where it says I’m supposed to refrain from snark as an FPE?
