I still can’t see

Why Democracy means

Everybody but me.

  1. I see yesterday’s advocacy diary … call the paper, call the Guv, etc….

Maybe below Pols could insert a poll on should the Guv make a call on Gay Marriage and scone maybe the bloggers could discuss the merits or the Guv making such a call?

    1. Look again. It asks the Governor to call a Special Session. And if he does, this time maybe, the Republicans will remember they placed their hand on a Bible and swore to uphold the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Colorado. They didn’t place their hands on the Constitutions and swear to uphold the Bible.

        1. Some things never change, like how “conservatives”, or “republicans”, or whatever you call that slimy subset of humanity that actually revels in bad news for others, like those they consider some how “less”.

We survived 8 years of that smirky, mean spirited “Heh, heh, heh” giggle by Bush. We’ll get Civil Unions passed.

Just another reason to be involved tonight.

          1. that both major political parties have problems, but let me say this: there is one political party who, across the board, consistently votes against basic human rights of women, children, the elderly, the poor, members of the lgbt community, people of color, immigrants, and everyone who is not straight, white, rich, male, and Christian. It’s the Republican party. Please give to the Colorado Democratic Party, please. We can and will, defeat them — every one of them — in the fall. http://www.coloradodems.org/

            1. As this issue becomes more and more about whole parties, with no consideration for any differing part (unless I don’t understand what “across the board” means), I’m reminded that there was no civil union legislation introduced in 2007, 2008, 2009, or 2010.

Will you be working to defeat all remaining members of those legislatures as well? And will you be rescinding support for sitting elected officials who are soft on equality? How about Presidents?

    1. HD 40 is a big one. John Buckner has a great chance of taking down Acree. The district is suddenly balanced evenly between parties after reapportionment.

    2. both House and Senate.  The Dem Senate Campaign Fund and the House Majority Project should blast this info out all over the state, get local Dems motivated to retain Dem legislators and flip some Republican Districts.

    3. There are aren’t that many Republican incumbents who are in trouble. In the House, Acree is probably the biggest one. Barker is another. Actually, the Democrats have the most vulnerable incumbents in Kagan, Lee, and Young in the House and Newell and Hudak in the Senate.

The opportunities for the Dems to pick up seats are in the open districts where there are either Republicans who are term-limited or retiring, or reapportionment created a brand new district that didn’t have a sitting rep. This is where the math favors the Dems. It’s not going to be a cake walk, but they also only have to flip one seat total to take back the majority.

You can visit the reapportionment commission’s website to see the maps for the new Senate and House districts with political data that can give you an idea about the district’s competitiveness.

  2. Say What?

“If General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye.”

    — Mitt Romney, 2008

“Bailout of enterprises that are in trouble, that’s not the way to go. I know President Bush started it with the auto industry. I thought it was a mistake.”

    — Mitt Romey, 2009

“I pushed the idea of a managed bankruptcy, and finally when that was done, and help was given, the companies got back on their feet. So, I’ll take a lot of credit for the fact that this industry has come back.”

    — Mitt Romney, 2012

    1. This guy’s the most directionless candidate they’ve EVER put up!

Talk about lack of conviction, no spine, say anything, completely gutless.

Really, at least Bush had a hard edge to him. He was clueless, but he did have some grounding in what he considered principles.

      Kind of.

And like it or not, he used circumstances and got stuff done.

Anybody that supports this guy doesn’t even have a reason to support him, because Romney’s got no core!

      What a fraud!

      1. applied only to what Rom says.  It should now be clear that it applies to what’s in his brain, too.  Etch-A-Sketch ROM — love it.

        1. was asked what Romney’s stand on immigration reform was she had to pretty much say she really had no idea.  Seems he hasn’t come up with one yet. Remember when he said he hadn’t had time to look into the situation in Afghanistan?  Apparently, all these years he’s been running for president he still hasn’t gotten around to, you know, thinking about stuff.  He has no discernable views except that whatever Obama is for he’s against and whatever Obama does, it’s wrong.  If there were no Obama, would Romney even exist?

  3. This is where the party is headed

“I have a mindset that says bipartisanship ought to consist of Democrats coming to the Republican point of view,” Mourdock said on Fox, according to Politico. “You know, I’ve said many times through this campaign that one of the things I hope to do is to help build a conservative majority in the United States Senate and continue to help the House build a Republican majority and have a Republican White House and then bipartisanship becomes having Democrats come our way. So that’s what we’re working towards and I think in the days ahead, Mr. Lugar will join our effort.”

  4. Senator Lugar is out- defeated by a member of his former party, Nuggets beat the Lakers in LA,  Michelle Bachman has become Socialist Swiss, price of oil is down, Fannie Mae profit is up,  don’t they all realize that civli unions didn’t pass and it’s not end times?

  5. The good citizens of North Carolina passed Amendment 1 outlawing same sex marriage as a matter of constitutional mandate. I assume that a boycott of North Carolina is in the works somewhere in the LGBT community. I certainly don’t expect that LGBT organizations that live the “veal pen” to say or do much.

The Democratic National Committee should admit their mistake in siting the national convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. Move the convention. It may be late but it can still be done.

BTW: Obama is being interviewed by ABC News as I write this.

    1. That article would instead say, “Democrats are going to lose every seat, Polis is doomed, DeGette is doomed, and there will probably be a recall on Hickenlooper, and then they’ll outlaw the Democratic party! I heard it on talk radio!”

Carville doesn’t sound anything like you. You’re all doom and gloom, all the time. Plus Carville has a sense of humor.

      1. I share Carville’s opinion that Democrats are complacent and that that complacency endangers the 2012 election.

As I predicted, you attacked me, the “messenger,” by attributing to me statements I did not make. It is very important to you and other Republicans that the Democrats remain complacent. Hence, your attempt to ridicule me after a vicious personal attack failed.

I link to Carville so that others may hear his opinion.

        1. You said something stupid about me, so I replied by ridiculing you. If that’s what you have to do to get a prediction to come true, so be it. Why don’t you add that to your little list? Maybe it will cancel out your prediction that Tancredo would win.

Nothing’s infinite except the universe and the size of your persecution complex.

    2. You can shoot five Bin Ladens, you can save 10,000 banks and 20 car companies, even pass the most sweeping legislation in modern American history; if people don’t think that you are connected to their lives and are fighting for their interests they will vote your tush out of office in a nano-second. For historical reference see Winston Churchill election of 1945 and President George H.W. Bush in 1992.

No Republicans don’t care about jobs. But the Democrats in Washington don’t appear to either. And that’s a major problem.

    1. I can’t say I’ve never been prouder to say those words — Inauguration day comes to mind — but I’m pretty proud to type them today.

        1. Freaking unreal one two punch delivered by Obama and Hickenlooper.  I know the term has been much overused lately, but they both just planted their feet squarely on the right side of history.

Leadership, right there, for everyone to see.  Damn I feel good. Really good.
