House District 33 was one of the most heavily-contested seats in Colorado in 2010, with Republican Don Beezley narrowly defeating incumbent Democrat Dianne Primavera.
Earlier this month Beezley unexpectedly announced that he would not seek another term. That decision, combined with reapportionment changes that have altered the district lines, helped convince Primavera to make another go at the seat in 2012. Full press release after the jump…
Dianne Primavera to Seek House District 33 Seat
“I know what it means to survive in tough times, and I will provide the leadership we need to create jobs and prepare our kids to compete in a 21st century global economy.”
BROOMFIELD, CO-Dianne Primavera (D-Broomfield), a former State Representative, small business owner, breast cancer survivor, and mother of two daughters announced her candidacy for House District 33 today. Primavera brings a proven record of fighting for regular Colorado families and against the special interests, while partnering with Democrats and Republicans alike to find solutions to issues facing Colorado.
“Regular Coloradans are working hard to make ends meet, but they are struggling in a tough economy and against politicians more concerned with scoring political points than getting things done for Colorado,” said Primavera. “I know what it means to survive in tough times, and it is time our community once again had a leader who stepped up to work on the things that really matter to Coloradans, creating jobs and preparing our kids to compete in a 21st century global economy.”
Dianne Primavera ran her own business, and has worked in the field of disability, employment and health care for more than 40 years. Prior to being elected, she gained national, state, and local recognition for her work on behalf of the citizens of Colorado, including the Governor’s Peak Performance Award for Citizen Satisfaction, given annually to one outstanding state employee.
After her first session in the legislature, Rep. Primavera received the Colorado Legislator Award from the Colorado Women’s Chamber and the Denver Women’s Commission for her work in health care. She was recognized by the American Cancer Society Great West Division for fighting cancer on the political front, and was named legislator of the year by the Colorado Nonprofit Association. She has a long history of volunteer and community service.
“I have survived extraordinary challenges and setbacks in my life, and I have persevered,” said Primavera. “But what’s important for Colorado is helping families persevere in this economy by making their state government work for them. ”
Primavera represented House District 33 in the Colorado House of Representatives until narrowly losing the seat in November 2010. Due to the recent reapportionment process, HD-33 boundaries have changed. The district now includes Broomfield, Superior and Erie. She currently sits on the board of the Denver Metro Susan G Komen Foundation and the 17th Judicial District’s Victims & Witness Assistance and Law Enforcement (VALE) board.

With a little gerrymandering, all that was old is new again!
Those gosh darn GOP recommended appointees will do anything to get more Dems elected, won’t they?
to Carrera. He’s way more off the wall the ArapaDOPE.
Go back to school. Beezley bailed. He’s afraid of what the people might say, and how they might vote. Some commitment to his district.
Why I think I may get the vapors seeing as how the Republicans will have to actually compete to get elected.
The district boundaries have changed, but it’s only about 1% more Democratic than last time around. (Of course, 1% is far more than Primavera would have needed to win in 2010…)
What’s a poor shill to do? Ah yes, just keep lying.
I contributed to Don Beezley back when I was a Republican – it may have been the worst contribution I have ever given
Of note, of anyone I have ever contributed to (which has been many) no one was more unthankful than Don Beezley
I plan to practice repentance by contributing to Dianne Primavera – unless there’s a primary, and in that case, I will contribute to the Democratic nominee, because we need better leadership in this district
I think everyone around here knows that, even if someone is a ‘Conservative,’ I’ll defend them, regardless of disagreement, if I believe they have quality character or are strong in convictions
I don’t feel that way about Don Beezley
Dianne is a savvy candidate and probably better known than her ultimate republican foe. Voters may knock incumbents in the abstract but tend to stick with them in practice, so Beezely’s withdrawal makes Dianne the favorite. Plus, the demographics of a presidential year should favor the Ds, who lost this seat ever so narrowly in the “Republican wave”.
