From The "Yeah, Right" Department

We didn’t want to miss this hilarious AP story from yesterday, noted for the record:

In response to criticism from an opponent, former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton says she believes Sarah Palin was not aware her Colorado visit would coincide with the state Republican primary assemblies.

Ken Buck said Monday on the “Cari and Rob” show on KRAI-AM that the former Alaska governor’s visit to Denver Saturday could draw attention away from this weekend’s assemblies, which Norton has declined to attend. Norton and Buck are seeking the GOP nomination for Senate.

Norton said Tuesday on the show she doesn’t assume Palin will endorse her and is not reaching out to Palin, but would welcome her endorsement…

Allow us to assert just a couple of things in advance of Saturday:

1. Sarah Palin knows perfectly well that the Republican state assembly is the same day as her appearance with Jane Norton, because she, or least somebody who works for her, lives on this planet. The whole story of her visit revolves around the state convention Saturday, more to the point Norton’s strategic need to upstage it. We are trying to figure out the value in denying something so patently obvious, and so far we’ve got nothing–maybe you can do better.

2. That Palin is going to endorse Norton Saturday, clearly moving to squelch any momentum that opponent Ken Buck seeks to gain from his expected victory at the GOP state convention, is now officially the worst-kept secret in Colorado politics since Westword’s “Top 25 Bill Owens Affair Rumors.” As with point #1, it seems downright silly to keep up this kind of pretense–far better to at least be coy about it instead of saying things people can’t possibly believe are true.

It’s clear that Norton is being firmly coached to smile and stick to the script, no matter what, but sometimes you’ve got to be able to ad-lib–like when the script becomes ridiculous.

  1. .

“… We are trying to figure out the value in denying something so patently obvious …”

Figure that one out and this blog loses a big chunk of its traffic.

    .

    1. Palin and Bachmann in MN drew a very large crowd; reportedly also raised in excess of 1MM. The crowd was largely women; therefore it would be foolhardy to discount her drawing/fundraising strength. Play up her gaffes, policies, etc., but it is ill advised to underestimate her strengths. Sounds like a pretty good campaign strategy.

        1. who went to high school with Norton, once described her as a “dumb-as-a-post cheerleader.”

It would not surprise me if Norton doesn’t know who Michelle Bachman is.

Never look for a conspiracy when stupidity is available as an excuse.

  2. So Palin feeds the split in the Republican Party on assembly day and McInnis has to figure out how drop the bird in hand and go for two in the bush.

The state Democrats will enjoy watching this tennis match.

  3. the average tea partier simply doesn’t notice that Palin keeps endorsing establishment candidates and goes right on worshipping her as the teabag goddess extraordinaire.

    1. ….kept voting for Bush and other Republicans who only gave lip service to their cause, although never actually, like, you know, doing something?

      1. … will age more poorly than Palin’s, unless Palin stops being a runner in 2011 while making the rounds at Iowa county fairs eating fried twinkies on a stick…

      1. … or did this hot tip come from “sources” that reside only in your head?  Please feel free to share more of your hot tips for us; we don’t get enough comedy on ColoradoPols!

          1. H, you’re pretty new here, but look up GOPwarrior’s comments and diaries; virtually all are like this — these are actual titles from several of his most recent posts):

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha liberal trash YOU LOSE

            Democrat “Integrity”

            Clowns

            Loser

So when he gets something as colossally wrong as this, I’m going to enjoy pointing out that his one post that, rather than justemptily  insulting “liberals,” purported to convey information (Palin endorsing Buck), was proven flat-out wrong just days later.

H-Man, I know that both you and he support Buck, but trust me, you don’t want to be in bed with him: your posts are serious commentary; he does only juvenile trash talk without saying anything of substance. Aligning yourself with him will just drag you down.

      2. It didn’t make sense to me, but alot of stuff in the world of politics sometimes doesn’t make sense.

I just thought the best Buck could hope for was her staying out of it given the strong relationship between McCain, Black and Palin.

Keep postin’.  We all make mistakes.

        1. Both Warrior and H-Man work FOR Buck. SO its even funnier that some of those volunteers actually thought Palin was going to help Buck.
