  1. “Anything can happen but not with Beeson as you (sic) opponent.”

if you can’t squeeze “your” into the line, why not make it as “your foe.”  As it is, youse guys look like BrooklynPols.

      1. for which many of us are thankful. McInnis does belong close to Ritter for the simple reason that he’s the stronger of the two GOP candidates in a general election. Scooter can pull some of the indies and perhaps even pick off a few moderate Dems in the process. Penry just pisses all Democrats off and indies won’t be attracted.

Denver will vote Democrat, just like El Paso and Mesa will vote Republican.

If I were Ritter, I’d be pulling for Penry to win the primary.

          1. Anybody who saw the guy during his 10 years in the legislature and 12 years in Congress knows he’s got a temper. It’s not as volcanic as Ben Campbell’s, but Scooter does have a hair trigger.

Maybe it comes as a surprise to Front Range Democrats, but they’re not going to vote for him anyway.

              1. Deep digging has been done with no results. Nothing found. I think it’s all rumor. Lori is a ranch kid from Meeker who would shoot any son of a bitch that went after her. Meeker girls are like that.

        1. All Penry has to do is open that big mouth of his and the GOP is screwed.

McInnis is a strong candidate I think people are underestimating him, which is good…for him.

  2. No way R wins in CD-2. The 2008 primary results will scare all serious primary challengers away. This is Jared’s seat for as long as he wants it as long as he stays scandal free.

And, a bit too tough/critical on AR campaign for Senate I think too.

Att. Gen incumbent should probably be closer to 5-1. If economy improves and democrats win Gov and Senate races then there is a good chance dem wins Att. Gen race as well.

    1. That 41.7% supermajority victory should terrify any serious potential challenger. As long as there are at least three candidates, Polis should expect to barely scrape by in any serious primary challenge, as long as he outspends everyone else combined by a factor of two.

      1. I was a Shafroth guy.

Yes, Jared had to use his personal fortune to win. But, he did win, despite most of labor and insiders supporting Joan and a serious, strong 20% for Will.

Now, Jared’s name recognition is high and he will have help inside and outside Washington if there is a primary challenge.

Sounds like you are still sore. Get over it. I did. No one collected more sigs than me(500)or put in more sweat, heart and tears. It took me a week to take down my iWill yard sign, but, it did come down. Jared has been visible in the community and has been a great representative. (small Denver Post comment slip and minor position difference with base on paying for HCare will not hurt him in 2010). Just calling it the way I see it. Nothing personal.

        1. although seriously, Will Shafroth? Really? As I recall, Ross Perot also got a serious, strong 20%, which didn’t make his whole candidacy and strategy look ridiculous either.

As for “you are still sore. Get over it. … Nothing personal,” that’s adorably incongruous. Nicely done.

In any case, Polis remains popular in a district full of people who are so pissed off at Republicans and nominal blue dogs that they don’t really care what their own Congressman does. Boulderites believe in homeopathy, for God’s sake, so it’s easy to see why any tiny bit of progressivism in their Congressman is enough to make them forget his lack of any progressive accomplishment.

Yet it’s still conceivable that an actual opponent might, I don’t know, remind people of Polis’ actual record. Conceivably it could have an effect on his popularity.

And what’s up with “Will,” “Jared,” and “Joan”? Show a little respect.

          1. I could have said the “Congressman” instead of Jared. And, I guess I could have said  “Assistant Deputy Secretary of Fish, Wildlife and Parks in the Interior Department” instead of Will and I guess I could have referred to Joan as the “Senator”. But, first names are so much easier, especially in this informal arena/Blog. I don’t mind my constituants addressing me by my first name. Generally, we all put our pants on the same way.

By the way, in a formal, public setting it would usually be Congressman Polis especially if he greeted me by my elected title first. If he said “hello XXXXX (first name), I would probably say hello Jared.

Good night sxp151. I am going to bed.

            1. “Polis,” “Shafroth,” and “Fitz-Gerald,” which seems like standard usage to me. I’ll use first names for people who post here regularly and with whom I’ve interacted, but that’s about it. Since Polis pretty much never engages in substantive discussion here, while Shafroth and Fitz-Gerald are essentially not here at all, it seems silly to pretend that any of them are our friends. Thus it always sounds to me like it’s patronizing to use their first names. Maybe I’m just too uptight.

              Sleep tight.

        2. ThortonDem – You’re a class act – well articulated without any defensiveness – Will Shafroth is lucky to have supporters like yourself

SX – I live in CD2 and most people refer to Congressman Polis as “Jared” simply because Jared has built A LOT of relationships – a lot of us feel like we know him, hence the first-name basis

          1. do you ever know what you’re talking about?

For someone who got offended when people used his first name to refer to him during his campaign, does it ever occur to you that people might think it’s bad practice generally?

Second, a mailer was released, I believe from Accountability For Colorado, which went at great lengths to emphasize my affiliation with Islam, as well as my first name being ‘Muhammad’ — to me, it was trying to incite scare tactics

          2. by the way, I have enjoyed reading your posts although you are registered the wrong way 🙂 Your right. Jared has done well reaching out to everyone letting them know that he is their representative regardless of party and regardless of who one might have supported during the 2008 primary. He has been a class act.

I was walking in a parade for Will in Dacono about a week before the votes were counted. Jared went out of his way to introduce me to a family member that was there campaigning with him. Jared was thoughtful and gracious then, and he remained gracious during his election victory. Now, as our Congressman, he has done well representing us.
