Once again, the representative of Colorado’s most culturally sleepy rural backwater Rep. Lauren Boebert, having traded the state’s picturesque Western Slope for the rolling depopulated prairie of the Eastern Plains, is making national celebrity gossip headlines after another embarrassing incident–this time outside the exclusive holiday party hosted by expelled, convicted, imprisoned, and then freed by the grace of Donald Trump former Rep. George Santos. TMZ reports, because this is the kind of news that TMZ reports:
Colorado congresswoman Lauren Boebert was looking to have a fun night out with her staff at George Santos’ holiday party in D.C. … but the vibe shifted quickly when her aides got bounced at the door…
Boebert and her crew pulled up to the swanky soirée — dubbed “Santos Claus” — on Tuesday night, and she seems shocked when several of her staffers were blocked from entering.
As the Daily Beast’s Cameron Adams reports, Santos has no pity for those not fabulous enough to make the list, which included all but Boebert and one staffer:
Santos, who was released from prison in October, bragged in a video on X before the event about how strict his door list was.
“See you at the party, and oh, if I don’t see you, that means you didn’t work hard enough. Bye.”
The story of Rep. Boebert not being in possession of sufficient juice to get her whole entourage past George Santos’ bouncer is mostly notable in the context of this being a sitting member of Congress trying to get into a swanky party hosted by a convicted felon–whose conviction was not erased by the mere commutation of Santos’ sentence instead of a full pardon by President Trump. Santos was elected to Congress based on a life story that turned out to be almost entirely fabricated, and shamelessly converted his congressional campaign into a source of personal income while ripping off donors who were naive enough to give Santos their credit card number. Though free we’re left to speculate about Santos’ current financial situation, since it’s unlikely Santos can afford to live the high life on Cameo gigs alone. Boebert herself regularly steps into scandal related to “accidental” misuse of campaign funds, and her long friendship with Santos has been untroubled by his descent into ignominy.
And to the rancher in Sterling or the shopowner in Cheyenne Wells who needs a voice in Washington while the Trump economy boxes you in, all we can say is, TMZ headlines are what you voted for.
