Pam Bondi Making Fool of Herself, Administration in Judicial Committee Hearing

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

UPDATE #2: Heckuva job, Bondi! As POLITICO reports:

Democrats walked into the House Judiciary Committee hearing with Attorney General Pam Bondi Wednesday expecting her to be nonresponsive and combative. They walked out with what they believe to be a more compelling argument for winning back the majority.

For four hours, the nation’s top law enforcement officer largely refused to answer questions from Democrats about the Justice Department’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files…

…The only relevant, new information that Bondi provided to lawmakers was in response to a question from a Republican, Rep. Chip Roy of Texas, who asked whether people would be indicted for ties to Epstein’s crimes.

Bondi said vaguely, “We have pending investigations in our office.” It was not clear whether she was referring to investigations into prominent Democratic officials, which had come after a directive from President Donald Trump.

UPDATE: Colorado’s Rep. Joe Neguse is trending across social media after this withering exchange with Attorney General Pam Bondi today:

NEGUSE: AG Bondi, that man works for you now, right? The man in that video from J6 yelling ‘kill them!’ at cops. His name is Jared Wise.

BONDI: He does work for us, yes. I believe he was pardoned

NEGUSE: And you expect hard-working police officers to believe you take law enforcement seriously?

NEGUSE: General Bondi, 6 days ago you posted online, quote, If you come for law enforcement, the Trump administration will come for you, end quote. I wanna show you just a brief video. It’s about 30 seconds, and I’ll ask you a couple questions about it.

VOICE ON VIDEO: Disgusting, man. Hey, you guys are disgusting. For law enforcement, you’re disgusting. You are the Nazi. You are the Gestapo and you can’t see it because you’re chasing your pension, right? Your pension, your retirement, right? That’s what runs your life, your retirement. [Crosstalk] You’re a loser! Shame on you! Shame on you! Shame on you! Yeah! Fuck them! Yeah! Kill ’em. Yeah!

NEGUSE: Attorney General Bondi. That man works for you now, right?

BONDI: Who was that congressman?

NEGUSE: The man in that video, the one who was in the police worn body cam footage, the one allegedly yelling kill him at police officers on January 6th. His name is Jared Wise.

BONDI: He does work for us.

NEGUSE: He works for you at the Department of Justice.

BONDI: He does.

NEGUSE: This is an individual whom a federal grand jury indicted. For 2 felonies and 4 misdemeanors related to his participation. In the attack on January 6th, 1 of those charges was forcibly assaulting, resisting, opposing, impeding, intimidating, and interfering with police with the intent to commit another felony. This is who you choose. As the chief law enforcement officer of the United States of America to hire at the Department of Justice, someone on video. Yelling kill him at police officers. Right?

BONDI: I believe he was pardoned by President Trump.

NEGUSE: Oh, he was pardoned. You’re right. You’re right, pardoned by President Trump for his offense, pardoned for yelling kill him at police officers, and yet you expect hardworking police officers across the country to believe that you take law enforcement seriously. You could imagine the reaction So many folks across the country hearing the chief law enforcement officer of the United States refuse to even condemn what that individual whom you’ve now hired did…

That is how you strip the hide off someone without ever raising your voice. Original post follows.

My toes are crossed!

Attorney General Pam Bondi is testifying on Capitol Hill today in front of the House Judiciary Committee on the Trump administration’s slow-walk on releasing the full Epstein Files. Bondi’s testimony comes in the same week that several Members of Congress — including Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Windsor) — got their first chance to examine the unredacted Epstein Files.

Bondi has been combative and insulting, refusing to apologize to victims of Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking crimes and responding to legitimate questions from lawmakers with Trump campaign-style talking points. Via The Associated Press:

Bondi at one point went on a wide-ranging, animated, minutes-long defense of Trump in which she portrayed herself as the president’s chief protector and strayed far beyond her actual job as the nation’s chief law enforcement officer.

“You sit here and you attack the president, and I am not going to have it and I am not going to put up with it,” Bondi shouted during an extended speech that even praised the president for a recently surging Dow Jones Industrial Average.

She painted the president as a victim of baseless impeachments and investigations, incorrectly stating at one point that former special counsel Robert Mueller had not found foreign interference in the 2016 presidential election.

“They are trying to deflect from all the great things Donald Trump has done,” Bondi exclaimed.

This has been a theme for Bondi:

Bondi crashes out over Epstein: “The Dow is over 50,000 dollars! I don’t know why you’re laughing. You’re a great stock trader as I hear, Raskin. The Dow is over 50,000 right now. The S&P at almost 7,000, and the Nasdaq smashing records. That’s what we should be talking about.”

Defend President Trump at all costs? You betcha!

“He is the most transparent president in the nation’s history!” — Bondi is stammering as she attacks Democrats and tries to downplay Epstein as a distraction from the stock market

Lie under oath to protect the Big Orange Guy? Sign me up!

Lieu plays Bondi the infamous clip of Trump & Epstein partying together & asks her if there were underaged girls at any party the two attended

“This is so ridiculous,” Bondi says. “There’s no evidence that Donald Trump has committed a crime”

“I believe you just lied under oath,” Lieu replies

Here’s The New York Times:

Bondi has accused the Democrats of “theatrics” in her appearance at a House Judiciary Committee hearing. But the attorney general has been, by far, the loudest voice in the room. She has insulted several Democrats and has been repeatedly, if gently, blocked by Jim Jordan, a Republican and the chairman of the committee, from shouting over her questioners.

Democrats anticipated these antics from Bondi and got ahead of them early. Again, from the Times:

Congressman Raskin warns Bondi not to adopt the tactic she used before the Senate Judiciary Committee in October, when she stonewalled Democrats by launching scripted attacks and answering questions with personal insults and political putdowns. “We saw your performance in the Senate, and we’re not going to accept that. This isn’t a game.”

If there is some way in which Bondi’s testimony today does NOT end up inflicting more damage on the Department of Justice and President Trump in general, we’ll be sure to let you know.
