"I Have No Legislative Agenda; I'm Shutting Down Bills"

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols

Imagine, if you will, that you are in charge of hiring a new salesperson for your widget company in Colorado.

As part of the hiring process, you bring in a few potential candidates for job interviews and ask them all the same general questions. In one of the interviews, this exchange takes place:

INTERVIEWER: Tell me about your strategy for selling more widgets…

CANDIDATE: I’m actually not interested in trying to sell more widgets. My plan is to prevent other salespeople from selling widgets. In fact, I pledge to you that I will not even attempt to sell widgets at your company.

We would imagine that this job interview would come to a swift conclusion shortly thereafter.

But in the upside-down world that is the Colorado Republican Party, this is a position that State Rep. Ron Weinberg (R-Loveland) PROUDLY STATES IN PUBLIC.

Weinberg and his wife, Carolyn Weinberg, recently appeared on the right-wing radio program “The Jeff and Bill Show” in order to push back against allegations of sexual harassment levied by fellow Republicans last summer. At the time of those accusations, Weinberg was running for the job of House Minority Whip; he eventually dropped out of the running after the allegations surfaced, but Republicans have continued to go after him for other alleged offenses.

But the Weinberg comments that really caught our attention came later in the show — at the 24:37 mark below…

JEFF HUNT: What is your legislative agenda this upcoming session?

RON WEINBERG: To be quite frank, I have no legislative agenda. I’m shutting down bills. I’m going in there to argue and fight, and shut down bills…

…So at this point, I’m working to move to a pledge of actually running zero [bills] and shutting bad bills down.

Yowza!

Rep. Ron Weinberg (R-Loveland)

Weinberg is well-known in the state legislature as someone who has no problem barfing out opinions that should absolutely remain inside his giant melon. But the reason that this particular statement from Weinberg is important is because he is saying the quiet part out loud about what Republicans have been doing at the state legislature for years.

We have long documented in this space the completely unserious antics of legislative Republicans who will occasionally acknowledge that their only goal as elected representatives is to prevent other elected representatives from doing anything. Yet Weinberg’s candid admissions on “The Jeff and Bill Show” takes that “strategy” to another level: Weinberg even talks about MAKING A PLEDGE TO CARRY NO LEGISLATION AT ALL.

Think about that for a moment. Weinberg is essentially saying, with pride, that he plans to do absolutely nothing for his Loveland constituents and will instead focus his time on trying to muck up everything else.

Democrats should take these quotes and use them, um, liberally throughout the 2026 election cycle. The Colorado Republican Party: We Have No Legislative Agenda!

When someone tells you who they are and what they are planning, you should take them at their word.
