Brianna Titone Runs For Colorado Treasurer

  •
  • by: Colorado Pols
Rep. Brianna Titone (D).

As Colorado Public Radio’s Bente Birkeland reports, the first Democrat we’d consider a serious contender for the Colorado Treasurer nomination in 2026, term-limited state Rep. Brianna Titone, formally jumped in the race this morning:

Democratic State Rep. Brianna Titone of Arvada, who is term-limited at the statehouse, is running to be the next Colorado State Treasurer.

Titone currently chairs the House Joint Technology committee, is the vice chair of the Finance Committee, and sits on the Appropriations Committee. She is Colorado’s first openly transgender state lawmaker.

The former geologist was first elected to the statehouse in 2018 in a blue wave, defeating a prominent Republican in the GOP held seat in a tight race. If she succeeds in the Treasurer’s race, she hopes to make history as the country’s first openly transgender elected to a statewide executive office.

Rep. Titone made history after being uncontroversially elected four times to represent her suburban Jefferson County House district, and her record in the legislature was relatively moderate focused on such practical matters as the “right to repair” wheelchairs and later electronics and farm equipment. Although two minor Democratic candidates have already filed to run for Treasurer, watch for this race to narrow between Rep. Titone and other better-known candidates, expected to include state Sen. Jeff Bridges in the coming days.
