Penry Expected to Announce Campaign July 4

by: Colorado Pols

Tue Jun 09, 2009 at 15:50:36 PM MDT

UPDATE: Penry says we have it wrong (although other Polsters have heard the same thing -- see comments). "When we settle on a time, date and a decision itself, I can assure you that the liberal bloggers over at Colorado Pols will not be the first to know," he told the Grand Junction Sentinel.

That makes us sad that Penry won't tell us about his announcement plans. But we still hear it will be on July 4; maybe we're wrong, and we'll be the first to admit it if it turns out that way. But keep in mind that Penry couldn't confirm this date publicly without effectively announcing that he was running for Governor -- and thus triggering the timeline that would force him to register a campaign committee before he wants to do so. Even if this is true, and we still think it is, Penry couldn't confirm it publicly because he's not an announced candidate.

Original Post Follows...

Senate Minority Leader Josh Penry reportedly plans to announce his campaign for Governor on July 4.

No, seriously, July 4.

Yes, it's cheesy, but it beats breaking campaign finance laws.

Awesome!
Colorado's Independence Day is ON. Penry will be flanked for his historic announcement by mentor Glenn Beck, members of the Colorado Patriot Militia and the LaPorte Church of Christ.

Yo quiero gobierno medio!

Hopefully the media will all be ensconced in their backyards
around the grill

I wonder if he really thought this through.
July 4th is on a Saturday this year and nobody, absolutely nobody, is in the house watching tv on a July 4th weekend. Bad time for a news dump.

"I wouldn't characterize caloric intake as "professional development." c rork

Completely agree...
he should wait until the 6th....

"But when I see a 9-11 victim family on television, or whatever, I'm just like, 'Oh, shut up!' I'm so sick of them because they're always complaining."  Glenn Beck

Source, Pols?
Bet your mortgage that it's not going to be on July 4th.  Why?  Because there's no way -- NO way -- that Penry would allow hacks on ColoradoPols to break this story.

What say you, Pols?

What say us?
We says you should drink less alcohol before posting.

If he's planning on announcing on July 4, Penry's campaign isn't going to change that just because we wrote about it here. That's silly.

And you're giving us a little too much credit for "breaking this story." This isn't earth-shattering news, by any means. It's not a big secret that Penry is running for Governor.

[ Parent ]
Yeah
not really earth shattering.  Also, I don't think that Penry is looking for statewide pub on this, if he can get the GJ Sentinel to do some photos of he and his young family around the American Holiday, it will play good with the base, which is all that he is looking for at this point.

Another point to Penry for the primary.

[ Parent ]
Also
Nice Pols, you already got a reply from Josh.

Saturday, July 4th would be a terrible day to launch...
"When we settle on a time, date and a decision itself, I can assure you that the liberal bloggers over at Colorado Pols will not be the first to know," Penry said today.

So who will it be?  Penry bff Gary Harmon?  COGA?  Swastika guy?  Who will Josh tip off before he blast faxes the world?

Any guesses?

LOL...I bet
Gary Harmon about busted his straight jacket restraints when he thought he'd been scooped by Pols!  After all, the breaking of vows that bind might end in a nasty divorce.

It'll be the conservative bloggers on ColoradoPols
Interesting wording - time & date first, and then "a decision" thrown in afterwards...

Where all the cool kids will be on Saturday - Code War!

[ Parent ]
Mesa county is what?
1.5% of the state's population?  I think Penry needs more than that to win.

Reported earlier today...
Penry is making himself look bad. Why beat around the bush about his announcement? It only hurts him. Nonetheless, Pols is correct. I heard it through the GOP circles today and posted it:

BREAKING NEWS...sort of
Penry plans to make campaign official in early July with an announcement @ the capitol.

Hehe
Yeah, I believe it. And as for Penry, I'll believe it when I DON'T see it, and if he re-arranges his announcement because he got scooped by a blog it will be even better.

Yo quiero gobierno medio!

[ Parent ]
Stuff like this always pre-leaks
There are too many people that he needs to give a heads-up to.

[ Parent ]
"pre-leak"?
is that like a "leak," but with too many prefixes?

I'm not as sweet as I used to be.

[ Parent ]
Maybe Penry
should use panty liners?

Paddling Back Penry
What do you expect when John Marshall is assisting with the Penry Campaign. Anyone remember John Marshall? (he he)

Is Tim Foster paying
Marshall to run Penry's campaign?  Is it a requirement for patronage jobs?  When will they ever learn?

he should've said FASCIST BLOGGERS!!!!

sorry ClubTwitty
Did I hurt your feelings?

Until now, I had no idea you could feel?

:)

TABOR4LIFE

[ Parent ]
No.
I am glad that you participate here on occasion Ali, and appreciate that you're a bit more reasonable than most of your party colleagues.  But in in order for you to hurt my feelings, I would have to care what you think.

I do think its funny that wingnuts throw whatever slander they can think of with no understanding of their historical or definitional contexts...

Just another sign of a party in disarray.

Loved today's polling that shows the top 'leaders' of the national GOP are Newt, Dick, and Rush and that many GOP hate their own party.  Now go out and wimper win!

Tom Tancredo must be seething. Quick! Make another crazy charge against Sotomayor!

[ Parent ]
no worries
I feel good about our Party

However, I will continue to maintain that someone needs to apologize for passing/supporting Bail Out #1 (October 2008)

If there is a rise in internal GOP disapproval, it is because the leadership in our good Party has yet to apologize for supporting Bail Out #1 - once that happens, we can thoroughly criticize the Democrats for passing Bail Out #2, but until then, we run the risk of looking hypocritical

The issue isn't 'looking' hypocritical
its BEING hypocritical...

Uhhhh...
we run the risk of looking hypocritical

You might want to check the latest polls regarding the Republican Party. That ship has sailed, bro, from the looks of the vast amount of folks that have left your party in the last 8 months.

No, no....
Politics isn't an industry that's measured in minutes

There's plenty of time to recover and make up for past mistakes - but the clock is certainly ticking

And both Parties are guilty of hypocrisy in many ways and it would be ludicrous to claim perfection from any Party

However - as Republicans, our strength is being low-taxes, pro-business, anti-regulation, tough on business corruption and failure, and open/free economy --- we completely threw those principals out the window in October of 2008

We are not a corrupt and/or hypocritical Party in any way - quite frankly, our ideals and convictions have stood the tests of time - however, we experienced a MASSIVE lapse in October of 2008 and someone needs to apologize for it

TABOR4LIFE

[ Parent ]
edit - before I get flamed
I meant to say - Our Party is not seeded on corruption and/or hypocrisy in any way, and for the most part, our ideals have proudly stood the test of time

TABOR4LIFE

[ Parent ]
Sorry, I don't agree.
Your party is both corrupt and hypocritical. And yeah, anti-regulation--wow, that's worked out real well for the average American, hasn't it? Good of you to admit that we have the Republican Party to thank for that one.

The Dems aren't far behind you, either. You should really stop assuming that anyone that dislikes the Republican Party and says so on this blog is a Democrat. Because I'm not.

And by the way, I don't know if you've been in a coma but your party had a massive lapse long before October 2008. It's your kind of denial that ensures that the Republican Party will continue to implode. But hey. Have at it, ostrich, because it's working out so well for your side, isn't it.

What, pray tell, does your ticking clock measure if not minutes?

AIG didn't break the law...
but they are robbers all the same.

The deregulation of the financial markets caused a lot of the current mess, but most of it wasn't technically illegal.

Funny
I seem to remember Pols a few months ago swearing Penry would not run.  Now that they seem to have that wrong, who would believe anything they say about Penry?

Sorry karate chop
but, Pols has it correct. Penry planned to announce in early July a few months ago. Now that the cat is out of the bag, it will be interesting to see what his "campaign" does about it.

Remember, he wants to announce so he can start raising money and July 1 is the start of a new quarter. So, think what you want, but Penry still plans to announce his bid for Governor in early July.

I find it funny that, once again, Pols beat Penry to the finish line.

"...Penry...would be a shitty Governor." -Ralphie

[ Parent ]
Indeed
Though it's also possible that things have changed more in the last three and a half months than they're likely to in the next three weeks. We've updated on Penry's evolving run about, oh, a hundred times or so since the item you're referring to, and it's been clear he was running for most of that time, but feel free to cherry-pick witless little rejoinders all you like.

[ Parent ]
Poor Josh
Now he's going to have to announce on 7/5/09 just to make sure Pols isn't right. Thanks a lot Pols, you spoilsports!

He ought to announce on 8/1
He's running for state office, after all, not federal. I say we should thoroughly pillory the guy for his lack of love for the state. Colorado Nationalism Now!

Wait... Did I read this here? And can someone confirm?

REALLY?!?!? John Marshall is running the Penry Campaign?!?!?

You've GOT to be kidding.

Please please please someone confirm this campaign-tanking news.

No one can confirm it
because Penry is not a candidate yet.  But it is not implausible.  After all, it is the MSC group who are behind Penry.  And maybe Penry wants to give his buddy, Marshall, a chance to redeem himself after his two very embarrassing and disastrous campaigns.  My bet though, is that the out-state-hydrocarbon Penry backer companies will find a way to pour dollars in to Penry's coffers and get him a campaign manager who might have a clue about how campaigns are run.

One thing is for sure, Penry will not be having Janet "Bestiality" Rowland running his campaign again, after how she embarrassed the Republican Party.
