We get a lot of press releases here at Colorado Pols. Most are benign, some are pretty bad, but sometimes we get really good press releases. This is an example of one of them, from the Garfield Democratic Party:
The Garfield County Democratic Party had a Democratic photo contest to zip up their headquarters during this past election. The winner, according to the county party’s Director of Pizzazz Nick Isenberg, received, “A picture of him or herself standing in front of their winning picture. (We’re on a tight budget.)”
Typical pictures entered in the contest were candidates giving speeches, political floats in parades and politicians campaigning.
But the winner was a picture Ralph Fruetel standing in front of a bunch of campaign signs on his truck taken by Ralph Fruetel by setting his camera on a tripod and setting the timer on his camera.
His prize-a picture of Ralph Fruetel holding a picture of Ralph Fruetel taken by Ralph Fruetel.
The picture of Ralph Fruetel holding a picture of Ralph Fruetel taken by Ralph Fruetel was taken by Nick Isenberg. [Pols emphasis]
Why is this a good press release? It’s unique, it’s funny, and it came on a slow news day. Is it important news? Of course not — but it got our attention.
