Cory Gardner, Cut the Crap on Clearances

  • by: ProgressNow Colorado

As allegations of security leaks and breaches of protocol continue to pile up against the Trump administration, ProgressNow Colorado, the state’s largest online progressive advocacy organization, called on Sen. Cory Gardner of Colorado to end his hypocrisy and show the same concern about national security with the Trump Administration that he did while attacking Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“In response to the overblown stories about Hillary Clinton’s email server, Senator Gardner actually introduced legislation to revoke the security clearance of Secretary Clinton and her senior staff,” said ProgressNow Colorado executive director Ian Silverii. “Today, while President Trump hands out his personal cell phone number to foreign powers and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner is under investigation for his secret contacts with the Russian government, Gardner is silent. In 2016, Gardner was using his position to insert himself into the presidential campaign, now, he is ignoring the very real possibility that members of the Trump administration are undermining national security.”

“For Cory Gardner to obsess over the non-story of Clinton’s email server while ignoring the growing scandal of foreign influence over the Trump administration is the height of hypocrisy,” said Silverii. “If Gardner really cared about our national security, he would demand that Jared Kushner give up his security clearance, and prevent the Trump administration from making any major policy changes until the connection between the Russian government and Trump’s campaign and administration can be fully investigated. Anything less only proves that Cory Gardner cares more about scoring political points than keeping our nation safe from foreign subversion, and that he’s more interested in serving Trump than serving Colorado.”
