Senate Candidate Ran For "The Children"

  • by: Colorado Pols

Literally, as the Rocky Mountain News reports:

Former U.S. Senate candidate Buddy Moore received a 30-day jail sentence Monday in an incident during the Democratic National Convention in which the president of the Children’s Museum said Moore hit him with his truck.

Tom Downey said Moore pulled into the museum’s parking lot before President-elect Barack Obama’s acceptance speech at Invesco Field and became infuriated when told he would have to pay $40 to park.

Moore, a write-in candidate whose truck advertised his campaign, slammed on the gas, clipped Downey in the right knee and barreled across the museum’s plaza where children sometimes play, Downey said…

Nobody’s quite sure if Moore was a Greenie, a LaRouchie, or just a nut. His campaign’s rolling billboard truck (the whole advertising budget) has been likened to the “dead fetus-mobile,” and his campaign strategy seems to have revolved around loudly heckling Mark Udall everywhere he went. Some insist he was an endearing character despite his personal flaws, like the “Clinton Raped Juanita” sandwich-board guy was “endearing.”

Maybe things will go better for Buddy in the illustrious “jailhouse orange” party.

  1. .

    “George Washington slept here.”

Were any kids playing there at the time of the incident ?

The Rocky can report it any way they choose, but when this is included, they aren’t being a news paper anymore.

    .

    1. That he “slammed on the gas, clipped Downey in the right knee and barreled across the museum’s plaza” makes me question his sanity, especially when it was over a $40 fee top park near Invesco Field for Obama’s acceptance speech. He should have known it would cost that much (or more) to park there.

  2. Nobody’s quite sure if Moore was a Greenie, a LaRouchie, or just a nut

    …But I repeat myself.

Also, Tom Downey is a really nice guy. Anyone running him down would have to be a total socio-path.

  3. That Westword profile you link to really captures him. Thanks for bringing it to my attention – I wondered how he had all that free time to stand around with those nutter signs.

And I agree with Steve Balboni – anyone who would run over Tom Downey has got to have some serious mental issues. That guy’s like a life-size teddy bear, perfect for the Children’s Museum.

    1. How can you not appreciate something that outlandish? I used to see him all the time in Boulder, and I always figured he was a nut. Very interesting article, sounds like he’s not exactly a nut, at least not the way I was thinking.

  4. Is absolutely disgusting and highly offensive.  When I saw it, I was in a car full of pro-life conservatives, and we were all pretty furious.

I’m glad there weren’t any children in our car.

    Tasteless.  Absolutely tasteless

      1. yet I have volunteered to be part of the human shield at St. John’s Episcopal in Denver to keep the children at the annual easter egg hunt from being exposed to the fetus mobile protesters.

Yes, they protest the easter egg hunt for children.

  5. Sorry, had to say it.  I did see this guy heckling Mark at some big event.  I just think, yeah, this accomplishes a lot.

After reading this, I think, What a Dumbass.
