  1. It’s not even Wednesday yet where I am, let alone in the land of the ever-choking Donkos.  Santa will have come and gone in this part of the world before even the Christmas Eve present-openers untie the first ribbon, yet it’s Wednesday’s thread already.

Oh, I get it.  You’re disobeying the tyranny of the order of the days of the week.  Very clever.

I prefer Thursday.  He’s not really an anarchist, you know.

    1. .

and how safe are those flimsy boats you guys are working out of ?

and what are you going to do with all that oil, if they don’t meet your ransom demand ?

      .

      1. They’re lined with cash.

What makes you think we won’t take both the ransom and the oil?  Though with the price of oil these days, pumping the hold with a suitable substitute might be more expensive.

Those Malaccan pirates are amateurs.  Did you know they still use big knives to try to take ships?  You get the big fish when you wave around an AK.

I’ll tell you what we’re going to do now, though – Go Legit.

        1.  Invest the money in various companies that are getting contracts for “escort” duties.

        2.  ….

        3.  Profit!

  2. Since we have a number of quality candidates, what we really should do is have a primary. Because whoever gets this seat can hold it for a loooong time.

Why not appoint Pat Schroder with her stating that she will not run for re-election to the seat? Then in 2010 we can have a primary between the various individuals that are interested. Even Ritter could run if he wanted.

      1. …worked so well? Obama (& Clinton) were much better campaigners by the end of their race. If Hillary had just been given the nomination McCain would have had an excellent chance of beating her.

If we have a robust primary and the Republicans have an annointed candidate, we Dems will win.

    1. is because they DON’T have to campaign. Plus, if they ran, they might actually lose.

      So, here’s a follow-up question:

If this were 2010, and this was an open seat, who would run?

    1. The four names Pols has in the line are all still contenders. The basic dynamic hasn’t changed, though there’s plenty of posturing (who could have foreseen that?!).

Seriously, do you think the odds have significantly changed?

  3. and listened to Rush Limbaugh. He was talking about the water main break in Bethesda, MD, which trapped a bunch of drivers, washed away roads, and caused water outages. (You may recall a similar event that caused a huge sinkhole in I-25 about a year ago.) He bloviated thusly: “As you know, Obama plans to start out spending billions of dollars on public works projects. Now just as I predicted, the left-wing media is saying that the Bethesda water main break proves that the infrastructure is worn out and needs these billion-dollar public works programs….” Click; could listen no more; turned off the radio.

DUH!!! What is the counterargument? That this water main break proves that we shouldn’t be spending tax dollars on infrastructure because it will just break anyway? That this water main break proves that the water main union is the problem, and a free water main market would install better, unbreakable water mains?

I mean, seriously: Does this water main break mean anything other than the infrastructure is aging, deteriorating, and in need of repair? Or am I missing something that would justify his assertion that this is just left-wing media spin?

    1. That’s actually fairly tame for Rush.  It’s a mindless argument but not his customary red meat, full moon, wing nut inspired tirade of diatribes.

      1. “As has been clearly documented, but as which the liberal left mainstream lamestream media WILL NOT TELL YOU, there’s good reason to believe that an enemy of Bill Ayers, the terrorist, was on that Maryland highway. What if he was on his way to visit his sick mother and he was the last person who could get her the medication she so desperately NEEDS!? Ladies and gentlemen, did Barack Obama conspire with Ben Cardin to SABOTAGE this road? SABOTAGE! It’s a question the lamestream MSM won’t ask, but I will, because man I’m so fucking high right now.”
