Colmes Leaving "Hannity and Colmes"

Hot off the Business Wire:

FOX News Channel’s (FNC) Alan Colmes will relinquish his role as co-host of Hannity & Colmes at the end of the year.

In announcing his decision, Colmes said, “I approached Bill Shine (FNC’s Senior Vice President of Programming) earlier this year about wanting to move on after 12 years to develop new and challenging ways to contribute to the growth of the network. Although it’s bittersweet to leave one of the longest marriages on cable news, I’m proud that both Sean (Hannity) and I remained unharmed after sitting side by side, night after night for so many years.”

Colmes will continue to have a presence on FNC as he will serve as a liberal commentator on a variety of FOX News programming…

Long derided as the un-photogenic “token liberal” whose real job was to gamely absorb conservative co-host Sean Hannity’s domineering punches, it will be interesting to see who replaces him. Hint: he won’t be any better looking.

What’s the local tie-in for this story, you ask? Absolutely none, Craig Silverman insists nervously…

  1. Somehow, by switching from TV to radio he grew a set.  Then back to TV, he would lose them.

I liked his radio show.  I never turn on Fox, so I missed his 12 year roast.

  2. Silverman isn’t a liberal in any meaningful sense of the word. He’s the center-right “balance” to Caplis’ unhinged far-right delusions.

Caplis is so far-right that he makes Silverman seem liberal by comparison I suppose.

I can only stomach about 10 minutes of that show a week.

  3. If Colmes leaves the Hannity show, nobody will ever watch him. HeВґs on Fox, for crying out loud; who will tune into Fox to see the liberal side of things? Seems to lead inevitably to Colmes underperforming in the ratings and thus getting canceled entirely.

I believe this like I believe Alberto Gonzales wanted to spend more time with his family.

  4. If the whole Senate race doesn’t work out (and I’m not giving up on that just yet….) it would be nice to have a real, gutsy liberal take on Hannity.  Hannity would fold like a cheap tent…

Honestly, will anyone notice that Colmes has left?

    1. …because the most Alan ever did was offer “strong constructive criticism,” much less disagree with whatever the talking point of the day was.

Whatever…it can now turn into the Goose-Stepping with Sean Hour.

          1. for much the same reasons as Parsing said above (and I can’t now since we went back to the rabbit ears), but I always liked Al Franken’s description from Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them – he described Hannity as being the Alpha male to Colmes’s Zeta male.

  5. It’d be nice if just ONCE Silverman actually ended the conversation and a show. Instead, Caplis always gets in the last word.

How about a special week where the show is called “Silverman & Caplis” and Dan gets to talk only as much, timewise, as Silverman usually does?

Nahhh, it’ll never happen. Caplis’s ego is way too big for that.
