Excellent piece. Also would like to say the ultra hawks who love this guy and hate Obama are very much a minority among American Jews. We voted for Obama around 3 to 1 in 2008 and a good deal more than than 2 to 1 in 2012 when his percentage dropped off among several demos. So most of us don't buy the anti-Obama hatred and hysteria that gets forwarded to us by the occasional Fox consuming relative.
I recently got one with a "joke" from a black sheep Fox consuming relative. I deleted without reading it, as usual, but another relative told me about it because she was so appalled. It was about a psychic predicting that Obama would die on a Jewish holiday. Which Jewish holiday? Whatever day Obama dies.
This from an otherwise exemplary husband, father, brother, son, cousin and uncle devoted with absolute loyalty to his friends and loved ones and literally willing to go into burning buildings for people, being a retired fire fighter. Also a trained EMT. The man has spent his life saving lives, helping people and being there for everyone he cares about, a very big circle. And he's all there. Can't blame it on any hint of senior dementia. It makes me very sad.

The Left has no platform to expose the abuses of the GOTP. Part of me thinks that is best for the country’s sake. But, probably a larger part of me is tired of getting our asses kicked.
Dems have largely unilaterally surrendered in the messaging wars. Dems seem to think they'll be respected for not sinking to the level of the right but the mistake is in thinking calling the right out is sinking or not being bi-partisan enough. Big, big, big mistake. Dems need to dig themselves out of the messaging hole they've dug with their please don't hate me for not being a real Republican, I'm pretty close routine.
At this point that hole is so deep, a public that goes for Dem policies in the polls still votes for the other guys because they have no idea it's the Dem policies they support. The other guys have been in control of all the terms and definitions for decades. It's going to take a huge attitude adjustment to turn that around. It's not going to get done with an old fashioned DLC Clinton running for the WH. Even if she wins, it will just be a continuation of Republican-lite weak tea.

So let's just call fascism by it's name when we see it. Everyone is so afraid of invoking Godwins' Law (I believe it is), we have not seriously called out thois kind of behavior. This is exactly how fascism starts…

Republicans and Fox may not be repeating history but they ARE using techniques that were tragically successful in the past – appealing to people's base instincts, the primitive side of people that drives the need to hate other groups and protect themselves through tribalism. Hate, meanness, violence, putting down those who are different (the "other") in order to feel better about one's self, and other negative aspects of human behavior, are being promoted and glorified by the right wing. We are living through just another version of the KKK or national socialism – and yes, the extreme Islamists are doing the same thing as the extreme (fake) Christians. What has worked against extremism in the past – besides war? Christians used to promote "turn the other cheek" – that concept seems to be lost on the foaming-at-the-mouth crowd these days.
With little serious opposition from most Dems. Very sad and frustrating.

Has anyone else been following along with the Colorado Senate Dems daily updates? I enjoy seeing them whenever Morgan Carrol posts them on her Facebook page and I think they're an excellent record of all the good and bad that is going on in the Senate so far this year.
Sadly, there's a lot of "bad" coming from Republicans in the Senate. One example I've not yet seen posted here at CP: they've introduced a bill to repeal the 30% renewable energy mandate, setting it back to the 15% standard set by Amendment 37. Clearly these mandates have been economic drivers, and just as clearly the utilities
Here' my email response from Sen. Baumgardner – a full-serving of pretzeled logic. Only in a Dumphuckistan math class would lowering a standard from 30% to 15% for the most abundant energy resources in the state equate to increasing an opportunity for "all" energy resources to participate.
"not show preference"?? Does that mean Sen. Baumgardner is in favor of repealing the Ad Valorem tax credit for O&G? I don't think he does…but, wouldn't that make him a hypocrite? Surely not…..
I'm guessing the Senator has no intention of rolling back the exemption from severance taxes the state's coal industry gets every year on their first 300,000 tons of mined product?
