Colorado Pols is 10 Years Old Today!

  • by: Colorado Pols

So send us a present or something.

It was 10 years ago on this very day, Dec. 23, that Colorado Pols took its first steps out onto the Internet tubes. We're still growing, and still getting bigger.

Thank you for your continued support throughout the years!

  1. I thought all of the Old Timers would come back for this.  Where are Tancredo Watch, Lamborn Has Go-Like Qualities, Lauren Bacall, Gecko, Moonraker, and some of the other classics?

    1. Baron X, sxp151, Progressive Cowgirl, Laughing Boy, PERA hopeful, Mr. Toodles, Aristotle, Dwyer, SSG Dan…

      Danny the Red (hair), Raphie…

Some of them kept me around longer than I've had any right (mind) staying.

Congrats on ten years of giving diverse voices a voice.

      1. PERA hopeful is here.  She is 51 years and one day older than Colorado Pols.  I do miss Lamborn Has God-Like Qualities, and everyone else listed, and Middle of the Road.  Not so much bjwilson, though.

      1. Yes, Barron X.  Wasn't Chuck the guy who ran against Lamborn in 2006 and made him go all apoplectic?  Lamborn told him to shut up during a debate?

  2. Congrats!

Joined in very early 2005, different name.

What has changed since then?  The Bush and henchmen are no longer in the White House.  Their spirit lives on though.  Our work is not done.

We still need to keep Colorado Democratic.  And, even though I no longer live in JeffCo, fight to return the county to normalcy.

Happy 10th and looking forward to many more decades.

  3. Congratulations to Pols, and thanks for giving me space to explore political writing. It's been fun, and I look forward to more of it.

Now about that comment editor function……

  4. Joined in the Ritter campaign in 2006 under a different name.  Those were the days of Ruthie and Sybil …who, at the time, seemed 'rat in a coffee can' crazy. Today they wouldn't even make the Top 10.

    1. Pretty sure that Ruthie/Sybil would be crazy by any standard, old or new. But I'm not going back to read old posts to remind myself…

Can't believe I've been posting on this site for most of 10 years… Can't believe there are still so many that remember the olden days. We need to find an old dilapidated porch somewhere to kick back and reminisce.

      1. She/They (I'm not convinced they weren't the same poseur) were pretty much 'just crazy' – they weren't this near-demonic, shock-at-all-costs, know-no-depths-to-their-hate poseur's like we have now.

We definitely need some porch time!

        1. If I recall sxp151 found the key to Sybil's multiple identities was hiding in plain sight — taking their cue from the movie by the same name.  One of the alternate identities was Michael … M.D. (Forgot what the name starting with a 'D' was).  He/she was a self-admitted provocateur, but lacked the malicious and coldly cynical intent of AC.

    2. I don't remember Ruthie but I hope you're not confusing me with her. I've been reading every day since almost the beginning, commenting only about a dozen times over the years. Definitely not Sybil.

  5. I've been around here so long I don't even remember how long it has been, but it remains the only place I write. Seems to me it went by a different name when I first joined …Colorado Confidential, was it?

  6. So is there a birthday present for us? In other words, an EDIT button? 😀

Congratulations on your continued success. I'm trying to remember if Alan Franklin is a part of ColoradoPols or not. We both protested RL together against David Horowitz at the Tivoli.

Fun times… but the only time I met Alan.

  7. I've only been around for a couple of years. but this is a fun bunch of people. Happy Birthday to us and when are we getting together again? Are we going to have to wait for some of you Western Slopers and Frackistanians to schedule testimony before the legislature?

        1. I'm probably traveling to Pueblo on the morning of Dec 29 for the counter-WBC protest. What about an evening in Denver or somewhere on the I25 corridor on the 29th, Polsters?

          1. Ack, and two days *BEFORE* I return home to Denver from a family trip to New York..

It's wet here, and I miss my snow.

I'd love to meet you all one day!

    1. I would love to get together with ya'll, but my spouse and I are headed to Florida for a couple of weeks to escape the cold for a while. If you do manage a meet-up..I will join you in spirit.

  8. Congrats to you, Dead Governors!  Instead of asking you to provide things for a blog that I pay nothing to read, I'll just say thanks for the memories and long may you blog.

  9. Congratulations.  Many a post has been worth reading, and commenting to.  It has been a great run, and lots more to go.  I, like other Colorado ex-pats, rely on Colorado Pols for the real story of Colorado politics.

Although not in the first few months of Pols , pretty close to it, is when I first joined, under a different name.  I started using my real name in 2007 when I first ran for office.  Candidates and elected should always use their real name when posting or commenting anywhere.

  10. Looking back at some of the early postings, 2005-6, brought back many memories.  Backing the Progressive candidate was not a winning strategy for the most part.  Even a few of my early scribblings, and a warning to all, do not blog drunk at 1am.  Not that I ever did, but I could see the effect on those who did.

The questions concerning those who posted and do not anymore.  If they have not changed persona, they left politics.  Many could not take the nasties, the personal attacks and especially not winning or backing a loser.  I know where a few are, and they burned out.

It is tough to stay in this game for very long, only a certain group do.  In the Wellstone programs one get together was based on why "we" were there and involved.  The patter when something like: do you read about politics and watch it on the news?  Do you watch political programs?  Do you watch the Sunday morning talking head shows?  Do you watch CNN?  Do you watch Prime Ministers questions? Live?  If you answered yes to any or all of these questions you are not "normal".  Normal Americans do not do any of the above.

The search feature needs to include date ranges.  It would be a lot easier than trying to remember politicians who were running during certain periods.
