I just got home from the meeting.
I wish Jared,
running to represent CD-02 (Boulder) in Congress,
would conduct more of his meetings in Colorado Springs.
That would save me a lot of driving.
Think about it, Mr. Polis.
Anyway, he pulled the meeting together,
his staff made all the arrangements,
and then he put the main focus on guest speaker David Mann,
an Iraq War vet.
That showed some real class.
.
.
And I have some advice for the new Polis campaign manager, whoever that is:
based on this meeting, the first time I ever met the candidate,
it seems to me that nearly everybody who meets him likes him.
I think Jared should meet as many voters as possible,
in Rotary Club and Knights of Columbus meetings;
on the Mall;
in churches and at workplaces.
I honestly didn’t know if I would like him,
based on what I read here,
based on personal interactions by email and over the phone,
and even from what’s on his website.
But he makes everyone feel like they’re his friend.
If he has any chance of winning,
this is it.
Knock on as many doors and
shake as many hands as possible.
It’s so, so … pre-Internet.

He’s one of the authors of the “Responsible Plan” to end the War in Iraq.
That plan seems a little “wonkish.”
But he is very practical concerning the compromises that it will take to get our troops out, quickly,
without leaving behind a vacuum, and a bloodbath.
.
1. Why would Jared do a town hall in Colorado Springs?
2. You failed to make it on the ballot when you ran are you the best person to offer advice on how to win?
3. Over 35 people running for office have signed on to support the plan, they all think it is good enough… are you smarter than all of them?
4. Did you try to write your post in poem form?
.
#4. Are you saying that you don’t consider this poetry ?
If so, you and I will have to agree to disagree. Or you can change your mind.
.
#3. Apparently I may be. Have you read it ?
It reads like the Iraq Study Group, rehashed.
Essentially, we need the neighbors to come together and fix what the USA cannot fix.
Pie in the sky.
The only workable part is the first point about transitioning to Iraqi control,
but it is so generic (in order to get those 35 to agree to sign it)
that it fails to recognize that there is no functioning national government
– who’s legitimacy is accepted by even a majority of the population –
to take control.
Jared seemed to acknowledge that only the warlords and tribal leaders and militia leaders have the capability of assuming conrol,
and then only at the local level.
How many of those 35 will sign on to a detailed plan to put the leaders of criminal gangs in charge of towns and neighborhoods ?
But these local leaders are, at this point, our last, best option.
#2. I may be one of the worst qualified to offer advice on how to campaign and win.
To find someone less capable, you might have to visit the campaign office of [redacted.]
#1. Because it would save me a lot of driving. Get it ?
It’s a joke, son.
