1. Let me understand this right.  Cops beat up the people they are supposed to protect.  Union that protects cops endorses mayoral candidate.  And that’s a plus?

   How come the failure of schools is always blamed on “the union”?  Oh, I get it.  The police union have guns and the teachers union, well, let’s just say they lack the same equipment.

   1. By all accounts, Mr. Montoya is a decent fellow.  But how many rogue cops did he ever fire?  None.  He left the department under a cloud.  Know your history or you are bound to repeat it.

2. Proud to have many people and organizations’ support. Pols posted the first paragraph of the release and their post was addressing the endorsement, not James Mejia’s policy. Just as he’s earned the trust and support of other groups who may not agree with him on every issue but know that he will work to bring all sides to the table, there are people on all sides of discussions of public safety supporting James.

   “A safe city requires a Mayor who understands the critical balance needed to ensure that every citizen feels safe and secure in the many neighborhoods in which we live.  James Mejia understands we have police officers who put their lives on the line every time they pin on their badge,” said former Manager of Safety Butch Montoya. “Therefore, it is incumbent that the Manager of Safety work to ensure that disciplinary issues are investigated in a timely and fair manner. Every citizen deserves to know that when a complaint is investigated, it will be done in a timely manner, ensuring that all parties involved will know that a fair investigation has been done, and justice restored. Under Mayor Mejia’s leadership, we can all work together for a safe city.”

   Civil Rights Attorney Joe Salazar:
   

   “I am pleased to add my name to the growing list of supporters of James Mejia, particularly as he talks about the critical changes that need to take place in our Public Safety Department,” Joe Salazar remarked. “I know that James is the best person to bring all parties to the table and to come up with a public safety plan that will be in the best interest of Denver.”

   James has said at many forums that it is time for a new Police Chief and a Manager of Public Safety whose connections are to the community, not the Police Department.

   Here is what Nita Gonzales, a life-long community and civil rights activist, said about Mejia, his policy and the endorsement

   “As concerned citizens we look forward to the day when the entire Denver Police Department is held accountable, and is respectful with every citizen. We believe that day will come when James Mejia is elected as Denver’s next mayor.”
