GSG/PNC "Mountaineer" Poll: Toss Trump, Bury Boebert, Polis Rides High

The latest issue of The Mountaineer, a collaborative polling effort from Global Strategy Group and local liberal advocacy group ProgressNow Colorado, looks at a variety of political landscape questions for Colorado voters including the case by Colorado voters against ex-President Donald Trump seeking his disqualification from the presidential ballot, the reaction to Rep. Lauren Boebert’s desperate district switcheroo, and public opinion on our local Democrats relative to the national brand.

On the first question, a 56% majority including 61% of Colorado’s crucial unaffiliated voters and 45% of “Non-MAGA Republicans” say Trump deserves to be disqualified for his role in the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021:

Most voters agree that Trump engaged in an insurrection and should be off the ballot. Coloradans, by and large, believe that Trump engaged in insurrection and deeply support the insurrection clause in the 14th amendment. A solid majority supports the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision to kick the former President off the ballot, including a large majority of unaffiliated voters.

Looking closely at Rep. Lauren Boebert’s favorability across the state since her decision to switch from the Western Slope district she represents today to run in the crowded primary for Rep. Ken Buck’s opening seat, it’s evident that her prospects for remaining in Congress have diminished even further with nearly every region and demographic overwhelmingly viewing Boebert unfavorably. This includes the CD-4 voters Boebert needs to win over, where Boebert is currently setting at -42 net favorability. The only group in which Boebert is above water is self-described “MAGA Republicans,” who Boebert desperately hopes are overrepresented in the turnout for the June 25th GOP primary.

Although President Joe Biden’s support has declined both in GSG’s poll and compared to Biden’s double-digit victory in Colorado in 2020, Gov. Jared Polis and Colorado Democratic elected officials have held on to their net positive favorability rating among Colorado voters. Gov. Polis’ enduring popularity after five years in office and an endless firehose of vitriol from the right (and sometimes the left) is a testament to his affable style while occasionally “restraining” a Democratic supermajority rightfully getting credit for making tangible progress. Increasingly unserious Republican opposition in Colorado has made that perception stronger, and it’s clear from these numbers that away from the political inside-baseball sphere, Colorado voters know who to trust when it comes to the issues most relevant to them.

From climate change to abortion rights to education, health care, and gun safety, voters trust Colorado Democrats more than Republicans. Abortion in particular is expected to drive turnout this year in Colorado with a ballot measure to permanently protect abortion rights headed for a vote. These numbers show that fight will continue to be the political winner it has been in years past.

  1. Republican Party is in Total Disarray.

MAGA equals Trump. EVERYONE else is voting for Biden – Republicans, Democrats, unable-to-get-off-the-pots.

Again, the Republican Party is a failed state, and Donald Trump is their warlord.
