UPDATE 8:30PM: Multiple news outlets call Georgia’s U.S. Senate race for Democratic incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock. Democrats win a 51-49 Senate majority as the 2022 election cycle finally comes to a close.
All of American politics awaits the results of the runoff election for the U.S. Senate in the state of Georgia today pitting incumbent Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock against Republican football legend Herschel Walker. Poll aggregates show the race extremely close but with Warnock holding a small persistent edge. A Warnock win would give Democrats a crucial one-seat “Manchin Margin” to pad their Senate majority.
A completely unscientific for-discussion-purposes poll follows. As always, try to set aside what you want to happen and vote for what you think actually will happen. And we’ll update this evening with results.

And more Deep Thoughts from Senator John Cornhole Kennedy (White Trash-LA):
Sen. John Kennedy Urges Georgia to Pick Herschel Walker Instead of 'High IQ' People (msn.com)
I remember when Senator Roman Hruska said in the early 70's that there was nothing wrong with Richard Nixon's mediocre nominees to the Supreme Court, Clement Haynesworth and Harold Carswell because even mediocre people were entitled to representation on the Supreme Court.
The GOP of today would probably consider mediocre to be too arrogant and snobbish. As Orange Jesus once said, "I love the uneducated!" Indeed.
My prediction is that Warnock wins by 51/49% margin.
Hershel Walker and Roy Moore are about the only frame that remains of the Overton Window.
My brother in Atlanta voted in person this morning. He reported just one other person in front of him. In and out in minutes. Guess Walker fans are sleeping in 😉
One out of the way political site, Born to Run the Numbers, says
Why them?
I see 51.4% – 48.6% right now, though I'd imagine there might be some counting left to go. Their prediction was tremendous!
I want to see an annual followup story on Herschel's CTE symptoms for the next 6 years.
Or, we could autopsy his brain a few days from now.
As long as Warnock gets the 50.1, it's all good.
It's 7pm on election day. With 71% in, Warnock is up 50.4 – 49.6%. And the best news is that a lot of the outstanding vote is from largely Dem. counties.
Woo hoo! MSNBC calls it for Warnock. 50.4 – 49.6. Suck it up, Synema!
How does a wife-beating, Texass carpet bagger suffering from CTE get 1,6 million votes?

One word: Football
People here laugh at me when I say that, but I lived next door in Alabama for 8 years. Football stars are treated like God's chosen people there. And of course in Alabama, we had God himself, Bear Bryant, when I lived there.
Adolph Rupp enjoyed that same status in Kentucky, back in the day. The governorship could have been his with a minimal effort.
Tom Osborne rode his successful stint as the Nebraska football coach into a moderately successful congressional career. As a Republican, of course.
Dano's absolutely correct. Georgia is Friday Night Lights territory. If you can run, throw, and catch a funny-shaped ball, there's nothing you can't do.
One of my recurring nightmares is that "Biff" Elway, now that he is no longer messing up the local football team, will enter politics. His ego and need to be in the spotlight provide the incentive.
The GOP tried to recruit him years ago. He wasn't interested. And that was before his messy breakup with Janet.
Alabama sent college football coach Tommy Tuberville to the Senate – obviously better-spoken than Herschel, but without the worship of football would not have been a good candidate for a Senate seat.
Tommy is not a top-level Senate intellect, that's for sure. But FOOTBALL!
Herschel Freakin Walker got 1.7 Million votes. Dems who keep talking about their desire to have two vibrant political parties are asking to lose. It’s freaking stupid. Be careful what you ask for, and why not play hardball politics.
BTW- Fox News is talking about how the 2022 midterms were stolen because Twitter quashed Hunter Biden’s laptop story. You really want them to be in charge?!?
Georgia is not a blue state. I would say it is barely on the cusp of being a purple.
The only reason Warnock won was due to the perfect storm he enjoyed: (1) he is an excellent candidate, (2) he had lots of money behind him, (3) he had a horrendous opponent, and (4) the environment was not bad for Dems.
If these four factors hadn't been working in Warnock's favor, he would have ended up losing in November by 7% like Stacy Abrams did.
Brian Kemp is the one to watch out for. He got re-elected with a lot of unaffiliated voters voting for Warnock and Kemp in November. He can be the anti-Trump Republican candidate in the 2024 presidential primary race if and only if everyone else (Pence and Co.) clear the field and set up a menage-a-trois between Trump, DeSantis, and Kemp.
It isn't a blue state. It's not quite purple. But it is becoming winnable. It can be, at least in Arizona territory in another cycle or two.
"a menage-a-trois between Trump, DeSantis, and Kemp."
That visual image made me loose my breakfast! Thanks!
