UPDATE: Tributes coming in from Colorado political leaders:

Sen. Michael Bennet:

Queen Elizabeth II was a resilient and devoted leader who strengthened the special relationship between our two countries. I share my condolences with all mourning her loss.

And with that, the news cycle for today has ended.

  1. Sadly, as King, he will be expected to remain above politics. Any admonishments or advice he has for the PM will be made privately from now on in their weekly meetings.

  2. For those who do not know I am the author of numerous book about European royalty, and in the past was often one those "royal experts" you see reporters talking to during things royal weddings and funeral. I am retired from the media frenzy side of things now, the last event I covered was The wedding of the Prince and Princess of Monaco. But I do still write books, now mostly limited to two annually updated titles, one a sort of fact-guide for reporters concerning the royals and the other, an attempt to keep track of the 2200+ strong line of succession to the British Throne.

Needless to say, today has been quite the gut punch for me. I think I was more upset over the Queen's passing than I was any of my own grandparents. Like most people, except the elderly, she is the only British monarch I have known. And even though I have had to write and say it numerous times today, "King Charles" or "HIS Majesty" are still not sitting quite right yet.

    1. I saw one comment wondering if Prince Charles will automatically accept King Charles III as the official name.  Is there any ability to change his name?  Any indication that he would?

      1. He could have adopted any name he liked, but has been known as Charles all his life, so would be unlikely to change it at this point, a few weeks before his 74th birthday.

It has been confirmed by the royal household that he will indeed be Charles III, and William will now be the Duke of Cornwall and Cambridge, Cornwall coming automatically to the heir-apparent to the Throne.

  3. I wish the King well and he's a much better human than Truss and her lot of kakistocrats.  That said, it is silly to continue the monarchy.  Now can we talk about Scottish independence?
