Biden Prepares to Bring the Ruckus Tonight

UPDATE: In an apparent attempt to proactively make Biden’s point for him, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy delivered this bonkers line in a pre-Biden speech:

Dude…this is exactly what Biden is talking about. Stop attacking the FBI and law enforcement officials because you’re scared of Donald Trump.

—–

President Joe Biden

President Joe Biden will deliver a speech to the nation tonight that is already creating a lot of buzz. As The New York Times reports, Dark Brandon has had enough of this MAGAbot election fraud nonsense:

Biden will travel to Philadelphia on Thursday for a prime-time address in which he will accuse Republicans loyal to former President Donald J. Trump of embracing a form of extremism that is a direct threat to the United States.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity to preview the speech, a senior White House official said the president would state in direct language how “MAGA Republicans” have put the nation’s institutions at risk and undermined democratic values.

The focus on threats to democracy is a return to the issue that Mr. Biden said drove him to run for the presidency, after white supremacists marched through Charlottesville, Va., in 2017.

The speech is intended to deliver a dark message about threats to the very fabric of American democracy.

Biden previewed some of this message earlier this week, saying that Republicans have embraced “semi-fascism”:

As the Times reports, Biden has recently decided that it’s time to start telling it like it is:

The president had long planned to give another speech on the state of democracy but grew more motivated in recent weeks by persistent false claims of election fraud and the midterms, a White House official said.

Here’s a similar take from POLITICO:

In recent days, Biden and his top aides have called out the Republican response to the FBI search of Trump’s Palm Beach home. They note how some GOP lawmakers called to defund federal law enforcement while others have warned that violence could follow a possible Trump arrest. To Biden, that was just the latest transgression from a Republican Party he has told aides he barely recognizes — one that has remained in the thrall of Trump and in support of the insurrection.

Republicans, meanwhile, are very sad about Biden telling the truth and are raising their rhetoric in response. As Fox News reports:

“Joe Biden’s wretched attacks on millions of Americans have fueled attacks on pregnancy centers, Republican offices, and an assassination attempt on a Supreme Court Justice,” said Ronna McDaniel, chairwoman of the Republican National Committee. “Joe Biden is the divider-in-chief and epitomizes the current state of the Democrat Party: one of divisiveness, disgust and hostility towards half the country.”

Um, okay.

Biden will speak at 6:00 pm (MST) tonight from the Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia. It probably won’t be hard to find a live stream wherever you watch television.

    1. You know what’s funny?  Trump lost to the guy that is lucky to get to the podium and the GOP still can’t get enough of Trump. And they say Fox News doesn’t brainwash people.

    2. Notice the little nobody had no rebuttal to being called an UnAmerican Fascist.  Just weeny insults about Biden's physical appearance.  Talk about scrapping the bottom of the barrel for civil discourse.  And you know Mr. Nobody firmly believes that his vote will only count if his candidate wins.  What an UnAmerican asshole.

  1. Sez the guy whose fearless leader can barely walk down a gentle ramp or hold a small glass of water without breaking ten espionage laws in the process!

  2. Bring on the F word, President Biden. Fascism. Republicans are lurching toward fascism, while Democrats oppose fascism and wish to preserve our democracy and the rule of law.

      1. True, Republicans aren't fascists, they're just part of an authoritarian and nationalistic right-wing system of government and social organization.

      2. Biden's "semi-fascism" is pretty accurate, though. Fascism Lite, where rather than doing away with elections you just manipulate them to your liking. Most recent example: Michigan's Canvassing Board rejecting initiatives based on things not in their jurisdiction, i.e. petition presentation and ballot language. (A canvassing board is pretty much a math sheet cerification entity; the work of validating petitions is done by someone else.)

This is increasingly common. Arizona's voting rights initiative was bumped despite massive signature gathering after the Republican controlled board double and maybe triple counted invalidated signatures. A couple of boards this year refused to certify elections for vague "fraud" allegations. January 6th had fake elector slates designed to initiate challenges to the EC certification. Where Democrats are elected, Republican legislators are preemptively rewriting their official duties to take away their power. And Republicans are challenging the right of states to hold as authoritative the popular vote for President (EC).

If that's not semi-fascist, I'm not sure what qualifies.

        1. The people who cast the votes don't decide an election, the people who count the votes do.

                                                                                               Joseph Stalin

          1. This struggle is no longer just over who gets to vote… its about who gets to count the votes, whether they should count at all.

                                                                     Joseph Biden

      3. Really? Dear old moldy you're either in denial or woefully ignorant.

Last month's CPAC conference was headlined by none other than Viktor Orban the fascist dictator of Hungary. Good ole Viktor was given a standing ovation by all those republicans in attendance, so republicans kind of love those fascist talking points Viktor was spewing.

        1. Hey Colorado Propaganda, when are you going to “circle back” and check in with Melissa to she how she is prospering with the massive increase in minimum wage? Is she having trouble making ends meet with 8.5% inflation? Has she saved up enough to be ready for the ban of nautral gas? Is she like Duke Cox and able to avoid the inflation tax? Which electric car is her choice? Has she applied for one of the 85 thousand IRS jobs? Can she afford the $10,000 deductable of the Aforadable Care Act? How did she spend the $750 Tabor tax refund?

You exploited this woman for profit, now PolCats want to know the rresults. It’s not complicated.

          1. Powerful Pear:  the mythical Melissa of your meandering mind [she’s a bit different than this article on Biden’s speech] will continue to be better off than what would be happening under in Republican Regime, whether national or state.

             * Colorado’s mandated increase in minimum wage was a bit over 2%, based on prior year conditions [“adjusted annually for cost of living increases, as measured by the Consumer Price Index used for Colorado.”]. So she, like everyone else, isn’t keeping pace with CPI — which continues to be a bit lower than the OECD statistic of world levels of inflation. Their most recent post said in all their nations, (CPI) rose to 10.3% in June 2022

             * the “ban on natural gas” is hypothetical — and since she probably can’t afford to buy, I’m not certain what impact it would have on her, anyway.  If you know the price of natural gas versus the price of solar power electricity in 10 years, why are you are here instead of out making investments based on that knowledge?

            * She probably won’t be buying an electric vehicle — but if she lives in Denver, she can get VERY close to the price of an electric cycle with the local credit.

            * the 85,000 IRS jobs are over the next 10 years, and many will be replacing existing staff.  If she did join the IRS, perhaps the next time I call I won’t have to be on hold for thirty minutes (about double the published overall average — and I persevered, unlike the 80% or more who abandoned their call before getting anyone to answer).

            * as a minimum wage worker, she nearly certainly qualifies for Medicaid, so doesn’t have anyplace close to a $10,000 deductible.  In the Republican Regime, she’d have nothing —

            * and she, like most other working poor, probably spent the $750 TABOR check to reduce debts.

Today’s news included an article announcing the death of Barbara Ehrenreich, the author of  “Nickel and Dimed.”  She likely would include Melissa as one of “the major philanthropists of our society.”

They neglect their own children so that the children of others will be cared for; they live in substandard housing so that other homes will be shiny and perfect; they endure privation so that inflation will be low and stock prices high,” she wrote. “To be a member of the working poor is to be an anonymous donor, a nameless benefactor, to everyone.

            1. John, are you now the official spokesperson for Colorado Pols?

Mythical Melissa? Are you saying the interview was fake, contirived, a lie, falshood, spin, joke, make believe…..what is it John, it’s not complicated.

              1. I've seen you referring to "Melissa" numerous times … but do not recall an original interview.  Got the link? I'll go look.

And I'm not an official spokesperson for anything beyond my property line. Last time I was "official" for any organization was 2014, if I remember correctly.

      4. Time to define terms.  Dictionaries have some common approaches:

a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

         * if "fascism" focuses on economic centralization of permissions and private enterprise reaping rewards for their obedience, the Republican party isn't quite there yet. They can't get organized enough to figure out a full range of permissions throughout the economy and as yet are stymied by some last gasps of anti-trust regulation. [I suspect a competent administrator without a full-on need for competition for his narcissistic approval would be able to overcome that — one reason I really DON'T like DeSantis.]

         * if "fascism" is focused on political ideology of dedication to a single leader, belief in National supremacy over individual freedoms, links to a nostalgic past, belief in betrayal of the "true" nature of the state, agreement with autocratic rule to enforced by legal, social and economic powers to end opposition, and a view of a inevitable glorious future for the Nation … LOTS of Republicans are well on their way.

  3. The real problem Republicans have here is that, for years they've been able to freely demonize Democrats, but they can't handle being properly or perhaps just a bit harshly called things in return. Republicans are the party who sucked in disaffected Southern whites by race-baiting. They're the party who dragged in evangelical revival tent con artists and followers — now masquerading as right-wing megachruch-goers. They spent tens of millions to develop AM hate radio and profited from the jerks they suckered in and brainwashed into believimg their swill. They absorbed the Koch-fueled Teabaggers who never saw a benefit to society that they liked — and dragging in any Ayn Randians they might have left behind. And then, after that, still bleeding voters, they called in the incels, the militant white supremacists, the ultra-nationalists, and the overthrow-the-government types.

What's left of the Republican Party I once registered with is a pathetic yet scary group of extremely radical, regressive activists who believe with all their heart that they are both "right" and "aggrieved"/"oppressed", and think that they deserve and are divinely purposed to hold the reins of power — who believe that failure to win elections is either (or both) a sign that their candidate isn't pure enough, or that the election was rigged.

There's no hint of beneficence left, only intolerance and spiteful actions. "Owning the libs" is a point of pride, marked by oppressing some poor soul on the streets. Voting against "blue" areas getting emergency catastrophic relief is commonplace, just because they have liberal governance. The party is finally devolved beyond redemption from its 60 year accumulation and promotion of ever more hateful fringe groups.

    1. What’s the term for something more delicate than a snowflake?  I feel like we’re going to need a new word tomorrow.

The “Fuck your feelings” crowd sure has a lot of feelings tonight!
