Background: Relative referred me to Nassim Nicholas Taleb ‘s “Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable” on the importance of rare, random events. Taleb says these events are unpredictable; I disagree-except for the timing. Ergo, while others ponder the top stories of the year about to pass, I offer, in no particular order, the Top Ten stories of the year about the begin, at least one of which seems wholly feasible:

54-1/2 more days ’til you’re a FRONT PAGE EDITOR. Then you won’t have to put up with it. Make the site what you want it to be.Mean people and talking animal movies with no point.
You say you don’t care – but I know better.
OTOH, I think it makes a difference…to this site … who is an “editor.” The FPE’s are able to, and do, give the site its flavor.
I have no idea what you’re talking about re “talking animal movies” — I’ve never posted a video; don’t really know how. As for “mean people,” well, I guess 2011 will be the Year of the Nice People. “Isn’t everything wonderful? Oh, yes, it is. Well, have a nice day. Hugs and kisses. Smoochy-smoochy. Toodeloo!” Stimulating isn’t exactly the word…
I posted an inane comment.
You replied, in part, “so what?”, from which I inferred you did not care.
it’s back…
Well done!
Sucka. (or you suck – I already forgot) And to think I wouldn’t have read it had you not commented in it. I owe a debt of gratitude, Jam Jam.
is predicting the “highly improbable”. Once you are able to formulate the idea that this thing or that thing might happen, then it really wasn’t that highly improbable after all. The real idea IMO is that world events are shaped by the many things no one really predicts, or if they do no one listens to them, such as what if a cataclysmic meteor struck…damn, not improbable anymore?
It’s the things no one is considering which will wake us up and shake us. No one seriously considered that a black man could be President of the US just a little over two years ago. And look how that has shaken things up.
Thanks.
It only took one of your awesome inane comments to send JO in apoplexy. Classic!
I do not recall if you were around back when, but this is not the first time, not JO-jo’s first rode event like this, so to speak.
