        She has said, quoting loosely here, that her law degree was simply a step in implementing the Kingdom of God. I never heard of a Catholic who was working for Armageddon, but there is much I don't understand.
        
        Simply put. She is a religious zealot. Another sad soul who couches her resentment and meanness in the trappings of Jesus Christ, with no real comprehension of his message.

        Sure, you’re counted by the Catholics on the official roles. That’s why you are an apostate rather than a heretic. Don’t you remember this from theology? Heretics are semi-forgivable for being wrong because they’ve never known the truth. Yeah, they need to “sit down and shut up” if they question anyone of the true faith, but they don’t need to die for it. They just need to know their place.

      Aunt Lydia is from the extremist Catholic tradition, the one that inspired the Handmaid's Tale. After the dystopian book came out, they DID change the term Handsmaid.
