Mike Castle, like Michael Bloomberg, ran as a Republican to avoid the more competitive Democrat primary.
The Americans for Democratic Action ranked Mike Castle the 1st most liberal Republican in 2009 (55; Dianna DeGette earned a perfect 100). Mike ranked as liberal or more liberal than the ten most Conservative Democrats.
The American Conservative Union ranked Mike Castle the 2nd most liberal Republican in 2009 (56; Dianna DeGette earned a perfect 0). Anh “Joseph” Cao of New Orleans beat him by 1%, with a 55. Mike’s lifetime average is 52.49.
Mike voted “for” Mike Kucinich’s impeachment proposal. He voted to refer to the Judiciary Committee, where it died. He could have voted to kill it outright.
Both sides call Mike a liberal incumbent in a year that is bad for liberal incumbents.
Conservatives say Republicans are too cozy with the Washington establishment. Mike can prove them wrong by quickly setting aside his animosity for party unity.
Or he can demonstrate that, like Bloomberg, he was a Republican of convenience.
