RGA says your story is false.

Since it’s brief I will post it in it’s entirety.

Tim Murtaugh, 202-662-4142

RGA Statement on Erroneous Reports in Colorado

Republican Governors Association spokesman Tim Murtaugh today issued the following statement in response to erroneous press reports involving the Colorado governor’s race:

“We are as committed today to our efforts in Colorado as we were a week, a month or two months ago.

“Our goal has been, and remains today, to ensure that Coloradans do not have to suffer through four more years of Bill Ritter’s failed policies of raising taxes and killing jobs – and that means defeating John Hickenlooper.  We will not waver from that goal.

“It is unfortunate, however, that the news media has chosen to whip itself into a frenzy and run with unsubstantiated rumors that are patently false.”

  1. … so basically we have reports of the RGA abandoning a candidate that the RGA denies.  The problem is that if RGA is abandoning a candidate, they’d never openly admit it.  I’m honestly not sure if this is true, but I don’t think we have to take the denial at face value.

  2. We’ve all been hearing about it all morning, long before FOX 31 reported it. The Republican operation is as leaky as BP’s well in the Gulf right now.

Just because the RGA is throwing in the towel doesn’t mean it won’t come back (if a better candidate can’t be substituted Politburo-style) or that they won’t put a little money in to help downticket GOTV, but they are no longer backing McInnis or actively opposing Hickenlooper.

The only way they can claim otherwise is if they re-up the TV ads they’ve been running for months and commit to running them through the election. Anything less constitutes a severe reduction of force.

    1. haven’t run since late May, so pointing out they’re not running on Thursday is hardly proof they’ve pulled their forces. Just sayin’ …

      1. I said if they didn’t go back on TV attacking John Hickenlooper and/or supporting Scott McInnis then they have effectively pulled out, even if they cut a few small checks to support party overhead or GOTV.

Of course they will not, but they will spend some small amount of money in order to be able to claim they didn’t “pull out” of this race. And I’m preemptively calling that bullshit, because if there were a viable candidate they’d spend millions of dollars between now and November, not thousands.

They pulled out, no matter how they spin it.

  3. regardless of what Fox 31 says about the RGA’s broken relationship with McInnis, it seems that the RGA would be invested in campaigning for the GOP gubernatorial candidate, especially if it’s somebody else.

Ellie, can’t help but notice your absence from all the plagiarism discussions. I don’t want to fight with you, but I do want to know this: as someone who’s been invested in the McInnis campaign, do you still support your candidate (not against Hickenlooper, just as a good potential governor) knowing that he (or even someone for whom he was directly responsible) made money through deliberate plagiarism?
