…and I found this gem on the interwebz…
and decided to do the same thing when he played on SNL in the 70s.

And then several years later he did the exact same thing except it was with the Beastie Boys. Totally badass.
Different versions of the reason, out there:

His music has left a lasting impression on me. There was just something special about that guy.
I had been on summer tour with the Dead up at Alpine Valley in July in ’90 and when the weather was bad, you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face because of the fog. I remember wondering how anyone could fly in or out of there and then a month later, he died in a crash there.
David Bowie’s Let’s Dance album.
but the first time I heard it on “modern love” I didn’t know at the time that it was SRV or who he was. Very very catchy and creative guitar though.
Think I am going to go look for Texas Flood now.
Good idea on SRV Ralphie
Good choice. Good choice.
I love that song, too, but listen to the changes in the bridge-
It’s the theme from Sanford and Son by Quincy Jones.
SRV’s has one extra note, yes ?
Pete Quaife, The Kinks’ co-founder and former bassist passed away today.

It’s gonna be a scorcher today. Stay cool, y’all.
Whiskey optional.
Good clip. I like the post-Big Brother instrumentation, especially the opening.
Reading up on Janis’ cover of the song, I learned that “Summertime” was the last song she sang in public before her death. That’s kind of chilling.
Here’s a song covered by both Guns N’ Roses and Soundgarden. Punk from a, believe it or not, R&B influenced musician, Lee Ving of FEAR:

Here’s the live version from the cult documentary The Decline of Western Civilization, just in case you need a double dose:

An obscure concert film with some great cameos….
Funny.
I just checked out Lee Ving’s IMDB entry. Looks like he’s got a long list of film and TV appearances, at this point.
I’m such a Moody Blues fan. Every Good Boy Deserves Favour is one of my alltime favorite albums.
