Republicans Choose Tampa for 2012 National Convention

Break out the suntan, GOP delegates. From The Associated Press:

Republicans choose Tampa as the site of their 2012 presidential convention, hoping the swing state of Florida will help them defeat President Barack Obama.

A Republican National Committee panel recommended the Gulf Coast city during a closed-door meeting, rejecting Salt Lake City and Phoenix. The decision came amid calls from Hispanic groups and others to boycott Arizona after it adopted a law to crack down on illegal immigrants.

  1. Sure Colorado went for Obama, but did Minnesota go for McCain?  (Don’t recall.)

It’s a long time between the convention and the polls.

      1. Minnesota is generally a light to med-blue state anyhow, aside from their Gov. It’s gone blue since Mondale got owned, I believe.

  2. We had pictures of mountains for the DNC.  Tampa will have shots of tar-soaked beaches filled with new environmentally conscious Southern protesters.  Good luck with that.

    1. To cook their hot dogs they will just have to throw a match into the ocean then hook the hot dog to a thin steel line on their fishing pole and cast it as far as they can.  When they reel it in it will be cooked.  It will be quite a big kumbaya moment with them to watch the sunset through the burning haze together.

  3. now going to call for a boycott of the GOP for not standing in solidarity with Arizona, the Show Me Your Papers State?  Or is it OK for Rs to kind of boycott Arizona, just not for Boulder or any other nest of lousy liberals?

  4. From the open process party, it’s time to make decisions in the open, no smoke-filled rooms.  Hope SLC and Phoenix see the wisdom in this process….

  5. Greedy

    Old

    Profiteers

would prefer some state with enough Crazies to keep the crowds friendly… Like Arizona Texas or Maine.

Tampa Florida will be an Oil soaked Wasteland they will try to tie to President Obama.

    1. I went to a wedding there a few years back and was impressed with the downtown area.  Very good seafood restaurants and a nice tapas joint.  The reonvated Vinoy hotel there is gorgeous.
