Norton Praises 9/12 Groups, Glenn Beck Faithful

  • by: Colorado Pols

This video was just released showing U.S. Senate candidate Jane Norton praising the Tea Party, 9/12 and Glenn Beck faithful. The video is supposedly from a Norton meeting with Morgan County Republicans on Nov. 2, which shows that Norton’s campaign was aware of the need to placate the Tea Party even before they were showing their anger towards her campaign. The video also shows that there apparently aren’t a lot of Morgan County Republicans, but we digress…

  1. That the Norton campaign is not aware that anything said anywhere shortly becomes general common knowledge. They appear to still be operating in the old – tell each group what they want to hear mode.

On the plus side, it is nice to see Norton is getting out there and talking to people. That’s a very important part of the job.

    1. It’s also why we questioned Andrew Romanoff’s initial hiring of Sue Casey as campaign manager/director/whatever before Casey left last month. It’s not that Casey or Norton’s campaign folks are inexperienced or bad at what they do, but elections in 2008 and 2010 are so completely different than they were even just a few years ago. There are things you could do or not do in 2002 that just don’t work in the same way in 2010 because of the Internet tubes.

      1. Norton cannot just say whatever she wants and think that it won’t get out — it will.

On the other side, Romanoff cannot just keep quiet because it is so early in the campaign cycle. Most voters may not be paying attention, but more and more people are watching, and those people are framing the campaign narrative now.

Seven years ago, nobody knew what candidates were or were not doing until late summer of the election year. Whether you said different things to different groups (like Norton) or didn’t say anything at all (like Romanoff), it really didn’t matter. Politics has changed along with the rest of the world in terms of the availability of information and the number of people looking for it.

      2. I’m not saying I agree with what she is saying, but her willingness to continue to speak when she knows there is a camera is great.  I can remember being at a Musgrave tour tour stop one day, and she was absolutely petrified to say anything to dutiful constituents that showed up to her meetings.  Where is the valor or honor in that?  Say what you mean and mean what you say, and forge ahead Jane.  You might not win, but at least you were out doing what needs to be done.  It makes Jane appear to be less “handled”.  Colorado voters like that.

              1. I sense frustration.  Is it possible you don’t know how to respond when you run across a mainstream Republican.  I don’t think I have ever tried to sell my self as someone that ISN’T a part of the mainstream Republican Party.  I’m all about being MAINSTREAM.  You don’t have to fear me because I’m not part of the radical right, nor is the majority of the Republican mainstream.  I may hate the sin, but I don’t hate the sinner Ralphie.  LOVE

          1. I missed my calling.  Received my high school’s sexiest legs award.  Had I only known……

But then…I would have had to be a Republican.   Never mind.

              1. I grew my hair just to get your endorsement in a Senate run against Penry.  Now I’ll have neither.  Guess I will just have to wear cutoffs the next couple of months.  Either that or get my sis to run.  She was voted sexiest legs two years in a row!

        1. It disturbs that views which Teadbaggers or Beck maintain have achieved mainstream Republican views.

Norton could win the race if the Deomocrats split.

  2. There really aren’t many Republicans in Morgan County. And I couldn’t hear half of what she said over the half dozen people that were there.

                1. Unlike TV where it’s the sound bite, on the web it’s content. And the validity of that content is judged by all the people contributing, linking, etc. It’s a much more intelligent discussion, a much more in depth discussion, and a much more democratic process.

It does favor us Democrats because we use the web better – and we tend to win more arguments when discussed on their merits.

But what really favors us is most Republican candidates tend to avoid the web, and when they do use it, they do so in a futile attempt to control the conversation on it. (You are an exception – which helps you in the election.)
