Huh?

(News flash: the robocalls aren’t going to stop – promoted by Colorado Pols)

Wednesday, Colorado registered Republican voters received robo-calls with John McCain’s voice asking them to call Senator Michael Bennet to tell him “not to cut Medicare benefits”. Senator Bennet’s ammendment to health insurance reform bill HR 3590 actually protects Medicare benefits and extends the Medicare Trust Fund’s solvency.  Bennet’s ammendment passed Thursday, 100-0. Voting “yes” for Bennet’s ammendment was… you guessed it… John McCain(R)- Arizona.

      1. as Michael Roberts reports on Westword’s blog: http://blogs.westword.com/late

Hi, I’m calling from Americans United for Change to set the record straight. You may have received a political call that tries to frighten seniors — a call that claims health insurance reform will cut Medicare benefits. That is just false.

In fact, AARP has said the health care bill doesn’t reduce any guaranteed Medicare benefits — none.

You know the AARP is looking out for seniors. And if they’re not convinced by these political scare tactics, you shouldn’t be either.

But here’s the thing, the government pays insurance companies $1.14 to do the same things for seniors that Medicare itself can do just as well for a dollar? Health care reform would end that waste — and use the money we’d save to help seniors pay for their prescription drugs and make other improvements to Medicare.

That’s why the insurance companies want to kill health care reform. Call Senator Bennet ask him to support health insurance reform and keep standing up for us.

  1. I got a robo-call from McCain and I have NEVER been registered as a Republican.  However, I am over 65 and on Medicare so I thought he was probably targeting seniors, not just Republicans.

  2. during the past two years than how truly clueless and ignorant McCain really is.  He doesn’t know much about anything and isn’t interested in learning.  Remember when he rushed to Washington as a presidential candidate to help save the economy and then didn’t know enough to open his mouth with one suggestion or intelligent question?   Take away the war record and he’s GW all over again, the only difference being that McCain made it to where he is because daddy and gramps were Admirals.

    1. he was way, way out in front of all R’s on climate change.  Was holding almost weekly hearings on it when he was chair of Commerce/Science/Transportation.  Was personally battling Inhofe over climate change on the Senate floor.  Granted that was back in his true Mavrik days, way before he got the 2008 nod.  At any rate, the McCain back then definitely was interested in learning, which was in sharp and stunning contrast to the occupant of the White House and a good majority of the R caucus in the Senate.

      1. Just because his heart was in the right place on something at one time doesn’t mean he really knew much about it. And he certainly seems to toe all the know nothing party lines now.

I just don’t think he’s much brighter than Bush or Palin, regardless of his positions.  He doesn’t seem to do any more serious studying now than he did when he was in school. Not smart.  Not intellectually curious.  Intellectually lazy, in fact.  And yet the base still doesn’t like him.  Go figure.

        1. I wasn’t talking about his heart, I was talking about his head.  He was very clearly engaged on climate change, engaged in a very far-seeing way, long before even most D’s were.  I was working for a D with a seat on Commerce at the time and I couldn’t even get my own boss to go the hearings.  Only reason McCain was doing anything about it was he had all these scientists telling him it was a problem, and he decided to listen and think about it.  I’m not a huge fan and like I said, I worked for a D, but McCain was very clearly a lot brighter than Bush or Palin, both of whom are obviously on par with Lennie from Of Mice And Men.  Climate change is only one example, there are more.  He was a good Senator before 2008 came along.

          1. seriously lost a step because he’s behaved like an ignorant fool for the past two years. That trip to DC that I mentioned was particularly goofy. And he clearly has no idea that the cuts contemplated for medicare have nothing to do with guaranteed benefits but are the same waste eliminating measures he used to endorse.  Or else he does know and is just desperate to get back some base support. He certainly seems confused about how to deal with Bennet.

I’ll grant he may well be more intelligent than Palin or GW.  That was an exaggeration but I still don’t think a huge exaggeration.  Maybe he just stopped being interested in anything  other than salvaging his standing as an important senator. He sure hasn’t said or done anything very smart or informed by accurate information lately.
