New Libertarian-GOP Group ‘Chainsaw Caucus’ Hosts Call With Islamophobic Speaker

(Very fine Libertarians — Promoted by Colorado Pols)

Originally posted at the Colorado Times Recorder

Leaders of the Colorado Republican and Libertarian parties held a joint public discussion on the Twitter Spaces platform last week. Billed as a “Special Session Recap,” the online event drew a few hundred listeners curious to hear the state chairs of both parties, multiple GOP legislators, and other conservative activists and influencers speak about Colorado politics and policy.

As those Colorado GOP legislators and the two party state chairs listened in silence, one such influencer, a woman who uses the online name “Missy Murdrem,” responded to a question about how to reach more people with the Libertarian message by sharing that she lives “in the hood” and has survived a home invasion at gunpoint. She called on someone to come in, “with civil rights or even by force,” because, in the community she has lived in for years, she is “surrounded by Muslims.”

Another influencer, gun advocate Alicia Garcia responded to Murdrem’s statement by offering to provide low-cost firearm training. Neither of the party leaders, nor the state Representatives who were still on the call, Ryan Gonzalez (R-Greeley), Chris Richardson (R-Elbert County), responded to the exchange.

Missy: “Well, I would like to say that I actually live in the fucking hood. And there is such thing as little tyranny. OK, so I’ve had people break into my door and put a gun to my fucking face with their finger on the trigger. OK, So there’s such thing as little tyranny, not just big tyranny We have a problem here, obviously, where things have gone off-balance when it comes to Lady Liberty. She is no longer blind. She is no longer blind, she is obviously very biased. And I’m really sick and tired of this shit. So if someone has to come in… And by civil rights and maybe even by force right now, which I hate to even fucking say that because I’m not about that. But Jesus Christ, I’m surrounded by Muslims in my community right now that I’ve lived in for so long.”

Alicia Garcia: “Missy, you know that I am here and this goes to everybody here. This is what I do for a living, okay? This is my entire livelihood. I do this seven days a week, no days off. I teach firearm safety. I teach de-escalation. I certify for concealed carry. I am one of the three women in America who’s able to teach a defensive pistol qualification. I can do this. And you matter to me, and all of you guys matter. So I want you to understand that this resource is here for you. If you can’t afford the training, if you can afford the class, reach out to me because my job is to make sure that we’re protecting our community.”

The entity hosting this discussion is a new “527” political action committee created by state Libertarian Party of Colorado (LPCO) leaders. They named it the “Chainsaw Caucus,” presumably named for far-right Argentinian president Javier Milei’s obsession with wielding chainsaws in public as a symbol for cutting government.

For anyone wondering why the Colorado GOP Chair and five Republican legislators would join a 2.5 hour public discussion hosted by PAC founded by another party, the logical assumption is that, the group, which launched last year, is an extension of the Liberty Pledge partnership between the LPCO and GOP. The 2023 agreement stipulates that Libertarians won’t run spoiler candidates against Republicans who agree to advocate for a list of policy positions.

Congressman Gabe Evans (R-CO) and state Reps. Gonzalez and Rebecca Keltie (R-Colorado Springs) all signed versions of the pledge last year before each went on to win very close races — Keltie’s margin was just three votes. Evans subsequently hired the Libertarian Party’s Vice Chair Eliseo Gonzalez as a field representative in his district office.

On the call Libertarian Party Hannah Goodman said she is shifting her role from party chair to running Chainsaw Caucus full-time. Her plans include exposing various enemies, including Democratic legislators and progressive groups.

Neither Goodman nor GOP Chair Horn responded to email requests for comment as to the nature of their groups’ partnership and whether they had concerns about the featured speaker’s Islamophobic comments. This article will be updated with any response received.
