(Seriously? Shoe fetishes? – promoted by Danny the Red (hair))
Another barnburner from Former Lobbyist Jane Norton:
Republican Senate candidate Jane Norton revealed her latest health care prescription for Coloradans at a campaign stop in Cheyenne Wells Tuesday, touting the elimination of cancer screening coverage enacted during her tenure as Lieutenant Governor in the Owens-Norton administration. During the campaign event, Norton giddily boasted that as Lieutenant Governor she eliminated requirements for insurance companies to cover cancer screenings, such as cervical and prostate screenings, in health insurance plans. Norton then went on to compare cancer screenings to “shoe fetishes” and “caffeine addictions.” Please see the below bullets and the attached audio for Jane Norton’s latest prescription for fixing Colorado’s health care system.

Reality:
Norton’s Health Insurance Reform Allowed Insurance Companies to Drop Coverage for Mammograms, Prostate Cancer Screenings, Mental Illness, and Child Dental Care. The health insurance bills passed into law by the Owens-Norton administration relaxed state mandates for coverage of medical services by health insurance providers for small businesses. As reported by the Fort Collins Coloradan, “House Bill 1164, sent by the Legislature to Gov. Bill Owens for a signature Friday, would ease state regulations for the small group carriers that provide health coverage to companies with 50 or fewer employees. The bill would give people a choice of a stripped-down plan or one with more benefits…[The bill included] a provision that requires small carriers to offer consumers plans without so-called mandates, such as coverage for mental illness, hospice care, alcoholism treatment, hospitalization for dental procedures for minors and breast and prostate cancer screenings.” [Fort Collins Coloradoan, 5/6/03]
So, as we see, you can deny your past, run for a new office, and never-ever-ever give a substantive interview to a single reporter, but the truth will find you, haunt you, and sink your crappy campaign.
